Digital sales in Japan fell 3% last year - the first time the second-largest music market in the world has reported a digital drop.
Number from RIAJ show that overall music downloads slid to 461.86m units.
The value, however, of the market remained flat at 90.6bn Yen (£692m).
The drop was down to a decline in the mobile music sector. Mobile downloads account for 90% of all digital sales in Japan and they fell 4% to 414.51m units.
While fixed-line download sales grew 9% to 47.26m units, this was not enough to offset the drop in the mobile music market.
