What are some music-related opinions people have that are red flags to you? Maybe it's an opinion they hold about an artist (positive or negative), or about a genre of music, or something related to charts or sales or industry-related things. But something that, when you hear them say it out loud (or write it out), your reaction is "wow, someone actually thinks this? Get me out of here!"

Anybody who still listens to or works with Chris Brown are red flags. I like Ciara's music but I am giving her major side eye for working with Chris on "How We Roll".

Anytime someone tries to say singers like Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston cannot sing and they stan for a minimally talented, thin voiced never-was.

What's you issue with Marie Osmond? {For Future Reference} This user's username at the time this comment was made was "Marie Osmond Is A Fucking Cunt".

I bailed on a date when he said he'd rather listen to some indie-alt band rather than Britney Spears.

A friend of mine (whom I like and respect very much in every facet other than his taste in music) told me a few months ago that he saw βa band Iβve really liked for a while, AJRβ in concert. I had to bite my tongue so hard.
Selecting an Ed Sheeran song, βWhat A Wonderful World,β βAll of Me,β or some other tired, basic song for a first dance, and/or making the band sing βMr. Brightsideβ as the last song at a wedding are absolute red flags.

"I hate rap and country." Someone who calls themselves a music fan while completely dismissing an entire genre of music outright isn't a logical music fan to me. You don't have to love all genres of music but to completely close yourself off from even considering the legitimacy of a genre of music is wild to me. (this only applies to fans of music. Casual music listeners likely don't give much thought to the music they listen to so they definitely haven't given much thought to music they don't listen to either).
When I was single, I've legit distanced myself from guys who said they hated Lady Gaga. I know it's a bit hasty, but for me it's less about someone not liking an artist and more about reasons why. I think the same applies really to any major artist. It's obviously perfectly fine not to like Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor, Madonna, Mariah, Celine, etc, but I do often find that when it comes to pop women in particular, the reason often stems from something adjacent to misogynist or sexist, or even just music snobbiness (which is also usually sexist). Saying you hate Lady Gaga because you think she's fake back in the day only said to me that you didn't get it. Calling any major act "untalented" to me is another red flag. Talent is more than vocal range.
I once went on a date with a guy who took pride in being someone who listened to classical music and went to plays, symphonies, and read 'literature', and when the conversation got to music and what I liked, he couldn't believe that I called myself a Lady Gaga fan. He was beside himself because I otherwise seemed "intelligent" and we had other good discussions that I think he enjoyed, but he had it in his mind that any fan of pop music was shallow, simple-minded, unintelligent. It was actually probably the most entertaining date I'd ever been on because I think he actively closed himself off to the world around him in an effort to maintain some air about him that screamed sophistication but instead screamed pretentious and snobby and, quite frankly, dull. I was quickly not interested in him as a dating prospect but I would have seen him again just for the entertainment value. lol
Other red flags: people who listen only to classic rock. Not that there's anything wrong with classic rock but when someone cites their favourite music as the same ol' same ol' dinosaur bands of the 60s and 70s, it basically tells me that they think everything else is beneath them (until they say otherwise, which almost never happens anyway).
People who focus more on music they don't like than music they do like. We all have songs and artists we don't like, but if someone is constantly bashing or tearing down artists or genres of music - especially when they tear people down for their music tastes, or criticize of mock people for music they like, that's a huge red flag to me. We like what we like and it's usually dependent on personal experiences, memories, nostalgia, emotions. People shouldn't be ashamed to like what they like and people should especially not be made to feel bad for liking what they like.

- Using the term βmumble rapβ while having Eminem among their favorites because βhe raps about real stuffβ
- Dismisses mainstream music as a whole and citing musicians who havenβt been relevant or as relevant as defining examples

Musical red flags are something I've been thinking about recently. What I have in mind is when someone says they refuse to listen to music outside of a certain era (eg 80s or older music), refuse to listen to a genre because of a couple of bad popular artists, or they only care about radio hit songs and wouldn't bother with lesser known songs/artists.

When someone who thinks its okay if rappers don't write their raps and then tries to put them in the same category/compare them to rappers that do.

I got so much hate for my music taste both online and in real life to the point i hardly talk about my music taste anywhere.
Anyway there's few i can think atm:
Insulting someone online just because you don't like an certain song/singer and vice versa. Few years ago i nearly received a death threat just because i said that one song was "meh". And no it wasn't from a KPOP stan or from a Swiftie.
Saying that the genres you hate "are not real music".
Automatically dislike music just because is not in English, it was sung by a man or woman or because it's obscure/mainstream. I was ridiculed by my family for listening to less known singers.
Instead of developing their own music tastes, they only like whatever their favourite music YouTuber also likes.
Dismissing whole genres because it's "for the poor", "for the middle aged women", "for the average white men", "for the disabled people " etc.

Can never criticize their fav. I have no problems ruffling Miss Carey (lambs can attest to my feelings about MC during the Stella years) but she ain't do shit YOURS does a lot can we drag her for it
If you can't criticize yours I don't find you a credible, authentic person and makes me lose respect instantly.

"I hate pop music".
No you dont, you hate female singers. a most mainsteam artists in all genres fit into some subcategory of "pop music", you just dont want to admit it.
