Not Afraid has been gaining healthy on Pop these past few days, not really a fan of the song, but glad that Eminem is shaping up to have one of his best eras singles' success-wise

Not Afraid has been gaining healthy on Pop these past few days, not really a fan of the song, but glad that Eminem is shaping up to have one of his best eras singles' success-wise And it might rank as one of his best in album sales too. It's already set to sell more than Relapse. Anyways, I hope Paramore's 'The Only Exception' manages to outpeak 'Misery Business' this week. It's already close to that songs peak on Pop radio (#12 MB, #17 so far with lots of songs falling in front for TOE).

Well he's got a long way to go to even get in the top echelon.
1. MMLP - 10.25 Million
2. TES - 9.865 Million
3. SSLP - 5.1667 Million
4. Encore - 5 Million +
5. 8 Mile SDT - 4 Million + (Now this isnt marketed as an Eminem album so you can debate rather this should be here or not)
5. Curtain Call - 3.1 Million +
6. Relapse - 2 Million +
7. Recovery - 1.669 Million
8. Eminem Presents The Re-Up - 1.05 Million + (Now this isnt marketed as an Eminem album so you can debate rather this should be here or not)
So while of course he's going to top Relapse and Curtain Call. With the way the record industry is now i don't think it will sell more than Encore or The Slim Shady LP. Hope i'm wrong and it does. We will see.

Nice to see "Teenage Dream" and "Stuck Like Glue" both off to good starts at radio.
LtWyL is a frigging smash. Guaranteed a third week atop the chart, and fourth and fifth are pretty much sure things. Can't wait to see how long this goes.

Jar of Hearts should be rising just a tad faster, considering its digital success. Radio frustrates me.
Looks like Katy Perry's ready to have a second smash in a row. Nice early numbers for Sugarland and Ke$ha's new singles. Glad Lady A's latest is still rising. I'd like to see them get a third #1 from their album.
And, of course, Eminem is tearing it up.

Mitch Miller died on Saturday at age 99.
Why is this in the Billboard thread? Because Mitch Miller had the second #1 song of the rock and roll era in 1955 (right after 'Rock Around the Clock') when his cover version of "The Yellow Rose of Texas," topped the Billboard singles chart for 6 weeks. Now admittedly the song doesn't sound very much like a rock and roll record, but until rock and roll started gaining a real foot hold on the charts, a number of the early #1 songs didn't sound very rock and rollish.
And of course those of a certain age will aways remember Mitch Miller for "Sing Along With Mitch" his weekly, early 60's sing along TV show. Follow the bouncing ball...
RIP Mitch Miller.

"I Gotta Feeling" probably will go on to enjoy decent recurrent airplay success. It's outlasted all three singles that come after it.

Billboard's Chart Preview is out. "Love the Way You Lie" didn't manage to top either Pop Songs or Rap Songs this week.

Billboard's Chart Preview is out. "Love the Way You Lie" didn't manage to top either Pop Songs or Rap Songs this week. I didn't expect it would. It will top the latter chart next week, however, and the Pop Songs chart in two weeks. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

That could be a separate thread too. Some here do know music history prior to 1999 :o Maybe, but I'd venture to say that you are one of the very few here who had any idea who Mitch Miller even was. I'm surprised how many current chart-watchers have no interest whatsoever in chart/music history. Honestly, thanks to researching older charts I've discovered so much great music and so many amazing artists. Not that I'm necessarily a Mitch Miller fan, but he was a major star and very important in the development of music in the 50s and early 60s. More than just chart stats and feats, I'm fascinated by the big picture of music; how we got from Sophie Tucker and Glenn Miller to Beyonce and Eminem. How Mitch Miller and Jay-Z both went into the business side of music and what that meant to their careers. I think it's all interesting.

True "Chart -watchers" do.
A lot of what happens here is demographics. If the average person who posts here is 20-something and perhaps still in college. This would mean born in the late 80's or perhaps even the 90's . Mitch Miller's heyday was the 40s.
So more people here would identify with the birth of music being 1999 than anything else, which is unfortunate because a lot of amazing music happened before then

So more people here would identify with the birth of music being 1999 than anything else, which is unfortunate because a lot of amazing music happened before then Speaking from my own experience, I'm in my 20s, but my favorite of music was the 60s. Between the Brill Building, Wall of Sound, British Invasion, Motown, soul -- there was so much great, classic music. I just kind of absorbed it from my father as I was growing up. Now, I do like a lot of 90s and 2000s music, but they don't top what came before. It's different for most people, but I do think people (especially on the board) are missing out on a lot of great music from years past. Anyway, back to the thread here: I'm surprised to see "Not Afraid" growing as much as it had. Do we think this is a second wind for that track?
