Really? I've had it on my mp3 player but Fair To Midland has had my undivided attention. Maybe I'll have to switch gears. Edit - Oops. Misread that. Anyway, it's probably their most consistent record but it's missing an IT song. Could have used another rocker.

Also, I finally got a chance to listen to the full album minus the bonus track. Solid stuff. I'd probably place it 2nd overall? Second? No way. I'd put it ahead of their last album, but marginally below "Seventeen Days." I would agree that it could have done with a few more rockers. The title track could be considered the "it" song, though. 1. "The Better Life" 2. "Away from the Sun" 3. "Seventeen Days" 4. "Time of My Life" 5. "3 Doors Down"

I've listened to about two thirds of it now on the way home, and while it's not better than their first two albums, I like it more already than the next two. I totally agree that "Heaven" needs to be the next single, and I actually hadn't heard "When You're Young" until now, so upon listening I'm surprised it was even considered for a single. "Every Time You Go" is easily every bit more of a standout. For further singles I would pick "Round And Round" over "Time Of My Life" for a good rock single.

"3 Doors Down" ...Below Seventeen Days, are you flippin' mad? There are good songs but there are definitely some damn forgettable/skippable songs off that record too. I wouldn't skip anything off Time of My Life. And yes, I really like the title track there, but Away From the Sun had more of those. Close though. I've listened to about two thirds of it now on the way home, and while it's not better than their first two albums, I like it more already than the next two. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of possible future singles for both directions they could take it. I do prefer When You're Young to Every Time You Go though. Glad someone agrees with my assessment that this is better than the last two records. Call it blasphemous, but my ranking is like so: 1. Away From the Sun 2. Time of My Life 3. The Better Life 4. Seventeen Days 5. 3 Doors Down

Wow. Better than The Better Life? I can't say the same. Too attached to songs like "Down Poison" and "So I Need You". IMO, 3 Doors Down still needs to get that raw edge back to their stuff. I feel like this was a step both in that direction and away from it, like they're trying to straddle both worlds.

I mean, it's not like they're unlistenable but that particular sound isn't exactly my thing. That being said, there were definitely some great songs of The Better Life. In the grand scheme of things, I think I tend to value consistency within a record rather than having really good songs needing to cancel out the forgettable/bad ones. Though I will admit that Time of My Life is a bit more consistent than Away From the Sun. I think that some of the rockier songs off of Time of My Life would have sounded better at a slightly faster tempo. Particularly Race for the Sun.

I think those two are maybe my favorite songs off of that album. But then I was going through kind of a thing when that album came out and those songs really struck me personally. Plus I just love the opening of "So I Need You". It just sucks me in. I think that some of the rockier songs off of Time of My Life would have sounded better at a slightly faster tempo. Particularly Race for the Sun. Yeah, "Race For The Sun" didn't really hit me when I heard it. I have yet to listen to the remaining tracks. I was on "What's Left" when I got out of the car, and I might listen to the rest tonight or save them for tomorrow.

Plus I just love the opening of "So I Need You". It just sucks me in. That'll do it. Not bad songs by any stretch of the imagination though. Yeah, "Race For The Sun" didn't really hit me when I heard it. I have yet to listen to the remaining tracks. I was on "What's Left" when I got out of the car, and I might listen to the rest tonight or save them for tomorrow. I'd say listen to them with fresh ears tomorrow. No big rush. Though I daresay if you're looking for The Better Life-ish sound, you'll like My Way / Believer.

There might however be a small bit of pandaness involved, specifically the kind that is sad. So I shall keep my anticipation in check.

I think "Believer" should be the next single. I just listened to the album for the first time and I can tell that it's going to take a few more listens to really distinguish between tracks, but "Believer" just stuck out to me as being a hit. Also, after hearing all of the new stuff now, I like "Every Time You Go" much more now. It's probably my favorite song on the album thus far, but I still have to get to know the other tracks better.

Believer is one fun tune. I could see it doing well if they go the rock route for a third single.

I'm not real surprised you're in favor of Believer since it sounds like the punkiest tune 3DD has done in a while. Kind of like Smack or Sarah Yellin' in feel. BTW Em, finished the album today. You're right that My Way and Believer were not entirely what I was hoping for, but they were enjoyable nevertheless. I was also slightly impressed by She Is Love, which was a lot better than I was expecting.

Yeah, She Is Love was better than what I'd hoped for too because I was not impressed at all by the previews. Either way, hope there was no sad pandaness.

#1 album of iTunes Rock and Overall Nice. It's the same scenario on iTunes Canada too. Title track is No. 4 on the rock songs chart / 110 overall songs chart here.

Wasn't insulting the album or anything. I just thought they'd open higher.
Even with the lack of promotion, that's still a bit of a drop. They should at least do as much as Incubus did.

Well, if it's any consolation, from the article I read on HDD, it seems like it's a close race at the top; the ones at top are supposed to do 60-65ish. All the other recent albums had better performing lead singles. Every Time You Go isn't helping change matters either since it's still stuck around the 25-26 mark and I don't see this going much higher. Bummer, really.

HDD projects Time of My Life will get No. 3 with a little over 57k. Obviously have to wait for Billboard's numbers.
Dates are gonna be announced soon for the tour with TOAD opening. In other news, *headdesk*

Why 3DD? Why would you tour with TOAD? Why? My only guess is that they want to look ridiculously good by comparison. Well, if there is a date on this tour that works for me, I'll get to earn seeing 3DD by sitting through Theory.
