Is this part of that one-song-a-month project? I wish they would give that. It's annoying.

ugh. Billy and his money hungry self just using the smashing pumpkins brand name. The group has sucked since Darcy and Iha left.

I'm guessing this is the first song from that project to go for adds?

Yup...that's why all the songs are given away as free mp3 downloads, the physical releases will be limited for true fans who actually want them. He must be super money hungry... The man wants to make and release music.....and he owns the band name so hmmmm....maybe, just maybe it's okay for him to use the name he created and built.

James Iha, Darcy, and Chamberlin are just as much part of the band. I find it funny he tried one album under his name and when that flopped he goes back to calling it the smashing pumpkins. It's funny. He has one of the biggest egos of any singer.

While I don't disagree with you about flopping under his own name and reverting back to his Pumpkins umbrella, or about his ego, James and Darcy never really contributed much to the band in the first place. Billy was almost always responsible for their parts, written or recorded.

In interviews, it has been stated that the recording sessions were always Billy and Chamberlin jamming out. Sure, he might have an ego, but he has the chops to back it up. Maybe he's not in it for the money. Maybe he's in it because being a 40-something retiree can drive a person mad. Music is his vocation. Get over it. I'm sure he's made more than enough cash.

Well the solo-album flopped because on the day of release, Billy made an ad wanting to re-form the Pumpkins. It wasn't very commerical though and I don't think it had much potential in retrospect.
Butch Vig (who worked on the band's first 2 albums) said on an interview in '07 that 90% of it was Corgan, that there's little input from D'arcy and James.
Chamberlin said a year ago that it's Billy's right to continue on the Pumpkins moniker. btw, I kind of wish the box set would also include studio versions of some of the live songs from the '08 DVD.

I'm sorry but Billy Corgan with three other people who were not original members are not the smashing pumpkins to me. Ok, if two of the four are original members but if it's only 1 you should just call it what it is. A solo album.
James Iha was awesome the two times i saw him live with A Perfect Circle. I find it hard to believe Billy taught him everything he knows. Hey. If Billy can release great songs like he did when they had Iha and Darcy then i would be more inclined to believe it was all Billy. So far.....Nothing has matched what came out when they had Darcy and Iha. I have 3 Smashing Pumpkins Albums that I have purchased. I think Corgan is immensely talented. I would have loved to see them live. The couple opportunity the last few years I had to see them i passed because i just don't think it would be very good without James or Darcy. I mean maybe if he actually got other high quality musicians to fill out the band instead of hired guns.
That's great if Chamberlin thinks it's fine. But that's not really a surprise considering maybe when Smashing Pumpkins do tour people who don't have the older albums will buy the older albums and therefore he will get some royalties.

No one said Billy taught Iha anything, what is being said is that Billy was a control freak who dictated everything on the albums.

And to be quite frank, I liked Zeitgeist, more than I have Adore and Machina even. I think people were skeptical when Zeitgeist came out and were willing to remain skeptical and not give it a chance. Yes, some songs do flounder on the album, especially in the second half, but the first half are all rocking and memorable tunes. It's not as arty as other works, but honestly, my least favorite Pumpkins moments are when they've gone too arty so it suits me just fine.

I enjoyed Zeitgeist more than that album for sure.

For me, it's ironic they aren't making records anymore as I always envisioneed The Smashing Pumpkins as one of those not so common bands that captured the essence of an album very well. All of their albums have a great flowing and have a unique feeling to them.
About "Freak", I appreciate it a lot. One of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins of the last twelve years.

Eh, not even the best song of the individual songs. I mean, it's decent, but "A Song for a Son" totally murders this one. I wish there had been a release of a better song from the Teargarden songs.

I'm not sure I'll like anything they release in their modern era as much as "Tarantula".
