Well we will see how their label and radio names them. I bet $50 the album won't say Loutallica.

The album could say Lou Reed And Metallica in big bright neon letters and Artie will still swear up and down he was right all along. It's best not to even argue with him. Only reason I even commented on his post is because for some reason his posts were unblocked to me. I soon fixed that.

Considering that these are the very same gents who dropped St. Anger less than a decade ago, I think Metallica is fully capable of naming this project something that laughable. The idea of this collaboration itself has to be approached with a bit of a sense of humor even if there's a chance that they could pull this off in a very artistic way. My bet is that this is going to be St. Anger pt. 2 as far as negative fan reaction goes.

They do have sense of humor about these things. I think the lesson learned here by DJ-0 is don't go spouting things as facts when in reality it's the opposite. I do agree that fans will not warm to this collaboration. I am interested to say the least to how this turns out, even though "The View" seems a little underwhelming.

Heard it 3 times over the weekend. Still not overly impressed, but it's off to a decent start.

This sounds more like a mashup rather than a legit collaboration, and not a very good mashup at that. I actually had some hopes for this project, but so far it sounds like they're as much of a mismatch as people feared.

I don't have a problem with the artists getting together as much as the concept of the album, as more details emerge. I think they will find a sound that fits mixes well, but I don't think the subject matter will interest anyone except the artists involved.

Yes let's. ;) Sympathy sex is awesome for the person that receives it (Lou) and sucks for the other person (in this case pretty much every music fan in the world.)

Sometimes funky experiments like this can work... Rebel Meets Rebel, anyone? This just sounds like a train wreck, though.

This description helped me understand a lot more what you meant by the initial comment. I thought you were just saying that sympathy sex was the worst thing you could fathom. Out of curiosity, what is Metallica sympathetic toward Lou Reed about? With hipster culture blooming, his legendary status carries more weight than ever before, as befuddling as it is to me.

Befuddled? Please check out Velvet Underground & Nico's Andy Warhol album. One of my top 20 ever.
As for Hetfield, he nailed it on Gov't Mule's "Drivin' Rain."

I wouldn't have a clue, I've never heard any of his work, although being a hipster representative dosn't exactly fill me with high expectations. Metallica has released fantastic work before which leads me to the prephaps (although i'm not at all convinced) premature conclusion that anyone who churns out muisc that is as terrible as this must have the musical talent of Rebecca Black.

Well Metallica's Load, Reload, and especially St. Anger weren't exactly universal hits among Metallica fans. So they've shown that they are perfectly capable of recording albums all by themselves that give their fans consternation over the past decade and a half. While I don't think Lou Reed fits well on "The View", I find Metallica's contributions equally laughable. And while I don't find Lou Reed to be the immense talent that he's made out to be in the indie community, I think he's better than these results would indicate, and you will (rightfully) incur the wrath of indie fans and hipsters everywhere for comparing him to Rebecca Black.

Good, maybe they'll get better musical taste then. ;)

I'm by no means a Lou Reed buff, but David's blissfully ignorant disrespect of a legendary career that's had an immeasurable impact on the Alternative format is inexcusable.

As you rightly pionted out ignorance is bliss. Look I'm sure there is a valid reason for his succes and I'm sure he does have decent music but as to how anyone could consider this song to be anything but horrible is beyond me. I'm not (intentionally) maliciously bashing Loud reed because Metallica is just as responsible for this song as he is, i'm just more inclinded to blame him because i've never heard of him before.
