Best Whitney Houston album? My personal favorites are My Love Is Your Love, I'm Your Baby Tonight, and Whitney. All of her songs on The Bodyguard soundtrack are perfection so I'd add that as another favorite. I love the I Look To You album as well.

Top 250 Female Singers of the 20th Century Let’s Look at Some of the Best Singers of All Time As a singer, I have been obsessing about vocalists since before I started grade school. The obsession started with Whitney Houston, Julie Andrews, Andrea McArdle, and Crystal Gayle. All of them had such different voices and I studied them meticulously. Now, as an adult I am a songwriter, performer and vocal teacher and want to learn even more. I know there are voices that I haven't heard that deserve to be remembered. Researching each decade of the 20th century helped me discover some of these lost blues singers, musical theatre performers, and pop stars from yesteryear. This list was helped in part by the following web sites: Rate Your Music, Wikipedia, Past perfect, Amazon, Cynamans, UGO, Listverse, Rocklist, Essence, Timout, Acclaimed Music, and Youtube. I hope that you enjoy discovering new singers and fighting about who should really be in the top 50. 250. Jennifer Lopez 249. Janet Jackson 248. Tiffany 247. Shirley Temple 246. Ginger Rogers 245. 12/31 2013 ABC names Whitney Houston ‘Greatest Woman in Music’ during ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’
It could happen -The first two hours of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on ABC Tuesday night was all about counting down the 30 Greatest Women in Music, and there were a number of notable women on this list. You had the likes of Lady Gaga, Cher, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and so many more, and of the names that we did mention here, the crazy thing is that none of them were even in the top ten.
But who did the show opt to put in the #1 spot? A little over a year after her tragic passing, Whitney Houston was given the prestigious honor, as a performance of her smash hit “I Will Always Love You” played in the background. It’s hard to really argue too much when it comes to her selection, even though there was never really any criteria as to how she ended up getting this honor over some of the other singers on the show.
Full list 30. Karen Carpenter 29. Gwen Stefani 28. Celine Dion 27. Chaka Khan 26. Lady Gaga 25. Pat Benatar 24. Shania Twain 23. Cher 22. Adele 21. Gloria Estefan 20. Katy Perry 19. Cyndi Lauper 18. P!nk 17. Gladys Knight 16. Donna Summer 15. Alicia Keys 14. Rihanna 13. Dolly Parton 12. Christina Aguilera 11. Janet Jackson 10. Blondie 9. Taylor Swift 8. Mariah Carey 7. Annie Lennox 6. Diana Ross 5. Madonna 4. Beyonce 3. Aretha Franklin 2. Tina Turner 1. Whitney Houston

250. Jennifer Lopez 5. Mariah Carey 4. Christina Aguilera 3. Whitney Houston2. Aretha Franklin 1. Ella Fitzgerald This list is crap. Sorry to go off topic a bit but WTF @ #4. Whitney's name should not be nose gazing that garbage. Also, #250 or not, J. Lo's inclusion further proves to negate any validation.

I've seen this list shared around the Internet a few times, and I guess people think it's some kind of "official" ranking because it's on Yahoo. It's part of Yahoo's contributor network though, and anyone can post articles on it. I could sign in and do my own list right now.

I don't even know what to say to this, other than I hope he signed a pre-nup. She is going to be 21 in March and will be getting the first part of her inheritance, so this so-called marriage to Nick doesn't really surprise me. She must be too naive to see between the lines.

Lol at Janet Jackson being higher on the list than Donna Summer. Well I guess it's not the greatest female voices in music but, still. I just hate when I see lipsyncing weak voices over a powerhouse vocalist. BTW I love Janet's music and have seen her 3 times in concert.

Oh, Whitney.. :(
Arsenio Hall Brought to Tears Talking About His Friend Whitney Houston
Arsenio Hall found himself moved to tears while interviewing Tika Sumpter on his talk show on Wednesday.
Hall, who was a longtime friend of Whitney Houston's, asked the 33-year-old what it was like working with "The Voice" on her last film Sparkle, which came out after she died in 2012.
"Whitney was everything," said Sumpter, who played the Grammy winner's daughter. "You'd be sitting in a corner, and I'd be just kind of quiet, they'd be changing for the set-up and she's like, 'You okay, baby? Who do I need to talk to to make sure you're all right?' And I'm like, 'I'm good' and she's like, 'All right, I got you.' She was just like a mother."
There was something about Sumpter's spot-on impersonation of the troubled singer that got to Hall. "Now I'm really missing Whitney," he said. "You hit it. You hit those beats so perfectly. She sticks with you, huh?"
Looking emotional and at somewhat of a loss for words, Hall tried to move on and talk about Tyler Perry's The Haves and Have Nots, which Sumpter is starring in on OWN, but he paused and went back to Houston, saying, "She was a great girl … and she would love that I'm doing this again," he said of his revived talk show, which Houston had guested on several times in the '90s. "She was always a big supporter, good friend," he added, and then joked about having to edit his emotional moment out of the broadcast.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to make you cry," said Sumpter, grabbing his hand.
"It's this good thing," Hall responded. "It's this deep love for her."

Houston's smash hit "I Will Always Love You," from the soundtrack to The Bodyguard, earned her record of the year, album of the year and best female pop vocal performance. Even "A Whole New World," the perennially beloved ballad from Disney's Aladdin, was no match for Houston's powerhouse pipes. In fact, Houston's only loss that night was in the female R&B vocal category, which Toni Braxton won for "Another Sad Love Song." Houston, then 30, also opened the ceremony with a stunning rendition of "I Will Always Love You." Footage of that performance was replayed 18 years later at the 2012 Grammys, just one day after Houston's untimely death at age 48. Dolly Parton, who wrote the song and released the original version on her 1974 album Jolene, presented the best female pop vocal award with David Foster, who produced Houston's track. "On behalf of myself and the Internal Revenue Service, I'd like to thank Whitney for making my song such an enormous hit," Parton quipped. "When I wrote that song 22 years ago, I had a heartache. But it's amazing how healing money can be." Watch Houston accept all three major awards: And watch her perform "I Will Always Love You" at the Grammys:

Did the expanded re-issues of "Whitney" and "Bodyguard SDTK" just die on the vine? I was really looking forward to those! Didn't they get scrapped in favor of I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston? Since then only a live compilation was rumored if I recall well...

But either way, it'll be interesting, yet sad, to see what she'll be asked walking down the red carpet, and to also see her at these events without her mother. I just....

Clive Davis says new live album will be released this year.
Music industry executive Clive Davis is working on an album of Whitney Houston's live performances
By Randy Lewis January 24, 2014, 6:00 a.m.
Clive Davis typically has many irons in many fires. So even though he's holed up in an elegant Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow he's had at his disposal "forever" — fielding phone calls, e-mails and, yes, even faxes while organizing the annual pre-Grammy Awards bash he's again hosting at the Beverly Hilton Hotel — the veteran producer and record executive makes a point of talking about a project especially close to his heart: a Whitney Houston live album.
"Whitney never had a live album," he said. "I really want everyone to know ... exactly why during her time she was considered the greatest contemporary singer in the world.
It was two years ago, on the afternoon of his Grammy eve bash, that he and the rest of the world got the word that Houston died in the very hotel where the party was being readied.
"It's a revelation to hear her," he said, "but listening to her, the tragedy hits you again, so there are a lot of mixed emotions this brings up.
"I'm going through all these recordings of her performances now, many of which I wasn't at, such as when she was in South Africa," said Davis, 81, dressed business casual this week in a navy V-neck sweater over a white oxford shirt and tie. "It's a revelation: You really hear how astonishing and powerful and compelling she was in a way that wasn't captured on the studio albums or in her movie performances."
Davis said he expects the album to be released this year. He hinted that he might just preview it by playing a video clip for his industry audience on Saturday, which will be attended by heavy hitters from the entertainment industry including Metallica, Gladys Knight, Quincy Jones and Napster founder Sean Parker, to name a few.

It's about time they release something. I get so tired of buying the same things over and over again. I mean, how many copies of JUST WHITNEY can one person own?

I'm here for the live album. Some they'll most likely include are: One Moment In Time (Grammys) IWALY (Grammys) I Have Nothing (Billboard Awards) Didn't We Almost Have It All (the one used as the music video) I Loves You Porgy/And I Am Telling You/I Have Nothing (AMAs) I hope 'Why Does It Hurt So Bad' at the MTV Movie Awards makes it too. It's probably my favorite Nippy performance EVER :'(

I'm thinking we get some regular tour performances too. Hopefully not just the usual hits but something more obscure as Lover For Live for example.

Clive showed the amazing '94 AMA performance during his pre-grammy party on Saturday night. I think this is a sign it'll be remastered and definitely included on the upcoming live album! From USA Today: www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2014/01/26/clive-davis-pre-grammy-gala/4864773/After Davis returned once again to his podium to praise Lorde, he grew hushed as he told the thinned-out crowd, "I'm the keeper of the flame for Whitney Houston. She was the greatest ... and I don't want the world to forget that." At that, he teed up a three-song Houston medley from the 1994 American Music Awards. As Houston sang from the past, those still in the same hotel where the singer died hours before Davis' 2012 party could only stare and applaud. Another reference from RollingStone.com: The show wasn't over, although much of the audience was leaving: Davis declared, "I'm the keeper of the flame of Whitney Houston," and said that he had been listening to her concert performances to compile a live album. He closed the show with a ten-minute video of Houston singing on the American Music Awards in 1994 – just in case anyone in the audience didn't have YouTube access.
