I just noticed that Christina hasn't debuted yet. Looks like a high debut for her next week. Really surprising that it didn't break in this week.

Wow I cannot believe Jack Johnson has never had a top 20 on billboard. I know he isn't that type of artist with wildly successful singles, but he has sold millions upon millions of albums and never charted that high before. That is sort of cool.

If I Had Eyes deserved to be so much bigger. That owns You and Your Heart, although I do like the song.

With the decline in album sales and more people buying digital singles, I think in a few years we will see Diamond certified singles. Digital sales are starting to decline too I don't think that digital sales are declining, they are just growing at much slower pace, at least that's what was happening until dec. 2009

I don't think the digital market will collapse by any means, but I do think it has pretty much leveled off.

I skimmed over the article quickly, but didn't they say the decline was attributed to the difference in calender years from '09 to '10? So the 1Q of 2009 had 13 weeks and the 1Q of 2010 had 12 weeks which is why there was a small decrease...or somethin' along those lines.

I believe they said if you adjusted for calendar year difference, the decline moved closer to zero, but was still a slight decline.
This does appear to be relevant to the implementation of variable pricing.
But, a few percentage points loss in total sales on an up-to-30% price increase is still a notable increase for the labels (I realize not every single moved to $1.29, but it seems most current singles are at that price now). If you looked at total revenue, I'm betting digital sales would still be trending upward.

Christina is the first hyped return this year, and her sales have yet to be counted, and they're not even looking too promising. I think its just that there isn't much good music out lately.

^Thank you for posting :) And yay for Usher, J-DeRu, and La Roux! And it's nice to see Kelly debuting with a fourth song from the album. What prompted "In My Head" to be the digital gainer? american idol performance

Is it me, or does "In My Head" sound "Just Dance"-ish? Maybe that has been discussed and posted, but I'm not that into DeRulo, so just an observation. :)
Aguilera's dated track may not have been the best lead single. But, she's a youngin' (relatively), so maybe a second track can fare better (a la the Stripped album).

I can't believe Carry out spent so many weeks at 12-13 and still couldn't sneak in the top 110 for a week.

Aguilera's dated track may not have been the best lead single. But, she's a youngin' (relatively), so maybe a second track can fare better (a la the Stripped album). NMT has good airplay so far. Time is what the track needs. Eventually it'll do well.

Aguilera's only getting decent play at Pop radio, though, no? The track likely won't do much at AC or Hot AC, and rhythmic will be limited. So, its overall airplay potential isn't BIG.

It Billboard did a list of top singles from 2000-2009, that peaked in those years but racked up weeks into 2010, "I Gotta Feeling" looks like it may be #1. Will it reach a 45th week? I sure hope so. What an amazing run!

All B.O.B needs is 25k or so copies to beat Rihanna? No? That's fairly easy.
