Sirius reported via Rolling Stone that the band is going into the studio before spring to record an EP and a video. It was supposedly meant to be a surprise, but somebody within the Metallica crew spilled the beans.
EDIT : MODIFIED BAND

Actually, Metallica has talked about it on several sites recently. They said not to call it a Metallica release though, it's "something else" apparently. www.fmqb.com/article.asp?id=2107784

It'd be awesome to get new music from them. It's been quite a while since Death Magnetic.

I appears to be a collaboration with Lou Reed on a full album. This could be awkward.

I'd even say when Burton left is when Metallica changed.

I'd even say when Burton left is when Metallica changed. That's valid though I think there are enough traces of him on ...And Justice For All to say that was part of his era. I'm glad that the original post had it through 2000 because S&M is an AWESOME album. And you saying that Burton "left" is probably not the proper way to put it.

Apparently it had been going on for awhile. The scandal! How dare they cheat on us metal fans with art rock! I want a divorce!

The real Metallica (1983-2000) Don't be dumb. Death Magnetic was amazing. Exactly. I hate when people say that. My old friend listened to Death Magnetic and said "No, this isn't the real Metallica anymore, I know because I grew up listening to them and they're fantastic, this is terrible." I don't understand. xD It sounds just like their old stuff to me. Lmao.

I have to admit though, I make fun of Metallica occasionally with friends though, especially on songs like "All Nightmare Long". While it's one of my favorites, some parts of it do seem like they're trying to throw big 3 or 4-syllable words out there to sound smart, or just to sound "powerful" like DESTRUCTION.
So my friends and I would joke and be like CASTRATION. EMANCIPATION. MENSTRUATION.
Yeah. xD

Death Magnetic was a nice rebound. But I'm not sure it will ever hold up against Puppets and anything before it.

"All Nightmare Long" always seems to be the one people agree as the most obvious 'return to form' or whatever, and I never understood it because I always hated that song, even back when I liked other songs on Death Magnetic. Really, what did anyone find appealing in those "Night mare looooong"s?
Not sure what to think of a collaboration with a musician who has consistently never been a favorite of mine. There may be a neat ballad or something--once upon a time these guys were coming up with stuff like "Perfect Day" and "Fade to Black", after all--but otherwise I have 0 expectations.

"All Nightmare Long" is my favorite from the record. Me too. From a riffage standpoint, it's one of the juiciest.

That's what they're calling themselves, anyway, according to the DJ on Sirius. I would've gone with MetalliLou myself. I doubt they have a moniker for the album yet.

The DJ probably cracked a joke about the collaboration. Trust me, they aren't calling theirselves 'Loutallica.'
