I'm pleased with the Country album nominations. Dierks, Miranda and Jamey Johnson all had great, universally acclaimed albums. Zac Brown Band also had a decent album. I can't say the same for Lady Antebellum...

What I love about the Grammys is that it is NEVER about the charts. I disagree, particularly with the emphasis on 'never'. Sure, on the whole particularly with country nominees, songs and artists that were not particularly commercially successful have made a strong presence but it has proven to lean heavily commercial at times as well.

Wow! I'm really shocked to see Jewel nominated, she hasn't been nominated for the Grammys since the Pieces of You era, she was never a Grammy darling, and to see her amazing vocals on Satisfied get some recognition is just amazing. I'm really happy for her, cause it's a beautiful song and she nailed it.

Who decides these nominations? They're so random. Did they draw names from a hat or something?

Yeah the country Grammy nominees can showcase quite an assortment of commercial and non-commercial acts, but when it comes to handing out the actual trophy, nine times out of then the most commercial act is going to win due to the rest of the academy having no idea who the non-commercial acts are. I wouldn't be surprised if they locked Swift out of the nominations for that reason.

I see some are upset with Gretchen Wilson's nomination... Have any of you even listened to the song? It's absolutely gorgeous. Yes i listened to the song, and the song isnt AMAZING, its really average and i think her vocals are very mediocre on it. Usually i dont get angry over award shows, but this is really beginning to annoy me. Reba had 3 elegible hits consider me gone, i keep on loving you and turn on the radio and not one nomination. Her vocals on IKOLY are spot on and DEFINITELY should have been recognized. As for jewel, i have no idea how in god's name she is doing there. Here vocals on that song were very weak and also mediocre and not worthy of a nod in that category.

I think I would've preferred Reba get a nod over Gretchen, but Jewel's "Satisfied" is definitely VERY deserving of being in that category. In fact, if it weren't for "The House That Built Me," I would want her to take home the Grammy. Her voice is fantastic and the vocals she displays on that song are phenomenal.

It's a gorgeous song with such amazing, yet simple lyrics. Her voice is perfect for the song, and she's a great vocalist might I add. In then end, I'm very happy with the nominations. All the women are deserving, even Jewel, although I'm shocked she beat Reba/Taylor/Martina in the category.

Grammy has weird rules about if an album was nominated the year before no singles from that album can be nominated the next year, etc.

Were Taylor's Fearless and Fifteen eligible for this round of nominations? Or was Mine her only shot? No, because they were apart of Fearless which won Album of the Year last year. When an album wins a category, all the songs from it or ineligible to be submitted in the future. "Mine" was her only shot. I'm not shocked that she didn't get nominated, but I thought that she might be able to sneak in the Female Country Vocal Performance. Good nominations, overall. :)

I'm not sure how it beat out Reba/Martina/Taylor based on popularity, but based on quality, it deserves the nomination 100% imo.. I like Gretchen but after hearing Clay Walker's version I am not seeing her's as a Grammy winner...jmo.

Jewel got it because the Grammy Committee realized it is an awesome song. People will always complain that their artist doesn't get nominated.
I don't see Jewel winning but I am more than happy for her. Good to see something different in the category that it isn't just the same people again and again.

I should point out I realy like Jewel's song but I just never thought it'd get nominated. Also even though I own both versions of "I'd Love To Be Your Last" I never noticed they were the same song (sometime around buying song #17000 I started losing track of what I actually own ). After going back and listening I think Clay's version is really really great as well, would be interesting to hear a duet from them two as I think it'd mix well lol. Also I would hope Gretchen sees this as an opportunity to release it as a single.

Also I would hope Gretchen sees this as an opportunity to release it as a single. I was hoping she would release it as the third single just for the hell of it and see if maybe it could do halfway decent on the charts during the Winter. I doubt it would be a hit at all, but I think it could get higher than "I Got Your Country Right Here," which was a terrible single choice.

I wouldn't be surprised if they locked Swift out of the nominations for that reason. I don't agree with this. I find that it is about 50/50. Look at Country Album. The last two years it was Taylor Swift and George Strait. Before that, you have to go back to 2003 when The Chicks won for Home to find a very commercial winner. Vince Gill, The Dixie Chicks, & Allison Krauss all won in between that with albums that sold well, but had absolutely no radio support. Also, with the Female Country Category, in 2002, 2004, & 2006, artists who are no longer mainstream won. In the Men's Category, from about 2000-2005, the award went to songs that were not hits. So I think the whole thing is a mixed bag. I do like that in the Female Category this year 3 of the 5 songs were not big hits, so anything goes!!!

I just want to see Carrie win, but I'm sure Miranda will.
Fortunately, I'm fine with that, because Miranda's year was fantastic and THTBM is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. Miranda WILL win Country Album. I'm pretty much certain on that. Song of the Year? Doubt it because that's not the kind of song that the Grammys will give it to. Country Song? Most likely. Female Country Vocal? It's a race between her and Carrie.

This is obviously Miranda's time to win.....I wish Carrie would've gotten more than one nom....but Carrie already has 5 Grammys, I wouldn't be upset if she lost, because THTBM is an amazing vocal and well deserving of a Grammy win.

Personally I think if there's a female artist who got snubbed it was Kellie Pickler. Her vocals on "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You" are the best for any female vocalist this year, IMHO. She really deserves more recognition.
But yeah, I really want Miranda to win; "The House That Built Me" is just incredible.

Kellie Pickler never gets nominated for anything, which is sad, because she has some good material out there....its basically Miranda vs. Carrie...will be excited to see if Miranda's winning streak extends to the Grammys.

Well im a big carrie fan but Im pretty sure that if gretchen and jewel had been nominated over carrie, you would be just as angry as i am now. The same way how you were furious that carrie wasnt nominated for entertainer of the year at the cmas. I dont want to rant but this reba grammy snub thing has been goin on for YEARS. Even when her voice was at her prime, with songs like YOU LIE and for my broken heart, she never won anything for them. Its really sad and dissapointing to see reba work so hard, and then get nothing in return for her accomplishments.

Didn't she win like 2 of them? For "Whoever's In New England" and "Does He Love You"?

Yes she did, reba has been in the music industry for 35 years and has only won 2 grammys and had only 15 nominations, while carrie has been in it for 5 years and has won 5, and taylor has been in it for 4 years and won 4. Do you see the difference? I know people are just gonna look at my comments and think that im bitter and should just get over it, and i know i cant change it but it has gone on WAY TOO long.

I was disappointed to see Lady A land an AOTY nom in the general field for the "country album slot." It should have gone to Miranda. I agree that Need You Now was huge and deserved it's noms but the album wasn't all that terrific. However, I actually think Lady A has a shot to win. The country music voting block will be strong. It gave Taylor her win last year and I certainly think Lady A is a much stronger act than Taylor.
Happy to see Jewel's and LeeAnn's name down in the country categories. Rooting for ZBB in the group field. Probably will be a strong general album contender next year if eligible (not sure when the album was released this fall).

I agree that Need You Now was huge and deserved it's noms but the album wasn't all that terrific. +1 I'm disappointed too. Miranda definitely deserved it, but I knew that the Grammys would pick the commercial album over the quality album, so I wasn't too shocked or surprised. I suppose that gives Lady A the advantage for the 'Best Country Album' award, but I'm hoping the voters realize that Revolution is the stronger album. As for Best Female Country Vocal, well I'm surprised Reba didn't get nominated, but at the end of the day Miranda is taking the award, so it doesn't really matter who else is nominated. I'm pleased for Jewel, though.

I don't personally think Kellie's vocal beats out anything that did get nominated, but I'm still surprised she hasn't gotten a nomination at the ACM's or the CMA's yet, I thought last year after 3 top 20's and a decent selling album she'd get in over Martina who wasn't selling all that well. I guess Martina's tour helped her get in over Kellie, also they're on the same label family, so I'm sure the label was more interested in getting Martina another nomination.

Ohhhh, ok! I agree with that too though, but I was directly mentioning the Grammy category based on its focus on a "Vocal" performance rather than just a song. For that, I'd say that Kellie Pickler's "DYKHMILY" blew everyone out of the water, IMHO.

Well I meantioned that too lol, I don't personaly think she blew everyone out, I think the five that got nominated were more or less the right choices. I was also saying that while I don't personally think she should've gotten a nomination for the Grammy, I do think she was somewhat snubbed at the ACM's and the CMA's.
