Shocked at how "Feel This Moment" got in considering the video is a horrid mess.

Video of the Year Β» Justin Timberlake, "Mirrors" {I can see that} Β» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz, "Thrift Shop" {Definitely deserves it} Β» Bruno Mars, "Locked Out of Heaven" {no} Β» Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell, "Blurred Lines" {definitely deserving} Β» Taylor Swift, "I Knew You Were Trouble" {eh...} IMO, "Thrift Shop" or "Blurred Lines" deserves the win here out of the noms.
Best Hip Hop Video Β» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us" {good video, very deserving} Β» Drake, "Started From The Bottom" {never seen it} Β» Kendrick Lamar, "Swimming Pools" {never seen it} Β» A$AP Rocky feat. Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar, "F--kin' Problems" {no} Β» J. Cole feat. Miguel, "Power Trip" {never seen it} Since 3/5 videos I've never seen, I can't make an informed decision.
Best Male Video Β» Justin Timberlake, "Mirrors" {check} Β» Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell, "Blurred Lines" {check} Β» Bruno Mars, "Locked Out of Heaven" {check, still no} Β» Ed Sheeran, "Lego House" {all I know is it stars Ron Weasley} Β» Kendrick Lamar, "Swimming Pools" {never seen it} Go "Blurred Lines," I guess?
Best Female Video Β» Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko, "Stay" {but it's so boring} Β» Taylor Swift, "I Knew You Were Trouble" {eh...} Β» Miley Cyrus, "We Can't Stop" {lolololololololololololololololololololololololololol} Β» Pink feat. Nate Ruess, "Just Give Me A Reason" {should be "Try"} Β» Demi Lovato, "Heart Attack" {-.-} It's sad to say, but out of this list, "We Can't Stop" is probably the *best* video. I can think of so many more deserving videos, though.
Best Pop Video Β» Bruno Mars, "Locked Out of Heaven" {NO!} Β» Justin Timberlake, "Mirrors" {check} Β» Fun., "Carry On" {er... okay} Β» Miley Cyrus, "We Can't Stop" {oh Jesus} Β» Selena Gomez, "Come and Get It" {okay} "Mirrors" or "We Can't Stop" here.
Artist To Watch, Presented by Taco Bell Β» Twenty One Pilots, "Holding On To You" Β» Zedd feat. Foxes, "Clarity" Β» Austin Mahone, "What About Love" Β» The Weeknd, "Wicked Games" Β» Iggy Azalea, "Work" Since this is about videos, I think this category is completely unnecessary.
Best Collaboration Β» Justin Timberlake, feat. Jay-Z, "Suit & Tie" {okay} Β» Pitbull feat. Christina Aguilera, "Feel This Moment" {no} Β» Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding, "I Need Your Love" {never seen it} Β» Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell, "Blurred Lines" {good} Β» Pink feat. Nate Ruess, "Just Give Me A Reason" {meh}
Best Video With A Social Message Β» Kelly Clarkson, "People Like Us" Β» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, "Same Love" Β» Snoop Lion, "No Guns Allowed" Β» Miguel, "Candles in the Sun" Β» BeyoncΓ©, "I Was Here" I still can't at this category. "People Like Us" vs. "Same Love" for me.
Best Rock Video Β» Imagine Dragons, "Radioactive" Β» Fall Out Boy, "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)" Β» Mumford & Sons, "I Will Wait" Β» Thirty Seconds To Mars, "Up in the Air" Β» Vampire Weekend, "Diane Young" Never seen 3/5 of the videos, but of the other two, "Radioactive" > "My Songs" video-wise.
Best Art Direction Β» Capital Cities, "Safe and Sound" {WHICH ONE?!} Β» Thirty Seconds To Mars, "Up in the Air" Β» Janelle Monae feat. Erykah Badu, "Q.U.E.E.N" Β» Lana Del Rey, "National Anthem" Β» Alt-J, "Tesselate"
Best Choreography Β» Chris Brown, "Fine China" Β» Ciara, "Body Party" Β» Jennifer Lopes feat. Pitbull, "Live It Up" Β» will.i.am feat. Justin Bieber, "#thatPOWER" {oh...} Β» Bruno Mars, "Treasure"
Best Cinematography Β» Thirty Seconds To Mars, "Up in the Air" Β» Lana Del Rey, "Ride" Β» Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Sacrilege" Β» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us" Β» A-Trak & Tommy Trash, "Tuna Melt" I've only seen "Can't Hold Us," but it looks like a theatric film, so it's very highly deserving!
Best Direction Β» Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z, "Suit & Tie" Β» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us" Β» Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Sacrilege" Β» Fun., "Carry On" Β» Drake, "Started From The Bottom" idk...
Best Editing Β» Pink feat. Nate Ruess, "Just Give Me A Reason" Β» Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch, "Sweet Nothing" Β» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us" Β» Justin Timberlake, "Mirrors" Β» Miley Cyrus, "We Can't Stop" {k} Here is where I think "Just Give Me a Reason" is deserving of a nod over "Try."

Queen B. now has, I believe, 43 nominations (counting those silly 2007 nominations- i.e. Quadruple Threat), extending her lead as the female with the second-most nods.
With a nod for "Stay," Rihanna ups her nods count to 30.

Oye. I know these are pretty much a mess every year but ugh.
BONEHEAD MOVE: "Blurred Lines" is nominated for Best Male Video AND Best Collaboration BONEHEAD MOVE: "Thrift Shop" nominated for Video of the Year, despite "Can't Hold Us" getting 4 other nominations (forget the fact that this spot should've gone to "Same Love") BONEHEAD MOVE: "Try"?! At least Best Choreography! Art Direction? BONEHEAD MOVE: The lack of Best Group Video is so, so, so dumb. BONEHEAD MOVE: Making these things fan-voted, ensuring Taylor Swift wins Video of the Year for a blatant rip-off of last year's Video of the Year winner.
How little attention do they pay to these?
Not to channel Kanye, but these awards COULD be accurate/great/important. They could make this a real event.
Should be a good year for performers though, if they can get the returning divas to perform. Gaga, BeyoncΓ© and Katy would be good. Justin & Jay-Z together? I'd LOVE a Kanye West performance. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis doing "Same Love".

Not surprised with Mirrors getting the love. Diamonds deserved some nominations over Stay, esp with Cinematography and Female. S&S got no love when its one of the biggest collaborations and definitely a shoe in for editing.

If "Try" isn't nominated then this year's show has no purpose. I rest my case.

I'm going to chime in too.
P!nk's "Try" not being nominated is a fucking joke.

If by "effort" you mean "looked at whatever hit the Top 10 on the Hot 100 and threw its music video into a category," then they surely busted their balls.

MTV is and always has been about what's "popular" at the moment. IDK what is your problem, really, you're looking for indie, underground, flop awards or it is just that your favorite artists aren't in the list, WTF...
This year's nominations are an improvement than last year's mess imo and I hope the telecast is better than 2012's borefest.

The nominees in recent years have been rather mediocre- but, does that reflect MTV or the decline in videos?
MTV's often nominated some less mainstream acts/videos in the technical categories.

Taylor did tweet about her nomination and it did suggest she was attending. Maybe she'll fly to NYC for the day.

I don't think the nominations are as bad as they seem on the surface. It hasn't been a great year for videos to me. Lots of bland or bad videos that actually made me like the songs less. Most of the videos nominated are videos that were good/better than the rest OR made a big impact. Like, you can bash Blurred Lines all you want, but the video got people talking like videos rarely do nowadays and it helped fuel the song to become a massive hit. We Can't Stop is such a bad video that it became good again and then bad again. But either way, again, people are talking about it more than most other videos this year combined.
So I guess I am not that excited about the videos, but for a bad year for music videos the nominees make sense. I am hoping for a HUGE Gaga comeback performance and Miley being a total hot mess onstage-that will be fun.

This is why we need Gaga back. She makes everyone want to make better videos in order to keep up with her.

And since the awards are based on online votes, it's pretty much a given that Taylor will win VOTY. Fan voting is one of the reasons why MTV has declined.

Her videos were starting to get a bit bloated/boring. We need a refocus on music videos/video oriented programming on MTV back. They don't even have a new countdown show at the very least.

I can't believe Feel This Moment was nominated over Scream & Shout for best collab. SERIOUSLY? Does MTV have a vendetta against Britney or something? FTM is practically a live video not to mention S&S was a MUCH bigger hit. And it's ridiculous that #ThatPower was nominated for best choreography over Try and Gangnam Style or Gentleman, what a JOKE!

FTM is practically a live video not to mention S&S was a MUCH bigger hit. They never really liked her like they do with Queen BeyoncΓ© and Gaga. They only used her for ratings but now she's kinda useless (she can't perform and she's boring now) so what's the point when you have BeyoncΓ©, Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Bieber, Rihanna, Katy, P!nk and even Legend X if she decides to go. Why waste a nomination and win with Britney? Sure a nomination for Scream & Shout seems harmless but her stans will make her win no matter what. In the other hand Feel This Moment is just a filler nominee that doesn't represent any threat so that way much better videos will have a chance to win.

No, we're looking for awards that actually praise making a good music video. Half of the videos nominated just don't fit the description.
