That's what they're calling themselves, anyway, according to the DJ on Sirius. I would've gone with MetalliLou myself. I doubt they have a moniker for the album yet. I do not see why it matters what they are called....

I'm with everyone here saying that was pretty bad.

I hope to see this, Anthrax, and Megadeth all camped out in the top 20 on Active radio for a while this fall.

I hope to see this die a slow painful death.

Wait, how does a single suffer a slow death? The longer it sticks around, the more success it enjoys.

I think it will be a quick death. In fact my guess is that this will be like "St. Anger" but on a much lower scale in that its first week airplay will be its highest, and its airplay total will start to dip as soon as it has a non-zero number in the last week column. I imagine that almost the entire active rock panel has played this song once in the last week (it's new Metallica, duh). So the fact that it's only amassed 80-something plays tells me that a large portion of the stations on the panel tested it once or twice and then dumped it. But we shall see. I say on a much lower scale than "St. Anger" because I think it will fall from roughly a #30 debut/peak on Billboard rather than #2.

So you think it'll peak where it debuts? I think it could reach near the Top 20 while fizzling out on the way. Once it peaks, it won't last longer than 3 weeks on the chart. Alternative probably won't touch this.
Predicted chart run: 38 - 31 - 29 - 27 - 26 - 23 - 25 - 32 - 40/off

Ironically, this is probably the most Alternative song on radio right now.

I guess the robotic drone of Reed's voice, the unconventional kicking into double-time midsong, but mostly the anti-establishment / anti-radio theory of putting this album and single together. It just reminds me of what Modern music used to be.

But it debuted at #2, but it was so universally hated, and if my memory serves me right, it never regained its bullet. I think the percentage of radio listeners who actually listen through this song is so low after more than one or two curiosity listens, that radio stations would lose ratings by continuing to keep this in rotation. When "St. Anger" dropped, Metallica ruled the rock world on a much larger scale now, an absolute dynasty which that single/album singlehandedly dismantled. They're still obviously a big deal, but the combination of apathy and laughablility towards this project is palpable, and lackluster opening numbers support that further. I would look more for a chart run similar to "Shotgun" by Limp Bizkit.

I think this has a chance at growing once listeners get over the initial shock. I also think this song needs to be taken in context with the entire CD.

Not to be premature here, but the song did get bumped out of the top 50 today. Unfortunately for Lou Reed and Metallica, I have a good feeling I'm gonna win this one.

My station, for all intents and purposes, actually re-added "St. Anger" and plays it occasionally. Not surprisingly, the DJs insult it every time they play it.

I think this album and St. Anger were just Metallica's way of showing they were above following rules and guidlines. Good for them.
