Looks like this will be its final consecutive week at the top of the tally, as "Mine" will all but certainly assume the top spot next week.

That said, figures are ultimately more important than peak position, and this single doesn't yet show any sign of slowing down, especially with the album also selling mightily.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: "I Gotta Feeling" will join a very exclusive league of immortal party staples like Kool & The Gang's "Celebration" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" that will be ubiquitously featured at children's carnivals, charity bake-offs and block parties until the end of time.

Why? Several reasons: 1) Unlike "Boom Boom Pow" and "Imma Be", which were unmistakably colossal hits themselves, it doesn't sound dated lyrically and is utterly inoffensive, 2) its ability to appeal across multiple genres that traditionally steer clear of dance music like the Adult Top 40, and 3) unlike the rest of the group's hits that are more thematically focused on the band's boasting of their own celebrity status, "I Gotta Feeling" relies on a harmonious brevity, a familiar melodic hook and is thematically focused on the spirit of the party, as opposed to blurting about next-level digital pizazz or name-dropping their own group name and tinkering with sound effects.

The reason why the CHR/Rhythmic format has become a also-ran heavy format these days is because the rappers and vocalists that dominate it are constantly thematically boasting of their own celebrity status, wealth, ego and influence..........thus making the tracks sound instantly dated and interchangeable. As large as "Boom Boom Pow" and "Imma Be" were as hits, they too won't have even a fifth of the staying power of "I Gotta Feeling"................because those two hits rely on image, while "I Gotta Feeling" relies on, well, feeling. And when it comes down to having a good time, it's pretty self-evident which of the two you'll really want in spades, regardless of how much effort you put into dressing yourself up for the occasion.
