SuBo has a Christmas album coming out? Strong chance it will rule as the top holiday album this year.

I vote for defending champ - Andrea Bocelli
Susan Boyle has not been the same news figure this year that she was last year, for example, she didn't have air time for placing unexpectedly high in a talent show this year. And hasn't done much to stay in the news since she did have that air time.
Less exposure to the public eye automatically translates to less volume sold through stores.

And hasn't done much to stay in the news since she did have that air time. Less exposure to the public eye automatically translates to less volume sold through stores. People thought that after she faded from view following BGT that she would struggle to sell anything. That was hardly the case. Remember, you have about 4 million people that bought her first album. This next album will be a healthy seller. I could even see people buying this Christmas album from her that didn't necessarily buy the first one. She'll easily clear 2-2.5 million.

The youtube video and constant public exposure kept her in view. The exposure is not the same this year. Last year was kind of a "lightning in a bottle" phenomenon. That is unlikely to strike again.
Not saying people won't buy her album. I am saying it is unlikely to be the year's biggest seller or even the year's biggest holiday seller.
Put simply, Susan Boyle is a pop culture phenomenon of 2009. Probably album #2 will be big too But I am talking about a difference between being big and being the biggest.
The timing was off by one week otheriwse she would have had the #1 album of 2009. That type of impact is unlikely to happen twice.

But she also already holds an unprecedented over-one million advance order copies on Amazon for her forthcoming sophomore disc. I don't necessarily think her sophomore album will sell as well as her debut, but I still believe it will pack quite a commercial punch. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Susan Boyle recording Christmas album Posted Fri Jul 23, 2010 1:36pm AEST
Susan Boyle is in the studio recording a Christmas album, according to United States retail sources.
While details on the album's contents are still unclear, Sony is targeting an October street date for the as-yet-untitled release.
Columbia spokeswoman Fran DeFeo confirmed Boyle was "recording a new album to come out later this year," but did not have any other details.
The Scottish reality show winner recently announced a competition, called Susan's Search, to give her fans the chance to sing on the follow-up to her chart-topping debut, I Dreamed a Dream.
Aspiring Boyle collaborators can enter the competition by uploading a video of themselves singing Silent Night to her YouTube page.
The winner will record a duet with Boyle to appear on the album.

The pre-order post may have been referring to the debut album, not the second one. Not all the songs have been recorded yet

^I read a Christmas album. Well I guess the information we have is a little ambiguous... the title "The Gift" makes it sound like a Christmas album, but things said in some of the interviews Boyle and her producers have done (see the Wikipedia article) suggest that it will be a studio album with a variety of genres.

Whatever type of album Susan is releasing. It'll probably be massively successful. I know several people who bought her album for themselves or for other people just b/c it's Susan Boyle. Some of those people don't really use it and some haven't even opened it but people still bought it. She's like a musical version of fruitcake. People buy it around the holiday season whether they like it or not b/c it's a holiday staple.

I just think she is taylor-made for a Christmas album. She's a popular Adult Contemporary artist (currently) and has a voice that will be perfect for the medium, as well as a fanbase that usually purchases those types of albums.
She's as easy a fit as Josh Groban.

I am just saying it won't be as big as last year and we won't likely be seeing a Taylor vs Susan Boyle for album of the year thing like 2009 Although her voice is Taylor(swift?) made for Christmas, there are those who bought last year soley for curiousity and the youtube videos and the worldwide exposure from the talent show, all of which is not here this year. Many if those won't be back and sales will fall a bit from last years levels, probably to the point where we on't be seeing 4 million by December like we did last year

The title says "Susan Boyle recording Christmas album" should be a clue. Which Christmas songs and who she is recording duets with are still unclear

Still, I'm shocked Avenged Sevenfold are selling as impressively as they are. They're marking roughly a 70% increase from their previous first-week debut. You just don't see that with new releases in times like these where sales are on a steep downward spiral in general. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Yeah! Could go either way. Yep. I of course originally predicted Recovery would be #1 this week very easily by maybe like 20K. I did not expect AS to sell around 60K more this first week then there last albums first week.
I guess i can't count Arcade Fire out next week either. There last album sold 90K opening week. I think Em will drop to the 130K area.
But if AS can have a 60K increase in first week sales since there last album then Arcade Fire could do the same.
My guess is next week will be nail biter as well.
