Overall, I must say Nirvana. Now, by phases, these are my choices:
Early 90's: Nirvana;
Mid 90's: Oasis;
Late 90's: Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I would say RHCP is more early 90's than late 90's.

Well, Blood Sugar Sex Magik is their best-selling record, yet, I think Californication is more popular, because of the singles it spawned. The late 90's are the only part of the decade I can remember well, since I born in 1993, and I recall Red Hot Chili Peppers being everywhere. That just my take on it, of course...
My other two choices were determined by what I know in terms of music history. As Grunge ruled the early 90's and Britpop dominated in the mid 90's, I felt like choosing the two bands that I think better represented those genres and phases.

Yeah, actually, I associate RHCP more with Californication than with Blood Sugar at this point since with the exception of "Under The Bridge", the Californication singles are the only ones I remember being on radio with any regularity. But that's mostly because of when I got into music and all that.

It's a question of what's better? The breakthrough or the comeback?
I'll just say Stadium Arcadium.

Looks like Nirvana is wining this poll. I think I will do a 80's poll next. I guess you could consider RHCP as a late 90's band.
