So basically I didn't want to post in the D.N.A. thread anymore since that era is officially over. Mario him self said the album will be out this year and expect a single this summer. So far on this album he's working with producer Eric Hudson( Trey Songz, Leona Lewis, Mary J. Blige). Mario has said the album is going to more progressive/dance uptempo joints sorta in the vein of "Break Up". And he might work with R. Kelly on this album! Here's some tweets from Mario and other's about the albumMeeting with the label today... I don't like him trying to be all hard. He does the slow songs better. His best album was his biggest flop. Anyway he could have maybe taken the Chris Brown vacancy if he was better looking but Trey got that.

^^ I really don't think he's going "hard" next album I think he's just doing more up beat r&b. Really slow tempo songs are not the deal these days anyway "let me love you" came out back in 2004 it is now 2010 music has changed since then. And as far as looks go I never thought him and Trey were that good lookin both are average lookin guys with great voices. I think Mario still can do some damage in the r&b world it ain't like Trey really took Chris Brown spot he hasn't hit the pop world at all and his album didn't even go platinum but Trey has made him self the r&b prince. Mario is two years younger than Trey also. Mario still trying to find his identity in the r&b world.

Huh? What do you mean slow songs are not in. Some of the biggest R&B songs of the year are slow songs. Sex Therapy, It Kills Me and Everything To Me

^^ Yes there are only a few of them compared to all these big uptempo songs including Jamie foxx blame it, Keri Hilson turnin me on and knock you down, trey songz invented sex and his biggest say ahh, Mario's Break up, Drake best i ever had etc. I think club songs took over more the past year and a half. Mario only hit off D.N.A. was "Break Up" go figure it was a club joint with a hot rapper of the moment on it. Every other song flopped released from it because people wanted to hear more of that type of sound. I like Mario slow songs also but he needs to do with whats in.

And also did not sell his album with that song either. It abandons his core audience that enjoyed his slow tempo and "Break Up" wasn't the song to open up his album even though it was hot. I want Mario to do another sound similar to his "Go" album.

^^ Agree "break up" didn't sell his album but it was a hit single for him. "D.N.A." was not an r&b album like "GO" was. I think with the last album Mario got away from real r&b and he needs to get back to it with the next album. I think that's what he's doing by working with Eric Hudson who did the only r&b joint on the album "stranded" and Cheft Tone who has work with Trey Songz he did "Brand New" for him and did the Plies, Jamie Foxx, "please excuse my hands" song. And he tweeted the fans about how we feel about him and R.Kelly writing together. I think it's the best thing he can do R.Kelly is a r&b king and a great writer.

How much did "Go" sale? and DNA? Also, Mario's on his 4th album so he knows what music is for him by now.

Slow jams are just as capable of being hits now. Period point blank. Break Up was a hit but the album still flopped and he had no hits after that. Throwaway garbage.

How much did "Go" sale? and DNA? Also, Mario's on his 4th album so he knows what music is for him by now. Well the last time I checked "GO" sales were in between 350,000 to 380,000. I don't know how much it has rise since then. And the last time I seen "D.N.A." sales they were in the 90,000 to 95,000 range don't know what it is now. So yes both albums flopped with "GO" doing better overall in sales. J records have really screwed him his last two albums with all the push backs, leaks, and low promo. Him and his management need to really take charge next album if he wants to have a chance of making it. I really want him to get off J records though bad record label for him considering they only care about their female singers on the label. And as I said before he also needs to get back to basic r&b on this album because D.N.A. was all over the place he tried to do too much plus every song that was on their leaked.

I think he should stick with the mid-tempos and slow jams with some uptempos mixed in. I do not think he will be accepted if he were singing songs like Trey Songz and Break Up, which as mentioned, sold singles but did not sell the album. He received more mileage from the 2 slow jams from Go! D.N.A., while a good album, is too all over the place stylistically.

By some tweets Looks like Mario has officially started on the album in full swing. I see he's working with Rico Love again. Who recently just had some bangers on Usher album and did Diddy's "hello good morning". I hope mario can get a single out this summer.

He needs to do an r&b album, with ballads and midtempos, with a little pop twist added to it. It should be something fresh. I also think he should work with someone out the box. He's one of the more talented male r&b artist out there. Infact he is probably the best vocally out of the newer crop of male artists.

Mario Punches Sound Engineer at Rochester MusicFestPosted Jul 26th 2010 10:30AM by Georgette Cline Usually rappers tend to be the hotheaded artists, making headlines for throwing 'bows without hesitation. Yet it was R&B singer Mario who followed in the footsteps of his hip-hop peers this weekend when he assaulted a sound engineer during a concert in upstate New York. On Saturday (July 24), Mario, born Mario Barrett, attended the 16th Annual Rochester MusicFest 2010-a five-night, multi-venue format spanning multiple genres, including Gospel, Motown and Urban Contemporary. The 23-year-old Baltimore native hit the stage for fans, along with singers Anthony Hamilton and Jaheim. According to a source at Rochester's 103.9 WDKX radio station, Mario, who released his fourth album, 'D.N.A.' last year, performed longer than the time allotted, causing a sound engineer at the venue to cut the power and turn on the lights during his set. An irate Mario reportedly punched the engineer, causing him to come close to falling off of the stage. No statement from Mario or his camp regarding the incident has been released at this time.

R&B singer Mario charged with assaulting mother– 2 hrs 9 mins ago BALTIMORE – R&B singer and former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Mario has been charged with assaulting his mother at their Baltimore home. Officers were called to an apartment building in the Fells Point neighborhood early Friday, where police say Shawntia Hardaway told officers her 24-year-old son, Mario Barrett, had pushed her. According to charging documents, Hardaway said her head still hurt after Barrett pushed her into in a wall in a separate instance on Monday and she feared for her life. Officers found broken glass and a hole in a door in their apartment. Barrett's attorney, William "Hassan" Murphy III, calls it "an unfortunate incident" between a loving son and a mother who has had drug problems. Barrett, who appeared in an MTV special in which he staged an intervention for his mother, was charged with second-degree assault and released on $50,000 bond.

It seems like he is going through a lot. I still cannot comprehend why his last 2 CDs have not taken off like they should have. Overall, his career is frustrating. He has the talent, the right mix of songs. I guess it is his timing or underdog status that holds him back. Sad!

This dude been through a lot this year dating his ex manager girlfriend, accused of hitting a sound engineer at a concert, and then the stuff with his momma a straight mess. But he is still managing to make some hot music anyone heard his new leaks "Number One", "Cheat Sheets", "Love Drunk", and "Mark My Territory". These are all hot rnb songs it seems Mario is going back to rnb. I have much respect for this dude I think his mix-tape is going to be good I have a feeling he's focused again. And I think he dropped that loser attention seeking girlfriend of his no more pictures of them the last couple of months. And he's been updating his twitter and facebook a lot more now. He's going in the right direction and at least he's not played out like a lot of these rnb singers. People still want more from Mario.

V Exclusive: Mario Opens Up About His Arrest, Love Life, Music & Label Riff December 3, 2010 Don't judge an R&B singer by his songs, sometimes life becomes more about the blues than rhythm. In early October, blogs lit up with posts stating that Mario had been arrested in Baltimore for physically assaulting his mother, a recovering crack addict, during a heated argument. A month later the 24-year-old singer's mother retracted her statement, leaving Mario a free man. But is life back to normal? VIBE caught up with the still-charming artist to see where his head, heart and music is at. VIBE: From an outside perspective it seems as if the second half of 2010 has been pretty stressful for you and you've been pretty incognito these last months. Where's your head been at?Mario: I'm a real person and I've always kept my personal life sheltered from the blogs. My head, personally outside of music, is [focused on] getting to a place where I can continue to grow as the best man possible. Because one day—fuck the music, fuck the blogs— I'm going to be a father and I don’t want the things that I go through in this industry to effect my family. Definitely. What's your relationship like with your mother now? Not to go into exactly what happened that night, because to others [my life] is a little game to play because they think they know. At the end of the day whatever goes on at home stays at home. I'm just glad to be vindicated. I care about my mother’s health more than anything and her getting back on my feet. It really doesn’t matter what happened to me. And she'll tell you herself that I've always been there for her and will continue to be there for her. How did you react when reading blog posts that adamantly stating you beat your mother? I mean… I’m a pretty strong person and I've been that way all my life. I feel like some people are immature and can't even imagine a family setting like when I grew up. And then there’s some people that are like 'Yo I support him.' But I don’t want a pity party, I can deal with issues on my own. People like to bring people down, it makes people feel powerful. I’m a real man, I’m not a coward. I can sit and listen to a woman argue and curse and still be like 'Baby can we sit down and talk about this?' That’s a real man. A real man’s supposed to be a leader. Point blank period. I think what made people more skeptical was at first reading news that you put your hands on your mother then later reading that she retracted that statement. What's the truth?I'm not going to get into details out of respect for myself and my mother but I'll tell you this, if I had put my hands on my mother the way the press said I did and the way she initially did… I would be in jail. Come on, if you put your hands on a woman in this country you're going to suffer consequences in some type of way. The case was thrown out of court… I was in there for 5 minutes and they dismissed everything. So for the record, you did not touch your mother in any way? Absolutely not. How is your mother doing right now, is she in rehab? Right now she’s dealing with demons and angels and I'm right here by her side. But I have to focus on my career in order to help her. I've been distracted for a long time, so it's time for me to get back on my grizzy. Definitely. After the charges came to light, you kinda backed away from the spotlight. Were you in a funk? I wasn’t the happiest camper, but I don’t have time to let the devil consume my mind. I'm Muslim… I read the Qu'ran everyday and it brings peace to my heart and mind. That alone leaves me peaceful. Being with different girls, that shit doesn’t work, it used to but it doesn’t work anymore. Is being a one-woman-man working out better for you? [Laughs], you know what I really haven’t been focused on women in general. But really I had to do some soul searching. A dude like me is very passionate and loving so I expect that in return. I’m not ruthless out here like other guys in this industry. I gotta be careful with the woman I lay my head with. Are you laying your head down with anyone now? I am dating somebody, but it’s no pressure. I'm happy and I'm focusing on music. Well it seems like you must really like this girl if we caught you on the blogs wearing matching outfits [laughs]. Is that what Mario does when he’s feeling a girl? There you go. That was a fun day [laughs]. She looked beautiful and I felt good too so it is what it is. So the happiness hasn’t ended with Dez?[Laughs] Next question! I’ll say this, we were friends before anything and that’s my homie right there. And you know, anything else is between me and her. Gotcha. What helped you refocus on music? When you go through things like that, strength comes in. When you have to be stronger than people think you are, you just have to do it. I know theres something bigger for me out there and for my mom. I have a job to do… a very important job. And I love music. At the end of the day it all goes back to that. One of the most frustrating things is that when I make the music I wanna make it doesn’t always get out to my fans because there’s something called a record label that tries to change directions. What direction are you trying to go with on this 5th album?I wanna give as much honesty as I can. I want to be honest, but grab the attention of everybody, but still compete so when you hear it on the radio it’s pushing the envelope. The melodies coming out of me now are unorthodox— melodies I've never expressed before. Hopefully when I finally play it for my label, J Records, who’ve I always had a battle with… what they wanted, what I wanted… how they see me, how I see me... [they like it.] How does your label see you?More than anything it's been a battle because I've been with them since 15. So now being a grown man and having experiences that people don’t even know about and wanting to share them… to them it’s a risk and they just want me to just stay strictly R&B. But I want to make records that people can relate to. If I feel like the world is going to end tomorrow, I want to write about that. And I feel like I have the talent for it. Like you cant tell Marvin Gaye to not write "What’s going on" so if you tell me I'm one of the greatest singers of my generation, than why won't you let me emote and tell my story? My story isn’t about some young pop star who came through at 15 and made it. Nah. I got struggles. I went through things just like another young man in the streets. And of course I have my experiences with women, that’s not going anywhere, but that’s the easy part as far as writing goes. It’s about finding that happy music between organic real music and mainstream music. Definitely, how deep are you with this album?I'm just getting into the crevices of that thing right there. You know it’s the 5th album so I'm on pins and needles. I haven’t been fully focused on it just yet, but I've got five tracks that are definitely going on. And they’re like movies, they’re intense. Do you think you'll write a song centered on your mother?I think with the direction I’m going in there will be a track that lends itself to that. What about this mixtape coming out first... what can we expect from that?Well, I’ve been working on it for three months now, it’s all original music. I’ve always been a fan of giving away original shit. Its straight R&B music. The album is definitely deeper, but this mixtape is for the people that are like 'We don’t wanna hear no pop records from you Mario, you’re one of the greatest singers of our generation, we wanna hear you sing ***I'M RACIST***.' That should be dropping around December 26. Even with all the ups and downs this year has been really motivating and I feel ready. It's time for another run.
