I'm surprised Alanis is not on the master list on the first page.
Also, I wonder how much Whitney Houston's debut sold in the pre-Soundscan days.

Hilary Duff: Metamorphosis - 3,956,333 Hilary Duff - 1,792,692 Most Wanted - 1,474,305 Dignity - 408,884 At her peak, she was a monster. :o Metamorphosis is so close to passing 4 mil & her self-titled album is close to 1.8 mil off of just ONE single. :( Most Wanted definitely sold greatly for what it was. It's a shame Dignity only got one proper single (Stranger & Play With Fire got videos, but weren't sent to radio or pushed much). Had promo not ended in June 2007 and Stranger went for adds as was originally planned that month, or had HR released another single in the fall, she could have easily passed 500k & possibly 600k by the end of it's run. From 340,892 when it fell off to 408,884 by now is not bad.

For being a Disney Channel star, basically being the guinea pig for all her future predecessors and selling like that yes she was. People say ~ZOMG sHe oNlY sOLd l!k3 tHaT cUz oF d!sN3y~ but she was literally the first from Disney Channel to break into the music industry while still with Disney and she sold a lot.
Metamorphosis only had two singles, Hilary Duff ONE single and Most Wanted was a pre-mature greatest hits.
With the exception of Miley, none of the others, not even the Jonas Brothers at their peak, have come close except the first two HSM soundtracks.
Chalk it up to the declining music industry if you want, but Vanessa Hudgens debut album sold about 600k in total in 2006/2007 (Miley's Hannah soundtracks sold over 3 mil), while Selena is selling the same 4 years later. That argument doesn't hold as strongly.

Duff did enjoy impressive decent sales for Metamorphosis, considering it wasn't tied in to Disney/Lizzie McGuire.

Observation; I know the RIAA does not credit the album to any individual performer, but I think we can list Dreamgirls under Beyonce. On the single disc, she's on 13 of the 20 tracks. Same for Jennifer Hudson (Anika Noni Rose was on 11 of the 20 tracks). The two-disc deluxe edition charted separate from the original- wonder why that was...

There was no longevity attached to her brand and she is irrelevant now. What difference does it make to argue over a hasbeen? Edit: I'm sorry that does come off really mean...I like Come clean, though.

And Annette Funicello paved the way for all of the above.

None of them would be anywhere without Queen Snow White. Slayin' since 1937.

^I think I hear an amen. :) We have multiple movies based on Snow, a TV series in the fall (and let's not forget that short-lived Charmings TV sitcom from 1987-1988).

Edit: I'm sorry that does come off really mean...I like Come clean, though. Who's arguing over a "hasbeen?" I simply stated how well her sales were at her peak and expanded on it. Hilary's happy being a housewife now and I, for one, couldn't be happier for her. She made her money touring and selling albums back when she was a teenager and was a big influence to the current crop of Disney stars. So I'd say her brand did what it was meant to do.

Apparently Blackout crossed a million two or three weeks ago. That makes all her previous albums platinum - ofcourse, FF needs a miracle to join that group. It's frustrating to see that ITZ is 3K copies short of crossing the 3M mark.

PTB, if you could add Greatest Hits and Remixes (Mimi Carey), Number Ones (Janet Jackson) and The Singles Collection (Britney Spears) to those respective acts' info the next time you update it, it would be swell. Gracias. :)

HG, I put the latest known figure for the Singles Collection. It's from May 25, thanks to BMK.
I sent a request in for Mariah and Janet.

Also Hilary Duff's Best Of, if you could? Even though it will obviously be an embarassing outcome at around 25k, possibly!

^Her figures are on the first page, and they're only a handful of months old. She has two titles on last week's top 20 0catalog albums- Let's Talk About Love- which is discounted at, I believe, Walmart, stands at 9.503 million. My Love stands at 494,515.

Can't believe that Madonna and Janet sold such few albums early on!

^SoundScan didn't start tracking sales until early 1991- surely you now that their biggest albums sold millions and millions. :)

I know that it is a soundscan thread but maybe to italicize pre-soundscan since there are only a few artists listed that fit there. Also, is there a thread for albums and singles sales worldwide? Thanks.

Well there is no known 'pre-soundscan' hard numbers, only thing we can go off of pre-1991 sales are RIAA shipments which obviously doesn't always = sales
