'Etta James was a force to be reckoned with. A true gift to music and a woman of great spirit and courage.
Her raw tone and the passion she put forth on a record spoke to me at a very young age and has continued to influence and inspire me throughout my career. She will NEVER be forgotten, her voice will forever live on and she will inspire talent for generations to come'. Christina Aguilera

Some updates!!! PostPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 3:48 pm Post subject: Xtina Feat. Eminem Allegedly CONFIRMED?! Posted by Angelic on January 22, 2012 • Filed under: Untitled New Album 2011 1) Confirmed by someone is Christina’s camp, not Em’s. 2) It’s supposedly a “darker” song. Just because it’s Christina doesn’t necessarily mean it will be a highly pop song. She’s been known to dip her toes in other genres. To me “pop” would be Katy Perry ft. Kanye West “ET,” or BoB ft. Lil Wayne “Strange Clouds.” Em has never been featured on or made any tracks like that. This Christina track will be a very emotionally-driven, darker, most likely piano-emphasized beat with strong lyrics. Appreciate good music. ^ She got "massive promo" for Bionic, too, though. She hit almost every big promotional platform that was available at the time of the album's release - American Idol, Oprah, the MTV Movie Awards, Regis & Kelly, The Today Show, The Early Show, Behind The Music, Storytellers...lack of promotion was not one of Bionic's problems. People just didn't connect with the material or the image she was projecting. Hopefully things are different this time around.

People just didn't connect with the material or the image she was projecting. Hopefully things are different this time around. Eh. I disagree. Doing a few TV shows doesn't equal "massive promo" to me. "Not Myself Tonight" came out, and then her label didn't even bother to push any of the other singles. How would people know what the album sounded like if radio didn't support her? Let's face it, she's been out for over a decade; she NEEDS that promo to get herself out there if people are going to buy her music along with the "hot" stars of the moment. You can't put anything out there with no promo and expect it to sell well. People aren't going to buy her album based on a few morning shows and a VH1 Special; radio basically dropped her after NMT, and no one probably even remembered she had new music out. You can't except casual fans to buy anything when you put out an album every 4 years & there are new stars emerging every 10 minutes. I also don't think it helped that so much controversy surrounded her in 2010; the divorce, rumors of an affair with Matt, the "flop" of "Bionic," the weight gain and clown makeup, the cancellation of the "Bionic" tour, and not to mention the anthem fiasco. Let's not forget everyone and their mother accused her of copying Lady Gaga with the NMT video, and they kept talking during the release of "Bionic." As silly as it sounds, I honestly think most people thought it'd be better to ignore Christina than support her, because everything went wrong; she had no positive press from the time "Bionic" was released up until the start of "The Voice." Yeah, the material on "Bionic" wasn't the best, but people act like it's the worst album ever, without listening to it. The ballads were among some of her best ever in terms of quality, and I'd argue 90%% of the uptempos could've been hits for other artists, but the writing was on the wall once radio failed to support NMT. It's also well-documented Christina had a different vision for "Bionic," but her producers made her go back and record more "radio friendly" tracks; she also wanted "Little Dreamer," "Monday Morning, & "Birds Of Prey as singles (all of which ended up being bonus tracks). Her label didn't promote her singles, and she had an entire of year bad press, plus she was accused of being a Gaga "clone" (she had the vision for "Bionic" before Gaga was on the scene). Everything just snowballed; Christina AND her label share equal blame here, IMO.

Her doing Not Myself Tonight on Oprah was a horrible decision. She should've did You Lost Me instead because her audience caters to that kind of sound.
Now as for the Eminem collabo I can see something in vein of Castle Walls. Very dark, but still beat and synth driven.

Doing a few TV shows doesn't equal "massive promo" to me. In what universe are the shows I listed not "massive promo?" ??? American Idol, Oprah, the MTV Movie Awards, the majority of the morning talk shows - that is some major promo. There really wasn't much else she could have done. So, let me repeat myself - lack of promotion was not one of Bionic's problems. As I said, people just didn't connect with the material or the image she was projecting at the time; there's no getting around that. All of that has been said time and time again, and it's water under the bridge at this point. As a whole, the era was mishandled, yes, but her promo was pretty great. That was/is my point.

I agree. They chose the wrong songs to promote at different platforms. Lack of promotion should never be put into question with this album. It was least of her problems. If she would've chosen different songs for the correct audience she would've easily cleared 500K with no problem. They decided instead to beat a dead horse and drag it along for most of the ride of the promo circuit. For the MTV Awards medley I would've at least brought Nicki Minaj out for her verse during Woohoo for an added WOW factor. Bionic is that album to me where I'm hearing all of these great album tracks that easily could've been better singles than what was chosen. Monday Morning I would've had on TV ads for days. It just has that sound that would go great promo for shows. Gossip Girl I believe is on Mondays and it would've been perfect for that kind of market. Lift Me Up was tailor-made for Top 40, HOT AC and Triple A. She had a great platform to launch that song too. The Haiti telethon. My beloved Elastic Love deserved to see the light of day. So deserved it.

I don't think anything could have changed the way the "Bionic" ended up. Whether people want to admit it or not, the Lady GaGa comparisons and bad press killed that era. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't blame RCA for pulling the plug on it after those dismal album sales.

In any case, she seems to have a decent amount of goodwill and positive buzz going into the upcoming era. I just hope she doesn't squander it. She needs to come back hard.

I refuse to relive the mismanagement of Bionic. There was no reason for that album to have bombed but I do believe they have learned their lesson and will get this era right.

Of course Christina holds some responsibility, but it's been made pretty clear that "Bionic" didn't turn out the way she had wished, with her remarks about the singles and how it has been discussed the label made her scrap some of the album to add a more radio-friendly material. Who knows how the album would've done with Christina's vision, but I do hope they learned their lesson; let Christina follow her gut, because it has always worked before this.
And I still by my statement that RCA could've done a much better with getting Christina better promo spots. Their promo was sloppy, because they clearly didn't try to push any single to after NMT. Christina's a valuable artist, she could've had several hits off the album, but she didn't because RCA didn't promote her songs or send her on tour to sell her album.
Honestly, I think they made a mistake sending "Lift Me Up" after NMT; I think great uptempo like "Vanity" or "Bionic," and even "Whohoo" could've taken off, had they given it proper promotion and built up the Nicki hype; she's huge right now, it could've smashed had the label played their cards right.
I can't even start with the ballads; they were probably the best of her career, and the label didn't even push or promote them after they became singles.
I do think the overprocessed/electro pop sound was too much of a departure of what most people expect from her; it was so overprocessed at times you could hardly separate her voice from the layers of autotune. She has made a name for herself because of her voice, and I'd think it'd serve her well to go back to that, to remind people why she's so great.
I think it's just a shame everyone basically ditched her for Gaga, and avoided her album once all the drama exploded. And everyone is saying "she" should've chosen better singles; that is the label's responsibility, and they won out here if reports are true Christina wanted all the BONUS TRACKS as singles. The fact that they didn't make the album tells me part of the reason the album failed WAS because the label screwed up, in more ways in one. She has millions of fans across the world, and she seems very popular overseas; I'm sure she could've toured/promoted the album somewhere, it's not like she has no fans left.
In any case, it should do wonders for her now that "The Voice" has become a hit, and all the personal drama is out of the way. Xtina needs to dress in some decent clothes, lose the Snooki tan and platinum blonde hair and she'd be on her way....and of course she needs to keep her promise this album will be "Stripped Part 2" and she should be on the right track...in my mind anyway.

I was just watching Burlesque Sun. I liked the movie and hadn't seen it before even owning the soundtrack. No she wasn't the best actress and a couple of times I even chuckled. It wasn't bad though. I can't wait for her new song to leak because she is becoming one of my top go to artists. It has always been Whitney, Donna and Mariah. Rihanna XTina and Beyonce are my next favorites. Anyways, Is there any chance she may get to premire this on The Voice?

Wow if that is true I am happy for her. Christina basically started her career honoring Etta and connecting to her music. I feel like she gets Etta more than other people who try to cover her.
