During her debut era, when I heard "Chasing Pavements", I thought she was already an above-average vocalist............but in spite of all the hype surrounding her artistry, I wasn't entirely sold then in that she was the real deal as an artist destined to stand the tests of time from the sophomore era and beyond. I felt she had the technical skill crossed to a T, but her voice still needed some greater emotional depth to it to make her stand out amidst the crowd of Duffys and Winehouses. She has exceeded my expectations and wildest hopes with "Rolling In The Deep". Here, not only does her voice embody a wide range of devastation, sensuality and urgency..........but she sounds so confident, you can easily mistake her as a seasoned road veteran going on deep into the second or third decade of ones performing career. She is THAT good, and folk/country music isn't even what Adele soaked up in her musical upbringing................which makes this recording all the more flawless. Musically it's just as compelling in its texture and emotional force. The militant drumbeat that drives the pre-chorus, in particular, is alluring and keeps the track sounding just as passionate as it is pensive. Tragically, Mainstream Top 40 will only touch this with a thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot-pole if it becomes a massive iTunes smash and garners numerous accolades. It would never stand a chance on this format on its own extraordinary merit, and even with the aforementioned boost, I don't see this peaking above #25 at best. Shame, because this is by far one of the best singles of 2010, which in truth actually feels more like a proper 2011 release. I am now convinced, especially after hearing the remainder of "21", that Adele will have a successful recording career lasting well beyond this era............and deservedly so.............no thanks to this particular format. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus Great review.

It's in the I Am Number Four trailer. Good call. I completely forgot that I've heard this on television. I was wondering if word of mouth was propelling this or what.

I think part of it has to do with the album release too. The Script's single shot up iTunes the week the album came out. I actually just saw multiple ads for 21 during the VH1 Top 20 this morning.
Video was #3 btw. :)

Someone like You #1 in UK while Rolling In The Deep is #4. Plus, "21" is #1 on albums and 19 is top 5.

This got 1 add by WNCI (rank #36). Hopefully it will start giving it some spins and a few more stations will jump on board? An adds date for Middle-Late March would be nice.

Money talks. Maybe the big opening week for the album and strong digital sales of the single will get this some airplay. This is my hope. "Rolling in the Deep" deserves success on this format and it's absolutely the most CHR-friendly track she's released to date.

I bought the album yesterday, and it's sooooooo amazing!!!!! I am partial to soul though, so if you don't like soul then I can understand not feeling Adele.
I do think, if the label can get this song off the ground at CHR, they should follow up with Rumour Has It.

Finally listened to this. I'm not sold on the song but her voice is obviously amazing. I get chills when she sings. So much emotion.

^I think that she's in over her head (in a relationship I think) - haven't listened to this much, though, so I'm not sure

Adele said "rolling in the deep" is a twist of a phrase in England called roll deep. Which means someone has your back, your part of a team, and no one else could affect you. So rolling in the deep means that they could have had it easy if they stayed together.

Best vocalist in the last decade hands down. She even has a stronger voice than Christina Aguilera IMO.

There doesn't appear to be much movement yet for this on CHR. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Anyway, it's up to #26 on the Hot 100 and #3 on iTunes. Likely to pass "Chasing Pavements" Hot 100 peak next week. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif)

Let's leave Beyonce out of this group. She doesn't deserve to have her name mentioned with these women and their vocal ability ;)
