But another thing is when you aren't that big of an artist to begin with it is really difficult to branch off and stray to far away. She has some supporters. However, she needs hits to really solidify a solid selling album. It'll be that much more difficult going independent. I get her wanting to do her own thing. But sometimes you gotta build up a fanbase before you try something out of the box. Her personality is very lowkeye. She just needs material and or something that'll make a statement, not that her music isn't good though.

I also always kind of felt like out of all or most rnb singers that were in a similar genre to hers, Ameriie had one of the weakest voices. I don't know if that's the sole factor for her position in the industry atm, but it might be one of them.

Oh please. There's plenty of R&B females with mediocre voices that are smashing. Kelly comes to mind. However I prefer Amerie's "mediocre" voice to what's out there.

But Kelly still has a more powerful tone than Ameriie, and can actually hold big notes with vibrato, which I don't really think Ameriie can.
I'm not saying Ameriie's voice is horrible or that all other r&b females are like Mariah in comparison, but I feel like Ameriie's voice can't do things that seem to be almost standard among most r&b female artists.
Edit//I actually think Ameriie's tone/voice is really beautiful and distinct. I just feel like she could benefit from some more vocal training..

Kelly has a good voice. Amerie does have a distinctive sound and tone. You know it's her. Her voice just isn't very full.

It just means she has less people who will throw a hissy fit and turn against her the second she does something seemingly different (whether that difference is huge, minor, or completely imagined). At this point I think the supporters Amerie does have left are the ones more inclined to roll with her no matter what she does. People who would be turned off by that probably stopped checking for her a while ago. You seem to be stuck on her getting hits and "solid" album sales. Part of my point was that getting big hits/album sales is something that simply doesn't seem to be in the cards for her no matter what she does. Let's not forget she was not a big seller anyway. I just don't think she had much to worry about losing. If she left Def Jam of her own accord that's fine but likely she would have gotten dropped anyway, which is why I say she is better off going indie; continuing to sign to major labels and still selling poorly each time would ultimately be more damaging to her name than striking out on her own would. People tend to look down on "nine lives" artists who keep getting presumably big chances and flopping every time (even if the artist is talented, pretty, makes good music, etc.) but if they're indie then they get a bit of pass for selling smaller numbers, since it's understood that the music may not be mainstream and the promotion will likely be on a shoestring budget compared to that of a major label artist.

Kelly is in a completely different league than Amerie let's not even go there Anyway I don't think her voice is horrible but she is "shouty" and she has a very raspy voice & tone. I don't think she's a bad singer at all she just sounds very different from most singers in the genre. She has a very distinct unique sounding singing voice (kinda like Rihanna except Amerie can actually stay on key and hit the notes properly). Amerie just needs more vocal training. She needs better technique.

I'm not focused on album sales/singles. However no matter if your a major seller or not you want for you album to do decent/good numbers. On a major label i think atleast another gold album was in reach for her perhaps if everything were to align itself properly. Also, going to far left sometimes can even alienate some of your core base. Going indie has it's advantages and disadvantages. Alot of artists do alot worse in certain aspects when they go that route. However her last album was really good. Her label just didn't promote it correctly. All she needs is a huge hit that sets her apart from all the rest.

I'm tired of seeing a few people acting like they know what they are talking about when they don't know Amerie and her music AT ALL. Just stop.

Ameriie Explains ‘Bixie’ HaircutAmeriie debuted a striking new look over Grammy weekend. The “1 Thing” singer traded her long locks for a “bixie” haircut while attending Drake’s Grammy after-party with her sister Angela at Greystone Manor Supperclub in West Hollywood. She explained her new ‘do, styled by Addie Markowitz. “I just wanted to go short and my personality loves extremes, so I went uber short,” she told Rap-Up.com. “I call it a ‘bixie’ because it’s a cross between a bowl cut and a pixie cut.” What do you think of Ameriie’s new hairstyle? Let us know!

Welp. She's done. I dont know why R&B females think they have a chance in hell at doing anything as a independent artist.

I don't care who she's affiliated with as long as she's giving me quality music, and this is exactly what I expect and need from her. Absolutely love the production, and the vocals and melodies have grown on me, I'm excited for this mixtape!

The song is a snooze fest but she does no wrong in my eyes and can't wait until the mixtape. "Why R U" has to be one of the best r&b songs since 05.

I shouldn't have listened to the new song. Now I'm not mad at her anymore for taking so long with her next album, even though it's nothing new-sounding from her.
