This is rather quick, don't you think? I feel like we just got exposed to "The Catalyst" no more than a month ago and it's still just beginning to really make a long-tenured impact on the charts.
EDIT: This song is pretty awesome BTW. I'm not a big fan of a lot of rapping, but it fits in real well with the guitar and Chester's vocals.

I believe they're making the right move. "The Catalyst" is essentially for Linkin Park what "Discotheque" was for U2. It's already losing spins at Active Rock barely three weeks after its release, and it's also showing signs of wear at Alternative. Moreover, it hasn't gotten a wide glowing reception among any facet of their fan base, whether it be their nu-metal-leaning constituency or fans of their recent evolution to ambient rock and roll and deviant pop. If they don't release a follow-up now, it can very well doom this album era for them. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

It does seem a little quick. But maybe they figured they needed to premiere this to persuade those who didn't like The Catalyst and wanted more of the "old" Linkin Park. This feels like something from Hybrid Theory, but updated to fit today's sound more. I, personally, like The Catalyst more, but that could change down the road.
Also, I don't think there is a release date announced for this song yet.

It's Wretches and Kings, like it or not I love it, Chester is crazy here! But this has no official adds date as of yet, though the radio will play it regardless. People who were at the Warner Brothers listening this past monday confirmed that "Waiting For The End" is the 2nd single. Maybe they changed their minds, but thats what we have heard so far. We haven't heard anything about this being the 2nd single. Regardless, I think LP has another hit on their hands..

If "Wretches and Kings" is indeed the follow-up, I do think it's a wise choice, as they're in some ways essentially saving face with their part of the base that prefers their nu-metal origins that have been disaffected overall with their branching out since the "Minutes to Midnight" era. This song was given as an album preview track download to those who pre ordered the album directly from LP. I didn't see the word single used anywhere.

Haha. Rather lousy comeback there from ''metalfan''. Maybe one day he'll get done for sock puppetry, who knows. ;)

Yeah, I didn't see the word "single" either. I did see "release" however. Doesn't mean it'll be a full fledged single.

To be fair, I did see the word single attached to the Youtube video, but only to say this is the "single" released to people who preordered the album or something.

Is it just me or do a lot of rock bands really like that speech? Why? Who else has used it? I think it modernizes fairly well the hip hop aspect of their sound that was largely absent from their last album. I like Mike's nods to Public Enemy, first with his twist on the first line from "Bring the Noise": "...(save) face! How low can you go?" And then he works Chuck D's first name into the very next line. A little further in he slips in the phrase "fight the power." And who knows? Maybe a bigger Public Enemy fan could spot a few more references.

I know I've heard another band use it, but I can't find who right now. I also thought Hed (P.E.) used it, but it turns out they borrowed from a different speech so never mind on that note.

Hm. The Australian band Cog also used it and I knew that since I have their albums but I guess I thought another band used it too cause I remember hearing it somewhere else. But maybe not.

^ Me too. Hopefully there is a better song on the album to serve as a second single. I'm not a fan of this track. The Catalyst is miles better.
