Yeah.,John Lennon did have success but not 10% of MJ's achievements. Only Elvis Presley is having such a huge impact after death. I wouldn't compare Elvis & MJ since they were in different eras, but the post death achievements of MJ is something no one can even imagine.,specially considering given negative publicity by the media when he died.,but suddenly they all turn around. I think that speaks the enormity of MJ the musician. Elvis Presley is uncomparable to anyother artist even today.,same goes with Michael Jackson too(there is no other performer like MJ) Though I think it's safe to say he is the greatest entertainer ever considering his multi talent singing, dancing and writing. In Lennon's case he is never a great singer like Elvis.,he never had the success he once had with the Beatles nor Mr. McCartney. As a solo artist and performers Elvis and MJ are in their own league. I think you're lookin at this the wrong way: You can't just leave out the the fact that Lennon was beside McCartney the heart and soul of the most successful and revolutionizing bands in history. It's impossible to compare the deaths of two very important artists. Many things changed during the course of time: internet, charts, record buyers, media etc. etc.

Where do you get 10%? You can't compare Michael Jackson to Elvis in terms of numbers for the same reason you can't compare Michael Jackson to John Lennon. You couldn't instantly download John Lennon's catalog in 1980 any more than you could download Elvis catalog in 1977 I get your point.,but the majority of MJ's albums were physical buys.,only large portion of singles were downloads. And what about the fact that the singles were available in stores then instead as downloads. The different I see today is people buy singles online rather than going to shop. So do you think the people who bought MJ singles wouldn't go to a store to buy his stuff if they weren't available digitally?? They will buy them any way regardless digital or physical as long as they wanted something to remember the icon. Don't forget it's not internet which make them buy it's the person(artist in this case MJ).

73 LAUPER*CYNDI MEMPHIS BLUES 5,796 -58 13,901 19,701 Not a bad second week percentage decrease. I'm rooting for this album. Cyndi will appearing on CBS' The Early Show on July 20th. For free tickets, visit CyndiLauper.com A couple of my female friends just saw her in concert. She really does nothing for me but still obviously she has some fan's still.

First of all most countries at the time of Lennon's death didn't have albums charts and those that did show Double Fantasy at #1. His death probaby helped catalog sales either but there wasn't any data available at that time. and secondly, you're putting words in my mouth. I never mentioned anything about downloads whatsoever... Please stay focused...

He even got a boost up from last week. 2x platinum is in the bag! Hopefully radio will open up to 'Hold On' as well, as I see it being re-released later this year, and continue to sell the album during the holiday season. <3

I Agee with TheNew&ImprovedOne 100% John lennon's shocking death still resonates with that generation. My parents remember the "line" of people waiting to buy anything Lennon or the Beatles at record stores. My father waited in line that morning for "5 hours" along with a stuned crowd.

yes. I do understand why people here say that Michael Jackson's death is the bigger event though.
This was the biggest pre-mature death of a music star since John Lennon.
People here will naturally take it a step further and say Michael's death was bigger because everyone here experienced the news first-hand and almost no one here has any first-hand knowledge at all of the social impact in the late 70's of the death of Elvis or impact in 1980 and 1981 of the death of John Lennon

^If we did, someone would post them. We usually get that chart about 2-3 times a year.

yeah Taylor is still doing awesome and with her new album coming in October and the anniversary of Fearless in November and the holidays sales are bound to skyrocket and fearless will likely join the 7 million sellers club and her debut the 6 million sellers club of course fearless won't be the only country album released in the last few years to join the 7 million sales club in the near future Carrie Underwood's debut Album Some Hearts is going to in the next couple of weeks as it's at 6.996 million as of current catalog charts via the Idol Chatter blog at USA Today

I'm happy to see Jewel still in the top 50, with an 8% drop. She hasn't done any promotion lately, aside from touring and some internet features, and hasn't had any sort of hit this time. I hope Valory still tries another single, her new album has a few songs that could be hits.
