Its smashing across Europe. Could do reasonably well in the US I think That isn't saying much given Take That have exploded across most of the European continent as well and they are utterly ignored here. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus I don't necessarily think it's going to be a hit in the States, but Adele and Take That are very clearly in completely different situations.

During her debut era, when I heard "Chasing Pavements", I thought she was already an above-average vocalist............but in spite of all the hype surrounding her artistry, I wasn't entirely sold then in that she was the real deal as an artist destined to stand the tests of time from the sophomore era and beyond. I felt she had the technical skill crossed to a T, but her voice still needed some greater emotional depth to it to make her stand out amidst the crowd of Duffys and Winehouses. She has exceeded my expectations and wildest hopes with "Rolling In The Deep". Here, not only does her voice embody a wide range of devastation, sensuality and urgency..........but she sounds so confident, you can easily mistake her as a seasoned road veteran going on deep into the second or third decade of ones performing career. She is THAT good, and folk/country music isn't even what Adele soaked up in her musical upbringing................which makes this recording all the more flawless. Musically it's just as compelling in its texture and emotional force. The militant drumbeat that drives the pre-chorus, in particular, is alluring and keeps the track sounding just as passionate as it is pensive. Tragically, Mainstream Top 40 will only touch this with a thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot-pole if it becomes a massive iTunes smash and garners numerous accolades. It would never stand a chance on this format on its own extraordinary merit, and even with the aforementioned boost, I don't see this peaking above #25 at best. Shame, because this is by far one of the best singles of 2010, which in truth actually feels more like a proper 2011 release. I am now convinced, especially after hearing the remainder of "21", that Adele will have a successful recording career lasting well beyond this era............and deservedly so.............no thanks to this particular format. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus :worship:

This needs to do well. Adele is so talented, and America is seemingly the only country that doesn't fully realize this. This song is smashing all over Europe and it's selling well on iTunes. If it makes top fifty I'd call it an overachiever.
Hopefully "Set Fire to the Rain" gets released next.

Plus, taking into account it's #1 on Triple A & Top 25 on HAC (and still climbing), it looks likely that pop will at least give it some play. ^^

I couldn't help but think how much Adele would have slayed if she performed this last night right before her album is released stateside. I'm sure she'll get her chance next year. 21 should be one of the early frontrunners for next year's Grammys.

I remember 3 years ago on this forum, a couple of posters laughed at me when I said that she is on par with Amy as far as talent goes and both of them are head and shoulder above Duffy.
Who wants to disagree with me now?

Who wants to disagree with me now? Ok, I wouldn't say she's on par with Amy, Amy is #1 without a doubt. 3 years ago I liked Duffy more because her singles were better/catchier. I never really got into adele until now. It's surprising how Adele is big now and not just in UK while Duffy flopped.

Damn she just missed out on her second top 40 hit this week... RITD moves from 64 to 41 on the Hot 100 this week.

Who wants to disagree with me now? Her material is far better on this album. There were obviously some standouts on 19 (Hometown Glory, Make You Feel My Love), but I feel like most of 21 is brilliant. Adele is in a whole different league with this record. She's always had the voice though. I prefer her vocals over Duffy or Winehouse any day.

OMFG! This is #18 on iTunes right now! If it weren't for Glee and the Grammy's she'd be even higher

She so far eclipses Amy, it's a joke. Hometown Glory and Someone Like You are far better songs than Amy has ever written or released, and Adele's voice is a far more powerful and evocative instrument than Amy's. As for Duffy, the less said the better.

She's up to #11 on iTunes! This is incredible and a good sign that more stateside support may be imminent this era. As for the comparisons to Amy and Duffy, I like her better than the latter and about equal to Amy at her best. I'd rank the releases of the three as follows: 1. Back to Black2. 21 (but it's very close to BTB for me) 3. 19 and Rockferry (TIE) 4. Frank5. Endlessly
