I'm going to go into fanwar mode for a few minutes here:
There's a specific person on my facebook who constantly questions (bashes) GaGa and does use the phrase "rip-off" with her. Yet last week I saw him positively comment on the upcoming Sara Bareilles video that is "inspired by" Grease and some other show. And he's a HUGE Tori Amos fan and as I just read on wikipedia, her new album contains songs that are variations of specific classical songs. Is that not hypocritical or am I missing something?

And he's a HUGE Tori Amos fan and as I just read on wikipedia, her new album contains songs that are variations of specific classical songs. Is that not hypocritical or am I missing something? There's a guy I know who is just like that too. He's a huge Madonna fan. He never has anything nice to say about Lady Gaga because he feels she's a fake and that what she does on stage is all an act. He thinks she pretends to care about the GLBTQ community because they were the segment identified who would 'lap up her shtick with a spoon.' He thinks that if she hadn't been doing the dance music, the outrageous costumes and videos, she would be a Tori Amo knock off piano lounge act performing for loose change. I bring up that she writes her music and does all this stuff related to her songs, but he thinks that the other people involved let her have the credit because she apparently cannot any of that stuff and feel bad for her. WTH? (And who in their right mind would really let that happen? I know there are certain artists who do stuff to get writing credits and stuff but he thinks that a certain artist who is routinely linked to such practices is being smart and savvy and not malicious because she is too 'talented' and 'important' to write her own songs and deserves to get credits whenever possible because she has a right to be entitled to them). And whenever Gaga does something that someone else had done before, whether it be her performing in drag a la Annie Lennox's "Sweet Dreams" performance or coming out with songs that sound like something others have done before ("Express Yourself"-gate part 541141), he feels that she is unoriginal and has to copy other things to make herself relevant. But if someone else like Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, or any other artist does the exact same thing, he thinks it's okay because they didn't build their entire act around copying from Madonna's 'textbook on international Pop domination' (he used this exact phrase at another board I post at). I will then point out that people recycle and many of these people did not trademark or invent some of these things. But he thinks that Gaga is a 'special case' and she does these things on purpose and goes to great lengths to do what she does, hoping that people will not remember or figure out that what she does isn't original at all. I can understand that people have their opinions about certain things and I will respect that, but I have a huge problem with it when they aren't consistent about it.

It always amuses me when certain artists are "inspired" by other people and sounds, but other artists are "blatantly copying and ripping off"-it is all the same shit to me. Either everyone is just "inspired" or everyone is "blatantly copying."

i think Gaga has copied Madonna a few times, especially with BTW. You can't easily brush that one off. That being said, i don't mind when she does things like that, cuz it only cements Madonna's status even more, and it brings her back to the spotlight. It's been said many times...Lady Gaga is the best thing to ever happen to Madonna.

And he's a HUGE Tori Amos fan and as I just read on wikipedia, her new album contains songs that are variations of specific classical songs. Is that not hypocritical or am I missing something? It's definitely hypocritical. I have never seen Gaga blatantly copy anyone and those who she is inspired by she has cited numerous times. She gets the most flack because she is such a polarizing figure. I always laugh when one claims that Gaga has copied Madonna when she herself has taken from the past and made whatever into her own. I find a lot of the comparisons extremely lazy and most usually consist of a middle man ie- Madonna/Roisin Murphy et cetera. Meh. I would just like for those who are so quick to point the finger at Gaga for copying so and such person to actually do their homework. I just am not here for lazy ridiculous comparisons. I was glad that Annie Lennox recently spoke out about the Gaga copying her 'Sweet Dreams' performance... Gaga makes incredible art. Sheβs exceptional. The parallel was obvious, but whether she was copying me or somebody else doesnβt make any difference. Women have been wearing menβs clothes for centuries. Itβs a powerful thing when a woman wears something less feminine. Itβs saying; you must look at me slightly differently, Iβm not just going to be a sexual object for you. ~ A.L.

Lady Gaga's Little Sister, Natali Germanotta Tells AllLady Gaga's nineteen-year-old sib, Natali, is determined to forge a legacy of her ownβas a fashion designer. by Amanda FitzSimons Look up Natali Germanotta on Gagapediaβyes, there is such a thingβand you won't find much. "Younger sister to Lady Gaga," it reads before listing bare-bones facts like age (nineteen) and occupation (fashion student at Parsons The New School for Design). In the end, the brief entryβfor context, the one on "prosthetic horns" is double in lengthβposes more questions than answers. After all, this is Lady Gaga, someone who is not only weirdly famous but famously weird, and the fact that she has a younger sister is almost too much. (Do they veg out on the couch together? Fight over who stole whose Kermit the Frog dress? Is one of them normal?) But if fans are hoping for Gaga II or the anti-Gaga, it's clear, within two seconds of meeting her, that Natali's not interested in playing the part of either. When she arrives at the Teen Vogue offices, her look is neither sensible-cousin-trapped-in-the-Addams-family nor over-the-top fashion freak: Her hair is in a slicked-back ponytail, makeup is minimal (save for dramatic liquid eyeliner), and her outfitβfloor-length black skirt, black blazer, black boots, Alexander Wang bagβis part of an everyday uniform she calls "witchypoo." She has class later that evening and is eager to talk about her course load. When the topic of her sister is brought up, she fields questions in such a matter-of-fact tone that you almost feel silly for asking. (On her sister's clothes: "Some of the stuff she wears I'd be like, 'No, never.' " On what she calls Gaga: "Stefi." On if they talk often: "I mean, not when she's in Japan and doesn't have service.") Still, Natali also has a freak flag she isn't afraid to fly, which becomes apparent days later, when she brings her pet lizard to the shoot and kisses it on the lips while the crew cringes. Unlike other younger sisters of pop divas (Jamie Lynn Spears, Ashlee Simpson), Natali, whose sole public appearances have been a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in last year's "Telephone" video and this year's CFDA Fashion Awards, seems keen on forging her own path. She says she was always interested in fashion (and proudly notes that she was considered by friends to be best-dressed in her grade), and by senior year she had designed her graduation gown, an avant-garde number that featured a graduation cap on the sleeve. At that point, she says she decided to forgo a liberal-arts experience in favor of fashion school because "for me, college is less about getting drunk and more about learning what you need for your career." Of course, Natali doesn't exactly need a diploma to gain access to the fashion industry. As this story was going to press, it was reported that the teen was in the running to design the costumes for off-Broadway show Simon Says. A tremendous credential for any young fashion student, but one wonders why she hasn't just asked her sister to pull some strings for her (at, say, Haus of Gaga, for starters)? "For now I'd like to stay in school," Natali says, adding that Gaga has occasionally called in favors, like the time she turned a stiletto Natali made for a school project into a shoe-shaped piano she played during a performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. "I was at my parents' house sobbing, like, 'Oh my God,'" she recalls of watching the episode. And she hasn't ruled out the possibility of working with her sister one day, though perhaps not in the capacity of stylist. "She changes 50 times a day," she says, exasperated. Natali, six years her sister's junior, grew up on Manhattan's Upper West Side and attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private all-girls school. "Ever since we were kids, my parents gave us the freedom to be ourselves," she says. Like Gaga, Natali excelled in performing and fine arts ("Music wasn't necessarily her thing, and art wasn't necessarily my thing," Natali says), though their narrative differs when it comes to social life. While Gaga has recounted stories of being dumped in garbage cans by classmates, Natali's memories are somewhat fonder. "I'll have those friends forever. My sister and I were in different grades with different girls." Life has changed since then: In 2008, when Natali was a sophomore, her sister released "Just Dance" and became so megafamous that even tripping on her heel in an airport made headlines. Natali says there were instances when it was impossible to keep a low profile, like when Gaga showed up at her high school graduationβheld at a church in the middle of the afternoonβin a flesh-colored unitard with rhinestone embellishments and a beekeeper-inspired headpiece replete with black netting. "The teachers were like, 'Oh my God, I can't handle this family,'" she recalls. The press slammed Gaga for upstaging her sister on her big day, but Natali says not only did she not mind, it was her idea: "She asked me, 'Should I dress really conservative and look not like myself, or should I do it over-the-top and freak everybody out?' And I was like, 'The latter, definitely the latter.'" If that sounds almost too generous, Natali admits that her support for her sister's outrΓ© wardrobe choices isn't 100 percent selfless: "Whenever I wear something crazy and my dad gives me a hard time, I say, 'Well, at least I'm not walking out on the street with red pasties,' and he'll be like, 'Good point.'" Poker Face: Natali on the banks of Central Park's Lake, a few blocks from the New York City apartment where she and her sister grew up. Natali wears a Moschino Cheap and Chic jacket. Jenny Kayne dress. Eddie Borgo earrings, $240. CC Skye chain ring, $125. Bad Romance: Natali at Convent of the Sacred Heart, the Upper East Side all-girls school from which she and her sister graduated. She wears a Rebecca Minkoff jacket. Mandy Coon dress. Eddie Borgo ring, $350. Blue Streak: Mugler jacket and shoes. The Eternal shirt. CJ by Cookie Johnson pants, $165. Michael Kors necklace. Gaga is lucky to have such a cool, level-headed younger sister at least from what I have seen so far.

Depending on what is on the DVD, we may or may not want this. If they are seriously going through with a repackage of this sort, they need to add some new songs or something. Otherwise such a thing is completely unnecessary.

A re-release is so cliche, but it's right on time for holiday sales...so who knows. It would be a smart move but idk...there's already a deluxe edition. She should just release a separate EP like she did with TFM but re-package it with the standard edition of BTW? shit's messy lol

But is it a full on re-release or just a special edition with a few extra tracks and a DVD that won't be promoted as a re-release? Just curious..

She wants to meet with President Obama to discuss bullying and to make it an illegal action (Source: Her Twitter). If she can pull that all off, and I don't doubt it fully (still, he's the President), it really shows how important and influential she is as a humanitarian, not just as a musician.

Obviously I'd rather new songs over a re-release but I can't imagine having new songs, even in an EP form, so soon no matter what the situation. I can't imagine what a CD/DVD would be though. It would feel off if it was the same Born This Way collection with an added DVD of random footage. I'd rather it be The Monster Ball but then what would the CD half of the CD/DVD be? The Monster Ball on CD? I'd love that too but I don't think the live performances seem suitable for a CD. Maybe acoustic-studio recordings of songs from her discography? That'd be my wish. Monster Ball for the DVD and studio-acoustic recordings of a few songs.

It could simply be BTW's music videos on the DVD.
I doubt there'll be new songs on the cd.

That'd be good too though it would seem premature to do that unless they don't plan on doing anymore videos from the album. I'm wondering if they have a set title for it yet. Perhaps "Born (CD/DVD)" is just tentative.

The idea of a re-release makes it obvious to me that they're looking to throw more radio singles on the album.

The idea of a re-release makes it obvious to me that they're looking to throw more radio singles on the album. If they're including more new songs which there hasn't been any indication of yet. Personally, I'd be okay with one or two new songs but then I wonder how it would be done. Would they put them on the CD with the original tracklisting and not include the three bonus tracks or would they perhaps include one or two of the bonus songs, the few new songs and maybe remove one or two of the original tracks to make room and keep the number of songs on the album 16-17.
