True "Chart -watchers" do. A lot of what happens here is demographics. If the average person who posts here is 20-something and perhaps still in college. This would mean born in the late 80's or perhaps even the 90's . Mitch Miller's heyday was the 40s. So more people here would identify with the birth of music being 1999 than anything else, which is unfortunate because a lot of amazing music happened before then Speaking from my own experience, I'm in my 20s, but my favorite of music was the 60s. Between the Brill Building, Wall of Sound, British Invasion, Motown, soul -- there was so much great, classic music. I just kind of absorbed it from my father as I was growing up. Now, I do like a lot of 90s and 2000s music, but they don't top what came before. It's different for most people, but I do think people (especially on the board) are missing out on a lot of great music from years past. Anyway, back to the thread here: I'm surprised to see "Not Afraid" growing as much as it had. Do we think this is a second wind for that track? I agree, I don't think when you were born is necessarily a factor. I was born in 1975 and I love music that came before then. And I enjoy current music. For some people here I don't think it's age, it's attitude. The idea that "It's old, I don't care about it." That's a shame. I'm not saying you're ignorant if you've never heard of Mitch Miller; for someone born after the 60s that's understandable. It's the idea that "Some guy I never heard of died and I don't care who he was or what he did because he wasn't as good as [insert current pop star here]." It's a willful ignorance that I find sad.

Of course there are exceptions. What I said was not meant as a rule but rather as a generality.
I think for most, when you were born is a factor. If you were born in 1990, for example, you are more likely to identify most with current music and less likely to care about older music. You may see anything from older periods as "your parents music" and could be less likely to care about it.
And if you are less likely to care about it you are also less likely to find out about it.
It is well documented here that specific genres are all that matters and music only after a certain period is all that matters.
There is nothing wrong with that but the purpose of my statement was to distinguish between true-chart fans and artist-specific fans.
True chart fans may not have heard every #1 hit that came before they were born but should at least be familiar with the names of most of the artists and songs.

True, and a lot of knowledge (about anything that interests you) comes with age. For one, it takes years to discover music from the past. I'm still discovering new-to-me songs from past decades all the time.
And you do reach a point, usually in your later 20s, when you start to feel "you've heard it all before." You get bored with the contemporary scene, especially when it starts catering to people years and decades younger than you. So you can look at the past with a fresh perspective. At this point (age 35), chart-watching helps me feel like I'm not out of touch. If I didn't follow the charts how much would I really know about Justin Bieber? I guess it just keeps me feeling younger, lol.

The song is ok. Not awesome, but not worth raving about in every post of every thread ;)
Anyway, I am excited to see the HOT 100 this week.

The song is ok. Not awesome, but not worth raving about in every post of every thread ;) That's how I feel about it. The only reason I "rave" about it is that it excites me to see a song truly succeed, no matter what I think of it.

Billboard Chart Alert:
• Though Eminem is sidelined from No. 1 on the Billboard 200, perhaps he can take solace in the knowledge that he still owns the No. 1 slot on the Digital Songs chart as "Love the Way You Lie" sells another 300,000 downloads (down 10%).
The biggest movers into the Digital Songs' top 10 are Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" (11-4 with 183,000; up 119%) and Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" (12-7 with 135,000; up 68%). The tally's highest debut is Sugarland's "Stuck Like Glue" at No. 12 with 93,000.

Love The Way You Lie is one of the worst songs out right now imo. First of all, who do u listen to? Pop: (80’s and 90’s) Michael Jackson, (80’s and 90’s Madonna), Christina Aguilera (Stripped only, Bionic not anymore), P!nk (Debut album + Funhouse), (80’s and 90’s) Janet Jackson, and Celine Dion. R&B: Alicia Keys, Usher, Ciara, Beyonce, (90’s) Mariah Carey, Monica, Maxwell, Sade, John Legend, (90’s) Whitney Houston, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Gladys Knight & The Pimps, Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, Babyface, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Toni Braxton. Rock: Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, The Eagles, The Police, U2, Coldplay, Santana, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Muse, and ACDC. Hip Hop: (90’s) Black Eyed Peas, Fugees, Kanye West, Nas, Tupac, J Cole, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, KRS ONE, The Notorious B.I.G, Lupe Fiasco, Lauryn Hill, and Immortal Technique. Who do YOU listen to?

Who do YOU listen to? I only listen to Hip-Hop so i listen to all them people u just named! But, REALLY?i mean i can't believe u and i don't expect you to care about me not believing what you're saying! Anyways...Saying LTWYL is the worst single right now is pure hating. Looking at the top 10, its really ignorant to say its worst than Your Love by Nicki or its worst than Cali Gurls by Katty! P.S if u really listen to Hip-Hop and listen to the lyrics(Immortal's to be specific), then u should care about metaphors and creativity..He used Rihanna on this one not to make it a hit. He used her because she had problems with her Ex. Either way, its ur opinion. But, that was pure hating! And yeah 2. EMINEM - Love The Way You Lie f/Rihanna: 120.161 (+ 2.605) ;)

R&B: Alicia Keys, Usher, Ciara, Beyonce, (90’s) Mariah Carey, Monica, Maxwell, Sade, John Legend, (90’s) Whitney Houston, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Gladys Knight & The Pimps, Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, Babyface, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Toni Braxton. Rock: Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, The Eagles, The Police, U2, Coldplay, Santana, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Muse, and ACDC. Hip Hop: (90’s) Black Eyed Peas, Fugees, Kanye West, Nas, Tupac, J Cole, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, KRS ONE, The Notorious B.I.G, Lupe Fiasco, Lauryn Hill, and Immortal Technique. Who do YOU listen to? And yeah 2. EMINEM - Love The Way You Lie f/Rihanna: 120.161 (+ 2.605) ;) I don't only look for lyrics. I also look for flow and production. That song was ruined from the get go with Rihanna's annoying voice. And after a while, the average production, lyrics, and Eminem's annoying shouting becomes rather stale. And word of advice: Have some more VARIETY. Just sayin'.
