380 the first week is huge. The bad thing is after a few days his singles normally go down like a rock.

Wow... After all these years, the issue between Billboard and Celine/R.Kelly's "I'm Your Angel" is alive!

Eminem's commercial power is undeniable. Even when digital sales look like they're stagnating, his track sells a whopping amount out of nowhere. And this is a clear-cut chart debut, correct? The rack didn't appear on Bubbling Under or anything last week, from what I recall.

I think Eminem has established more than just immense name recognition..........he has branded his career on his exceptional communicative skills with his audience, both in and beyond his music.........and that has made him a viable-than-ever face in a format permeating heavily with also-rans. I don't think "Crack A Bottle" deserved to go #1 as it was just a puerile, second-rate effort to me, but I'm glad this single did. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

I'm curious to see how well 3OH!3's latest has sold in its initial week.
I have a hunch it will JUST make the Top Ten in its debut week.

^Surely you know what that's about, 2m. ;) "I'm Your Angel" did appear on its first Hot 100 chart at #1, but Billboard does not regard it as a Hot 100 debut, as it showed its "last week" position from the test chart in the "last week' column. Which still is somewhat odd, as it cannot disregard positions for all tracks that did appear on the printed Hot 100 the prior week. Nonetheless, debuted at #1, peaked at #1- all the same, in the end.
RE Eminem- his track didn't have any airplay exposure before its release, and it sold almost 100K more in its first week. It probably won't sell as much in the long run, though., unless airplay fares decently.
And, those two "Idol" singles entered at #1 in the digital era. They just didn't do it on the strength of digital sales, but rather physical sales.

I guess Eclipse will be their 2nd-highest charter thus far then.

Some time ago, I posted the explanation to this It did not debut at #1. It's official move was from #46 to 1 You can only debut at #1 in your debut week. Do you consider "Wide Open Spaces" by the Dixie Chicks to have been a top 40 Hot 100 hit? It was listed at #41 the week of December 5, 1998, the highest position it appeared at on the (published) Hot 100. However, the "previous weeks" columns showed that the song had been in the top 40 the two prior weeks on the test chart. So is it then an official top 40 hit with a peak position of #41? Did Kelly Clarkson's 52-1 move with "A Moment Like This" break the previous number one leap record held by the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" or did "I'm Your Angel" officially hold the record? I remember reading both when Clarkson set that benchmark. That December 5, 1998 chart will always be an odd asterisk in chart history books.

Only the second song to do so in the digital era after Britney Spears' "3." Which is amazing because I thought early last decade that both Em and Britney would be totally irrelevant novelty acts by now.

It won't even be an asterisk It is not a #1 debut - because it didn't hit #1 in its debut week. I can't seem to find it at the moment but I think there was a "Chart Beat Chat" question about it basically saying what I just said. It did not debut at #1 because it had charted the week prior in the test chart. And if you look closely, Hot 100 chart run is significantly shorter than the the "total weeks" chart run. This isn't a case here of "2m says...." obviously Billboard has ruled it this way too

"I'm Your Angel" debuted at #1. #46 was on the "test" Hot 100 chart. Not sure why Billboard.com ignored it. The December 5th, 1998 issue of Billboard gave a pretty thorough explanation. December 5th, 1998 had to be "I'm Your Angel"s debut week since it had not been available as a commercial single until that week. As for "Not Afraid" it will probably go down in history as the song that interrupted "OMG" at #1. That song sold a vary respectable 213,000 copies and is exploding at radio.

Like I said, what difference does it make, if "I'm Your Angel" debuted or didn't debut at #1? That's where it peaked.
I understand why Billboard does not look at it as a #1 debut, But, as others have pointed out, it's odd to look at one single one way (IYA) and another single another way (such as a track that appeared in the top 40 on the test chart prior to the 12/5/98 chart). Maybe because IYA appeared in its peak position on the 12/5 chart, whereas something like "Wide Open Spaces" did not? Who knows.

Chart runs included the test charts though

So, Billboard regards "Wide Open Spaces" as peaking inside the top 40? Maybe it does; of course, the Record Research books only looks at published charts in regards todebu dates, peaks, etc.
