As a whole, I'd much rather listen to Femme Fatale or Teenage Dream, or even Cannibal. So would I when I want fluff; that's not what this is and they're not really comparable, at all. I'll go for a B. An A seems a bit OTT right now, but I'm definitely impressed.

C.
It sounds indulgent, generic, a lot of the songs are indistinguishable from each other. There are highlights (Edge Of Glory, Electric Chapel) but that's about it.

B+ probably an A by the weekend. The album as a whole is pretty great.

Lady GaGa, as much as I don't like her, is one of my most listened to artists, but this album falls flat on its face. Anybody that doesn't like it are not "trolls". If anything, people are being very reasonable considering there is only one vote for F. To quote you yesterday, why the generalizations? Hm?

i don't think i'll be able to consistantly listen to the album as a whole cuz there are too many skippable tracks. Half the album isn't good, and only 4 songs are great (Born This Way, Judas, Schiebe, Bloody Mary). The rest is just ok.

Wow honestly, I'm surprised by the results. People on other forums are saying that its her best album, and that its also one of the best pop albums of the last couple years. its cohesive, and makes the Fame Look like shit in comparison. Im not voting yet though, need more time to let the album sink in.

There are so many mixed reviews with this. I don't know how album sales will hold up in the 2nd week.

F - Incredibly, incredibly disappointed. She's going down the wrong road with this one.

C. It's got a worse filler/stand out ratio than even The Fame. "Government Hooker" sounds like a weak demo, like a lesser "Nothin' On But The Radio". "Americano" is like something you'd dance to at a festival because it's the middle of the afternoon and there's nothing better to do. It sounds like a Basement Jaxx b-side. "Schiße" sounds like a forgotten mid-nineties dance song in the vein of Livin' Joy, but not as good. "Bloody Mary" reminds me of one of the songs from the middle of the pack on The Fame, pleasant but obvious filler. "Highway Unicorn" sounds like something that would barely scrape the top twenty in the Netherlands or somewhere, which still makes it one of the better moments. I'm not really surprised though because this is someone who managed to have filler on an eight-track EP. I'll just do what I always do: enjoy the fantastic singles, ignore the rest and move on.

I actually...kind of like it? I mean, it's no TFM, and it is sort of a wall of sound that I think will require a few listens for me to really figure out how I feel about it, and some lyrics really are just sort of appalling, but I really like the general sound. Nothing else screams radio smash to me and I question how successful it will be in the long run, but for now...I'm thinking it falls in the B range somewhere.

First listen verdict is a C. Put simply: The low points drag the album down so far that the highs are unable to salvage it. I may change my mind after a couple more listens but iiiidddddkkkkkkk. I'll just do what I always do: enjoy the fantastic singles, ignore the rest and move on. Sounds like a plan, blondie.

It's very experimental and certainly won't be an easy transition; there aren't enough echoes of her earlier work I don't think. I don't have a problem with that, but some may. Initial reviews are very positive, I'm not that fussed about fan reactions (especially from those who think Hair should have been the lead single - really?).

Marry the Night
I thought that the verses were beautiful, the way she sang it was quite melancholy but still has that uplifting feel to it. However, the chorus was a let down. The second part of the bridge was the highlight for me though. Still, I think that this is better off as a ballad. The ending wasn't all that either.
8.25/10
Born this Way
Catchy, but that's it. The lyrics sounds force with the exception of the first verse.
4/10
Government Hooker
This song has no redeeming quality.
3.5/10
Judas I thought that this was better than BTW but after a few listen it's just annoying. All the negative qualities of this song outweighs the only thing that is good, its chorus.
3.25/10
Americano
No comment.
3.25/10
Hair
Terrible lyrics and the verses sounds a bit like the verses from BTW. The sax was incorporated really well. It's good song though.
6/10
Schiße
A part from the spoken words, I think this is a good track. Also, the spoken words before the chorus is a bit like the bridge from Bad Romance.
7/10
Bloody Mary
A part from the way sings the verses, the growl and the chanting during the bridge, this is another listenable track, I really like strings at the beginning.
6.5/10
Bad Kids
The spoken words at the beginning reminds me of something but I can't remember, possibly Beyonce. The chorus is nice.
4/10
Highway Unicorn The verse sounds like Dance in the Dark but not as impressive.
5.5/10
Heavy Metal Lover Gaga has a knack of making terrible verses and this is no exception. The chorus sounds nice though, very different from her.
7.5/10
Electric Chapel
It has a very Evanescence vibe.
8/10
You and I
I like the country vibe, very very Shania Twain. I've been hearing that it was Mutt Lange who produced this so I'm not surprised about the way it sounds.
8.75/10
The Edge of Glory I really like the verse of this song, however the chorus is very repetitive and sounds too much like MLWSWY. The Sax at the bridge felt very detached from the song, the transition was very rough. It felt like it was just an afterthought.
7.5/10
It's not as experimental as many people are deeming it to be. Most of the songs are all over the place, it has no sense of direction whatsoever. It's very repetitive as well.
Final tally: 71.5/140
I'll give it a low C though.

I think rating an album the day it comes out is stupid anyway. People tend to immediately compare it to the artists prior material which has had years to impact people in one way or another. Then people listen to something for the first time and decide whether or not it stacks up to the hits and favorites that that person has been listening to for years, and most often unless they are devoted fans, they decide that it's not as good as the artists old music. One day, Born this Way will be Gaga's "old music".

This album sounds like... a missed opportunity. For every glimpse of brilliance, there are gratuitous over-embellishments and lifeless songcrafts ready to drag the whole thing down. "You And I" could have been a decent album filler, but thanks to the way it was pummeled relentlessly by the over-eager producer, it is but a pulp of unlistenable mess. On the other hand, the exaggerated backing actually works for brief period on "Highway Unicorn", but then the chorus comes along, sedates the unicorn, and the poor thing never recovers. Talk about a waste of an awesome title. "Hair" and "Bad Kids" simply serve no purpose and should've been omitted, while "Electric Chapel" bears the unfortunate resemblance to The Cardigans' "My Favorite Game", an uphill battle that it ultimately lost.
All the negativity aside, "Marry The Night" is probably her best work yet. At last, a track that is focused and incisive, and unlike most of her work, actually sounds effortless. A delicious mixture of bleakness, melancholy, glee, and triumph, this is Gaga at her best. She better wrote that recipe down. "Government Hooker" and "Heavy Metal Lover", with their campy, seductive grooves, somehow recalls Chemistry-era Girls Aloud, an immediate plus by anyone's standard. "Americano" and "Scheiße" (whose many titular incarnations I have been thoroughly enjoying) may essentially be trifles, but they are how trifles are supposed to sound like: fun, with a dash of camp.
This is probably a tad long-winded to arrive at... C+. Note for next time: learn to EDIT.

I love almost the whole thing. A. I'm thinking it's more of a B now. There's definitely filler. Bad Kids, Hair, and Heavy Metal Lover are just ok.
