"The exquisitely tailored βJust Give Me a Reasonβ by P!nk featuring Nate Ruess embodies the Grammy sound so completely that it could have been designed in a Grammy lab. I think all three will make it."
Why does Paul keep saying that?

Seems like he's underestimating Mirrors/Get Lucky/Blurred Lines - I think those are the frontrunners, with Royals, Thrift Shop/Same Love and Just Give Me A Reason as the next tier. Radioactive is in the mix but not a sure thing, IMO.

-Tamar isn't a "new" artist, she's gotten re-introduced though.
-Kendrick should defintely be a BNA nom. His buzz + the "Control" response/buzz.. if they ignore that than...
-"Blurred Lines" should get the main noms

Gaga at a stretch could get nominated for Best Short Form Music video, and "maybe" Pop Solo Vocal. I'm hoping for it. She has good history (3 AOTY nominations, 5 total wins) but obviously she is not where she was 2009-2011. I'm hoping "Applause" can sneak in. I think if it were still divided Pop Female/Pop Male, she'd have a good shot with Bruno & Justin out of the picture. Katy, Taylor, Gaga, Lorde & Miley.

I would love to see Cruise win just to watch Pulse explode.
Will probably to go the usual slow song though.

I know there are only 5 nominees per category but for the major categories, doesn't some Blue Ribbon panel (IDK what it's called) get a shortlist of the top 15 entries and then they decide the final 5 nominees?

This. I used to stalk the Grammy website in the early 2000s and back then it was clear how the general field voting process works. There is a special panel that decides the FINAL nominees for the general categories. Unfortunately the website today is more vague and doesn't specifically mention it anymore but I'm sure the process is the same. www.grammy.org/recording-academy/awards/grammy-awards-voting-process

Tweeted about this and ended up discussing a bit with Billboard's Keith Caulfield (start reading here). There's a second round where that "blue ribbon panel" narrows down the big four in the General Field plus a few of the genre-based categories. www.grammy.com/awards/voting-process-infographic

Yeah, Ed Sheeran is eligible I believe but Vampire Weekend would not make sense. They were nominated for Best Alternative Music Album 3 years ago and their debut album (2008) was very successful as well.
