They can adapt, musically they aren't that far left that they can't. Some of their songs would have fit well on pop radio, but radio is very iffy.

I'm not even sure if they're gonna have a "next album" after the severe under-performance of all of the singles so far. Did this band (along with other similar rock bands) ever get blocked from CC stations? The album sold pretty well early on and they can still ride off the success of their first 2 albums to earn them at least one more, I think.

Well Outta My Head is off the VH1 countdown voting list. I wonder what they are going do next.
I think it is time release start of something good to radio and hopefully they can get a top 10 hit with it.

I agree. To me, it wouldn't mattered what single was released second. IMO SOSG wouldn't have performed much better. It is what it is at this point. *shrug* I agreed So Not!!! It really matters ALOT to have the right single which can connect well with the listeners for better performance in terms of driving the album, single and concert tickets sales!!! AND right from Day 1, SOSG has been and continue to be very popular with fans and non- fans. Likewise for Losing My Mind. If either one was picked instead of OMH -things would have turned out the other way (IMO). For Daughtry still enjoy pretty high profile with the HAC crowds - it is just having the right song to get their full support to move in the right direction. From recent interviews - I sought of understand why OMHwas choosen. It was to have an 'energetic' and 'lively' single to get it going on stage - lol. Well, Chris must be regretting his choice! OMH has 'Killed' the BTS album sales.... And Daughtry do not need to change/adapt/remodel their unique sound really. As long as Chris and the rest are writing songs from their heart - that's all frankly. For me, Daughtry's songs are evergreens which touch the heart with catchy music, meaningful lyrics and sincere vocal. So please release SOSG next! It is still not that late....

How much has this album sold so far? According to Idol Chatter- the latest total sales figure for BTS album is at 451,000 (rounded). It sold about 2,000 (rounded) last week. Keeping my fingers crossed that it could hit 500, 000 by year end. From his recent tweets, Chris seems to be at cloud nine! He should share some of his happiness around by announcing if and when the next single would be released!!! That would make brighten up some misgiving fans around! LoL

Unfortunately, if they want to keep making records they are going to have to find a way to be more mainstream. I don't see it happening. The type of music they (and 3 Doors down and Nickelback) do has fallen completely out of vogue, and for bands like them to come back doing the kind of music that's popular at CHR/Pop right now would just give people more ammunition against bands like them. Nickelback even tried to come back with a single that had a more rhythmic beat, and it bombed. These bands are stuck between a rock and a hard place right now, and I really don't see a way for them to get out of it. It's the kind of issue most of the 80s hair metal bands dealt with once grunge took over at rock radio, and pop listeners completely moved away from those bands. I think that Clear Channel has something to do with Nickelback bombing by having the PDs ban them and other similar bands (maybe even the more pop-punk sounding bands like The All-American Rejects, Boys Like Girls, and Paramore?). There does need to be a third single announced soon; I doubt there's any kind of momentum for them at the moment so maybe "Start of Something Good" could do something.

If RCA records doesn't release Start of Something Good, they are officially the worst label on the planet. I swear that song could be a smash on the level of "Home."

500k isn't that bad for an album that had one decent HAC hit and nothing else.

Start of Something Good and Gone Too Soon seem like they could both do really well on the AC & HAC charts. I can see them both following the same lines as September and Life After You.

Daughtry continue to slide fast into obscurity :( I can see from the current twitter feed that some of their upcomIng concert tickets have been slashed by half, and there are even some Groupon deals as well!!! Going the rock bottom way to move the tickets just prove they are in bad shape:(
I am really interested to find out how 'badly' their accoutics version of 'Rescue Me' is selling? To be honest, I really feel bad for the charity fund which is hoping for some good funding from the sales of this song! I bet they can't even sell enough to recuperate the production and marketing costs.
And I understand that their post game concert (METS) was met with a lukewarm reception??? Was it even televised???
All signs are pointing out that their are quickly becoming marginalised:(
Don't they realise that they need a good radio hit to stay relevant again. Come on - what's the delay with releasing SOSG???

I support releasing Rescue Me to radio next. SOSG lacks something. RM gets me going.

I just watched the 5/2 question video. You know Chris comes off as a nice guy and pretty well spoken but he's a rock guy. He looks like a rock guy. He sounds like a rock guy and he SINGS like a rock guy. I just don't see him being able to soften that image or put some edge into it to make the type of music that HotAC and Pop are playing. And quite honestly, I think it would look like a totally sell out for him to try now. If you look at my posts, I'm a big Rob Thomas fan and I know these guys like each other. The thing that is different between these guys is that Rob's vocals are really much more pop leaning and his songwriting certainly is. It has been easier for Rob and Matchbox Twenty to lean more pop over the years and not totally lose their original fanbase (but of course they have lost many).
Anyway, where am I'm going with this? I just don't think there's much Chris can do at this point. Maybe release one more song to HotAC without a video. The 40-50 stations that still play his new music will add the song. Finish his current tour and then maybe sit out a year or so and see if the music climate changes. If not, I think they are going to be a club playing mid-30 aged rock band. They can still churn out some rock albums and make their core (but ever shrinking) fans happy. This may be their last album to see much radio play and a smaller label may be his best bet (probably the album after this next one).

^ I agreed with your viewpoint! I think that Daughtry have earned a nice spot in the 'song book of the decade' with evergreens like Home and September.
If there a reboot for the singles release off BTS era:
1st single : Start of Something Good 2nd single : Losing My Mind 3rd single : Gone Too Soon 4rd single: Break The Spell

I can't vouch for this bec. I didn't hear it myself... but I heard that Chris said last night that "Start of Something Good" is the next single.

Where did you hear? I'm excited if this is true. At least they are getting a third single! Maybe this can be huge on HAC and crossover to mild pop success. That would be a best case scenario at this point.

I heard Chris said it at the Troy concert and I see on his twitter feed he said it again last night at the concert in Boston.
I too was surprised to see they're getting another single. I hope they support it, but not expecting much from RCA in that regard. But it is a good sign they're giving them another single.

SOSG is right up there with the best singles Daughtry has released IMO.

You had mentioned that you had 'heard' Chris mentioned about the new single; and that you had 'read' about it on his twitter feed???? But I have neither 'head' nor 'read' about the announcement at all!!!! Unless I learn about it from the horse's mouth ( be it Chris or the rest if the Daughtry members; or from the official website/twitter platform), I should not believe it. And they better be quick!!! The window of opportunity is closing and it shows through their ticket sales of their shows. Already 2 have just been cancelled due obviously to poor reception (guess even the Groupon thing is not helping)- and this is bad news and publicity which would hurt them.

^ Are you even a Daughtry fan? I don't believe I've ever seen anything positive from you. How about most of the concerts of this third leg are selling well, some selling out?... despite "no name" support, no single and no promo from RCA. The MI concert was not cancelled bec. of poor sales. www.examiner.com/article/daughtry-concert-at-bmo-harris-pavilion-on-summerfest-grounds-has-been-cancelledAnd Chris definitely said at least twice at the concerts that SOSG is the next single. There haven't been any official announcements yet and knowing RCA don't expect the release anytime soon. But at least they're getting a third single. It's better than not getting one. I don't expect anything from RCA anymore. They are clueless and constantly screwing up and screwing Daughtry. But that doesn't mean Chris isn't a great talent with lots of fans and some success even this 3rd era despite everything. Don't make it worse than it is. That's what the trolls do bec. it's what they wish for.

I was surprised he didn't name the single in the interview. But he did say it again that night at the Baltimore concert — that SOSG was the next single. RCA always take the longest time with singles with Daughtry. This has messed them up last era and this era. I've stopped banging my head in the wall a long time ago in regard to their treatment of Daughtry.
