Simple Minds' Jim Kerr disliked "Don't You (Forget About Me)" initially, in part because he didn't want to record songs written by others. His label (A&M Records) and then-wife Chrissie Hynde, of the Pretenders, persuaded him to cut it anyway. I guess he softened his opinion once the money from it started rolling in.
Sammy Davis, Jr., hated "The Candy Man" but somehow was persuaded to record it anyhow. According to a story Casey Kasem told in June 1972, when it hit #1, Sammy cut it in one take and said "There goes my career".
Paramore's Hayley Williams won't sing "Misery Business" anymore, saying it "is not a set of lyrics that I relate to as a 26-year-old woman [she's now 31]. I havenβt related to it in a very long time. Those words were written when I was 17β¦ Admittedly, from a very narrow-minded perspective.β

I don't know if it has been already said but George Michael HATED Careless Whisper. Do you know why? It's one of my favorite songs from him (out of those I've heard, at least). It is rather different from the sound he became known for, though, so maybe that's a contributing factor.

(He doesn't actually hate it he just acts like he does btw) Iconic π He also said once that it's funny looking back on their debut album given how young and pretentious they were at the time, and I remember him joking about how his voice sounds so 'angsty' on that record. I believe it's all part of its charm though, especially since they were fully self-aware of that pretentiousness ("Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention"). π

Rihanna and Who's That Chick (Big Hit WW anyway) She basically said it was a song that could be shopped around to anyone, said her boyfriend at that time disliked it, and later said she originally didn't like it but then decided to record it on an impulse later. Doesn't she hate a lot of her past hits ? I have often heard it. According to Dallas Austin, Boyz II Men hated "I'll Make Love To You" when Babyface sang it to them over the instrumental for the first time, allegedly talking about they don't need Babyface anymore (after End Of The Road). Eventually, their album exec. Jheryl Busby would force them to record the song... 14 weeks at #1 on BB Hot 100... He must have been so happy to push them hard to record it. Janet Jackson hated "Doesn't Really Matter" until it hit #1. I don't blame her. I initially liked it a lot but I find this song so annoying now.

His label (A&M Records) and then-wife Chrissie Hynde, of the Pretenders, persuaded him to cut it anyway. I guess he softened his opinion once the money from it started rolling in. That could be a separate topic of artists convinced to record songs by others. When the "The Final Countdown" was written, Europe didn't like it, then they decided to perform it live, and then they got convinced to record it. Within the last few years, it was in a Geico commercial. Kelly Clarkson needed friends to convince her to go on American Idol. What Hayley Williams said could probably apply to a lot of artists who got started as teenagers. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them criticized their first hits once they reach their 30s and 40s. There are titles and lyrics that refer to being young. Would anybody in their 30s or older make the album title "Finally Out Of P.E." that Brie Larson named her first album?

Justin Bieber revealed he dislikes "Beauty & A Beat" and only agreed to do it cause it sounded like what was popular at the time.
Kanye West dislikes "Gold Digger." He revealed he only did it cause it "sounded like a hit"
Selena Gomez hates "Come & Get It." She called the song a "Rihanna reject."
Demi Lovato doesn't like "Give Your Heart A Break" or "Confident," mainly got tired of them.
Elvis Costello recently announced he will no longer play "Oliver's Army" at shows and is asking radio stations to stop playing it.
John Lennon hated "Let it Be." In a later interview he said it was "Paul attempting to write a single" and that it sounded more like a Wings song.

Eydie GormΓ© (of Steve & Eydie fame) HATED her biggest solo hit "Blame It On The Bossa Nova." She even purposely did bad takes of the recording session to prevent the label from releasing it.

Mariah also dislikes You're So Cold
Just watch her ELLE Song Association (Holiday edition). When she's asked to sing a holiday song with the word "Cold" in it, she said she had a song titled You're So Cold, but considered "not worth it"
So sad, because You're So Cold has one of her best intros everrrrrrr

Apparently the non-Peter Cetera members of Chicago hated the Chicago 16 album because they felt they had no input and David Foster took too much control.

I don't think you'd call it a 'hit' by any stretch but Renee Rapp has said she hates 'Too Well' and wishes it was never released. At the time she said this, it was her biggest song and her first taste of commercial success in music (which, now 'Not My Fault' has gone on to even bigger things for her).
