It also affects Tim McGraw in one key standing: weeks at #1. With my stance, McGraw is logging his 65th week at #1. Here is where he lands between two other artists: 7. Sonny James-66 8. Tim McGraw-65 9. Marty Robbins-63 If you were to include the 'duet', McGraw would be tying James at this point. I say not.

Do you credit Reba with a #1 for Mind Your Own Business?

Do you credit Reba with a #1 for Mind Your Own Business? Absolutely! Also, Willie Nelson. That is discussed as well in the #1 Artists thread.

Does anybody know who's immediately ahead of Tim as it relates to #1 singles at Billboard?
There's no doubt in the minds of some of us that his label has cost him several charttoppers over the past six years, but that's another thread topic.
Thanks!

Does anybody know who's immediately ahead of Tim as it relates to #1 singles at Billboard? Yeah, ironically, I think Tim's 24 #1 hits puts him one shy of the top 10 — right behind Reba — who has 25 #1 hits...

This one looks like it could hang on for a 3rd week. Jason won't challenge (I expect him to begin dropping this week), and Carrie is about 2.1 million back. Tim hosts CC-USA this coming weekend, and "Country Strong" goes into wide release. I think Arista may be planning to push Carrie's song hard this week, but they'll have their work cut out for them.
Curb had an ad for this song in both the BCU and Country Aircheck pages tonight, saying "#1 and still going strong!" I just can't see this one dropping, and I'm not sure if Carrie can overtake him. She's behind by about 900 some points on Mediabase, too, which will be a tough gap to close. Should be an interesting week, though. If Tim gets his 3rd week, I think the window will have closed for "Mama's Song", as Kenny Chesney is within 1 million of Carrie, and Keith is within 1 million of Kenny. Both songs are looking like strong #1 contenders, and if Carrie can't bump Tim off this week (on either chart), I think she'll fall, Tim gets his 3rd week at #1 (on BB), and then Kenny moves in.
I like this song much better than "Mama's Song", but I do wish that, with MS so close to #1, Carrie could still find some way to continue her #1 streak, at least on the Mediabase chart. But, if I were to pick any of Tim's recent singles to be worthy of 3 weeks at #1, it'd be this one. It's so darn catchy! It remains one of my most liked singles out there, too.

Personally, I wouldn't be shocked if this pulled a "Consider Me Gone" and rode the holiday freeze to four weeks at #1. There aren't any new Tim singles being held back from release because of this song's chart run, so Curb might as well milk the track for as long as possible. It's a strong enough single to peak near 5400 spins on the published chart, IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this one held on for four weeks at #1 on Billboard, and I will be surprised if it fails to hold on to #1 this week, since Country Strong is expanding to theaters nationwide and Tim will therefore have the chance to have the #1 country song along with the #1 movie in the USA. There is no question programmers are behind this song. I can't help but think that some portion of the ease with which this song has shot up the charts has to do with cross-promotion, i.e., while Gwyneth Paltrow and, to a lesser extent, Leighton Meester, are handling the mainstream pop culture presence for the movie, McGraw is handling the country market. What's in it for Music Row? The opportunity to bask in the reflected glory and increased legitimacy (in Hollywood's eyes, for whatever that's worth) that a #1 movie would confer.
But I will also freely admit that I don't like this song and that inclines me naturally to look for reasons to explain why it is doing so well. I think it has its playful moments lyrically, but the pop-rock melody pushes Tim into very generic phrasing choices and the vocal processing drains the personality out of his voice. For me, Tim is at his best as an interpreter when you can hear the raw honesty in his voice. This song comes nowhere near that, and production choices that drown out his voice don't help.
That said, I think it is resonating well enough among fans to warrant the programmer support. Although callout isn't that great (I'm not seeing particular strength in any demos, either), downloads have been solid. I also think it's a big testament to McGraw's star power that he is able to register this kind of impact while being at loggerheads with his label. If this were blocking out a song that I am passionate about, I might be more annoyed by its chart run. As it is, I see it merely as another in a cluster of really mediocre #1s (joining "Why Wait," "Turn on the Radio" and, to count Mediabase, "My Kinda Party").

It surprises me how much I like this song. I know a lot of his fans prefer the lighter/funnier side of Tim, but I'm not one of them. I do like and listen to some of them, but it's the "Walk Like A Man", "Ive Got Friends That Do", "Mr. Whoever You Are", "You Had To Be There" type of songs that I love.
I think there are two reasons I like this despite the fact that this type of song wouldn't normally work for me. The first is that it is different. That's one of the things that works for me regarding Tim. It also means there are some I never want to hear again. I like other artists and their songs, but so many of them kind of bleed into each other that I can't keep my interest level up. So while this is really out on the fringes of what he does, it works for me. He's having fun and playing around a little (or a lot). The second reason is that with this song and "It's A Business..." the woman is totally in charge. They may be solely about sex, but it is on the woman's terms. At Tim's stage in his career this is a good move as far as I'm concerned. Yea, he's made some real stinkers along the way, but they were earlier in his career and at a younger age. I give newer artists and younger men somewhat of a pass when they release songs like that, but when Kenny, George, Keith, Toby, etc. release them it pretty much creeps me out. And if Tim were to release one like now that I would feel the same.
As far as thoughts on why it seems to be doing well on the charts I'll leave to the experts. I'm happy it's doing well because that means he'll keep making music. And, of course, it's adding to his points on the Whitburn list. :)

I was looking at my rankings of Tim McGraw's biggest hits (I did the list back in October during his 14th anniversary with Faith Hill). If Felt Good On My Lips does stay at #1 for a third week, two things will happen: 1. It will be his first three week #1 if it stays for that long. 2. It will rank ninth as one of his biggest hits, putting My Best Friend at #10 and pushing out Real Good Man. Of course, I agree with everything 43dudleyvillas said as well.

I don't know if Curb Records even has any new singles to release as a follow-up to this; I'm inclined to think that since Tim & his label just can't stand each other, Curb just might consider milking it for all it's worth, and especially if this turns out to be his final single for them.
If that means another 2-3 weeks at #1, that would definitely work for me.
After some of the horrendous choices for singles from his solid 'Let It Go' CD undoubtedly cost him at least two or three more #1 singles IMHO, I'm nevertheless very glad that he's #1 again.
It would really be nice if they did release some great tunes of his from the past several years that weren't released as singles, with 'I've Got Friends That Do' and 'Blank Sheet Of Paper' topping my list, but I'd be floored if that happened.

^I suppose it could, but I'm not sure...Tim is getting a lot of help this week from radio/TV appearances, and the wide release of Country Strong this weekend, but Kenny's song has climbed even a bit faster (about a week or two quicker pace than Tim), and I don't think he'll wait too much longer. And I'm not ruling out Carrie yet either, for next week that is. After that, though, I will rule her out. My reasoning is that Carrie hosts the CC-USA countdown next weekend, so Arista may give "Mama's Song" one last push. If Tim plateaus out, Carrie could challenge. Or Kenny could. But I'll say he gets the week after, since he co-hosts CC-USA on the weekend of January 22.
So, maybe I could be wrong, and Tim's song could really hold on. I wouldn't mind if it did, as I really like it, but I like Carrie a lot too (not "Mama's Song" so much) and seeing her song get so close and not make it would be a bit tough to take. But at least it would lose out to a worthy song, or should I say 2 worthy songs if you include Kenny's "Somewhere With You".
Here's my predictions:
1/22 chart: Tim gets a 3rd week at #1 on Billboard 1/29 chart: Tim gets a 4th week at #1, or either Carrie or Kenny could sneak in on one or both charts. 2/5 chart: Kenny moves up to #1 here, if he hasn't already. I don't see him waiting any longer, since this chart coincides with the weekend he co-hosts CC-USA. Even if Tim isn't falling hard, or Carrie is still kinda "there", Kenny will make it to #1. He could follow it up with a 2nd week, or maybe Keith will cut him short.
Should be interesting!

Why not release the 'dance version' of Indian Outlaw? Fourth week at #1 in Canada!

I'm guessing that Tim hangs on for a third week next week, but then Kenny will take over the following week. I could see a fourth week happening, but I think it's more likely that Kenny catches up to him by then.

^Definitely possible. But I'm maintaining my belief that Carrie can't be ruled out for the week in between them, the 1/29 chart. Tim co-hosts CC-USA this weekend, then Carrie on the 15th, then Kenny on the 22nd. So I think if Carrie can hang in there, she might get a push from Arista. Of course, she'll have to hold off Kenny, which may or may not happen. If Kenny gets ahead, then I don't see any way that Carrie will squeak out a week at #1.
But, things do look good for Tim to get a 3rd week at #1!

I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this song. I heard it recently when I was going somewhere with my dad. I understand all of the negative reviews though; there is nothing remotely country about it at all. But it's still a nice little song to sing to in the car.

It's not the best song or anything, but I find it to be very creative and catchy. Came out a little too early, and publishing a review for it now would seem kinda funny, lol. But I do see why some other websites are giving it not-so-good reviews. I would've differed! ;)

I agree - I can see why people wouldn't like this song, but it's one of my favourites from 2010. It's my favourite Tim single since probably "I Need You".

Are the gains shown this morning a result of the countdown show jhomes87 and others have refered to? I know my staion only plays them on Saturday and Sunday, but I don't know if any play them on Friday. Just curious as everything from here on out is gravy.
I do have to add that a lot of people complain about singles that are released, but when radio makes a song like this a big hit and all but ignores some of their better ones, what's an artist to do? Radio may not be as important as it once was, but it still has it's place in getting the music out there...

^I'm not sure, but I noticed a solid jump for a lot of songs, especially next week's projected top 4 of Tim, Carrie, Kenny, and Keith. One other reason could be some songs didn't receive as much airplay on New Year's Eve last week, and now, with it being the 8th, New Year's Eve is out of the equation, so that lost airplay has been replaced. But that's just a guess--there could've been something going on on Friday--a countdown maybe?--that did help out these songs a bit more. Or maybe it's just them all jostling around and fighting for #1 Honestly, Tim has a shot at a 4th week. The 3rd week at #1 is all but in the books. Carrie has maintained pace, but she'll still have more than a 2 million gap to make up next week, if her label keeps battling. Kenny might slip ahead of her this week, too--they're heading to about the same audience total in a battle for #2, with Keith probably close to 2 million behind them. I'm excited to see how it will all turn out. I'm glad to see Tim enjoying another big hit. I hope that, once he leaves Curb, he will be able to have more freedom and a better management team and do things his own way--I think he'll get more hits then, like he did years ago. I don't think his career is done at all!

Yeah, I think there were a lot of "year end" countdown shows on New Years Eve, so that could explain the big jump for many of the top songs today.
Would 3 weeks at #1 on Billboard make this Tim's first multi-week #1 since "Live Like You Were Dying" in 2004 — and his 2nd biggest hit in 10 years?

Thanks for the replies. I was only thinking of yesterday and weekly countdown shows. I hadn't even considered any New Years Eve countdown shows.

Tomorrow morning's Mediabase chart will reflect the removal of a portion of the year-end countdown airplay which dominated programming last Saturday & Sunday, and Monday morning's chart should reflect the removal of the rest of those spins.
The current singles by Miranda, Reba, Rascal Flatts & Jason Aldean are all done, and should be off the charts within two weeks.
So Tim will indeed get two weeks atop the Mediabase chart, and a 3rd week at #1 at Billboard would appear to be a lock.
'Felt Good On My Lips' is indeed his first multi-week charttopper since 'Live Like You Were Dying' spent ten consecutive weeks at #1 at R&R/Mediabase, and seven non-consecutive weeks at #1 at Billboard in the summer of 2004.

So I've finally heard this song in its entirety for the first time today. I've only heard parts of this song: I either turn on the radio and it's the end of the song, or it comes on and I immediately change it because it's Tim McGraw. I've tried and tried to not like this one.
But that opening guitar sound just hooks me in. And the "wooooaahhh, how sweet it is". And the "oh oh oh I wanna go crazy". This is the catchiest song on country radio in quite some time. It's like a pop song gone country.
First I like a Kenny Chesney song for the first time in years. Now Tim McGraw? This can't be good. I don't remember the last Tim song I liked.
But this one is dang good. I'm this close to downloading it.

^Wow, just heard it? I agree though--very catchy and good. But I differ in that I've liked most of Tim's stuff. But still, this is his best in quite a while. I've heard it quite a bit less the last week and a half or so, now that it's on its decline, but during the weeks it was at #1, I couldn't turn on my radio and not hear this song.
Not coincedentally, I'm having the same thing happen to me with Kenny's "Somewhere With You". Can't seem to get enough of either song.
