MTV is and always has been about what's "popular" at the moment. IDK what is your problem, really, you're looking for indie, underground, flop awards or it is just that your favorite artists aren't in the list, WTF... No, we're looking for awards that actually praise making a good music video. Half of the videos nominated just don't fit the description. 'We're' means Pulse Music Board forum-goers? and I think that last part of your post is just your opinion, right? There may be people that love "Mirrors", "I Knew You Were Trouble.", "Thrift Shop", etc.. Anyway people will always have some kind of bias but what can we do about MTV? endless complain?

There may be people that love "Mirrors", "I Knew You Were Trouble.", "Thrift Shop", etc.. Anyway people will always have some kind of bias but what can we do about MTV? endless complain? Well, it is called the MTV Video Music Awards. It should be awarding great videos, not great songs. That isn't an opinionated thing, that's just basic logic. I see why they would stick with the hits, and I totally get their reasoning behind it, but there's such a thing as picking out the best videos from the hits and just selecting a few hits at random and giving their videos some nominations. In my opinion, the three videos you mentioned are good and deserve some of the nominations they received. Those aren't the problem videos. However, "Locked Out of Heaven" for Video of the Year? "#thatPOWER" for Best Choreography? Yeah, no. I realize some people out there may think they're the best, but these nominations weren't picked by people who don't know two things about what makes a music video stand out above the rest. These were picked by so-called professionals who did nothing but just select hits at random and throw their videos into these nomination categories.

In the 90's it was a little more based on the videos than hits.

Yes, I don't understand what harm would it make to nominate great videos for big awards as well? There could be 2 big hits that have quality videos and some more unknown songs that have fantastic videos.

This is why we need Gaga back. She makes everyone want to make better videos in order to keep up with her. Uh, no. Gaga's videos were starting to really drag last era. She has no bearing on anyone else's videos.

She has no bearing on anyone else's videos. When she first started investing in her videos, I think she did. Videos like Telephone, Bad Romance, Paparazzi were the talk of the town when they came out. The last era, yeah, didn't get as much attention for the videos after their initial release. I think they were all good (except Edge Of Glory) but they didn't have the same spark that the ones from TFM had because if you always go for extravagant, then extravagant gets boring. I'd like to see a GaGa video in the MOMA or some place that's relatively open and spacious but that doesn't draw attention to glitz and glamour.

Besides Gaga who else do you guys think will perform for the indie band of the year will be twenty one pilots. If beyonce releases a, single by then maybe she'll perform. Macklemore will mostly likely perform same love or and we danced with all the noms he has. Maybe P!nk performs True Love. Justin & Jay-Z may perform Holy Grail or Take Back The Night. Kanye and Taylor will probably perform their new singles.

I miss the Vmas from the 80s and 90s.
Where they actually awarded great videos.
Where it actually meant something to win one.
Everyone who was anyone performed.
U felt like u were watching an amazing live concert festivals with awards. Now there is something weird about the way they are filmed, looks wreird and not authentic.
I think the last great vma was 05.
Nothing beats 89 where Paula was mtvs queen. Her 1989 medley is still one of the best in vma history, imo

This is shaping up to be the most pretentious VMA yet.

I am sure Katy will perform too so between the three it will be one of the biggest attention whoring VMAS ever. Throw in Miley and JT and I don't think the building could handle it. This will be a very interesting VMAS though at least with performances if it breaks down the way I think it will.

Miley has her own promo so there is probably a 75% chance that she will perform. Robin has also been rumored to perform as well.

So we could have
Lady Gaga Kanye West Miley Cyrus Katy Perry Justin Timberlake Robin Thicke Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Jay-Z Imagine Dragons Bruno Mars
That would be a reallllly impressive lineup. Maybe Rihanna can come premier "Jump" :)

I really wish Selena was going to perform at the show with Slow Down but it's kind of getting clear that Selena's not going to be performing there at all. But I do have to admit that the line-up is already impressive so I'm excited!

Daft Punk Cancels 'Colbert Report' Appearance for MTV VMAs (Video) 11:45 PM PDT 8/6/2013 by Philiana Ng UPDATED: The French duo were originally slated for an Aug. 6 appearance on the Comedy Central program but were no-shows, with Stephen Colbert taking some jabs. Daft Punk was a no-show on Tuesday's installment of The Colbert Report. The TV-shy French duo was set to appear on the Comedy Central program, but due to contractual obligations to the MTV Video Music Awards later this month, they canceled their scheduled performance. Both MTV and Comedy Central are owned by Viacom. "We booked Click and Clack over here about a month ago," host Stephen Colbert said during Tuesday's broadcast. "Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: No one told me until two hours ago.” VIDEO: Bryan Cranston on How 'Breaking Bad' Ends Colbert even named MTV president Van Toffler — whom the host said claimed to have the exclusive TV rights to Daft Punk — showing an alleged email that quoted Toffler as saying: "Not sure I can help you with that one. ... Checked with my peeps .... and they’re feelin' funky on this one." Still, Colbert managed to lure bold-faced names like Hugh Laurie, Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Jimmy Fallon and Jon Stewart to take part in a "Get Lucky" dance party. (Watch the video below.) Daft Punk's appearance, in support of their latest Random Access Memories album, was part of Colbert's "music festival," Colbchella. Instead, Robin Thicke performed his single "Blurred Lines" in their place. On a July 29 episode of NBC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Colbert dropped by the late-night talker dancing to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" in anticipation of the group's appearance. (Colbert first appears at the 7:25 mark.) The MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Aug. 25. Daft Punk joins previously announced performers Kanye West and Lady Gaga on the bill. Reps for MTV did not immediately respond for comment. www.hollywoodreporter.com/earshot/daft-punk-cancels-colbert-report-600618

Wait, Daft Punk can appear at the VMAs but not release an actual video for "Get Lucky"? What's up with that?!
