SoundScan supposedly started tracking in March 1991- but, a couple of months wouldn't make that much difference, I guess. Labels also have a history of erratic certifying- i.e. certifying product long after a title's eligible for a level.

Well, Jive needs to become erratic "Britney 2007 version" and certify the following: Britney Spears In the zone 3x platinum Blackout 1x platinum Britney 5x platinum Seriously, Jive get on the stick.

Does anyone think it's a good idea to have a thread similar to this where people can go to the thread and see a list of artists A to Z with their US digital single sales? I hate having to ask fans of certain artists the sales of the artists digital sales. Wouldn't it be best to include all the sales in one thread? If people think it's a good idea, then i'll be happy to start the thread off, and people can help me out by providing me with sales of artists digital sales.

I do...I think was thinking about that too. With Album sales US and WW, single sales US and WW but it would be alot of work. I could give you some links if you wanted a jumpstart.

Speaking of digital sales, does anyone have numbers for Janet's "Feedback"?

Ok then, i'll start working on a thread. And it'll probably be best to start in alphabetical order, so i'll start with As first. If anyone has digital sales with A artists, then PM them to me. Thanks!

The "Burlesque" soundtrack has totaled sales of 497,000, according to SoundScan. As it's averaged approximately 3,000 in sales in recent weeks, it's possible that the set will hit the half-million mark next week.
In the meantime, here's a recap of Cher's five best-selling albums and downloads during the SoundScan era.
Albums: 3.6 million, "Believe" (released in 1999) 2.8 million, "The Very Best of Cher" (2003) 964,000, "Heart of Stone" (1989) 955,000, "If I Could Turn back Time - Cher's Greatest Hits" (1999) 598,000, "Love Hurts" (1991)
Digital Songs: 394,000, "If I Could Turn Back Time" (released in 1989)
375,000, "Believe" (1999) 372,000, "I Got You Babe" (Sonny & Cher) (1965) 226,000, "After All" (with Peter Cetera) (1989) 212,000, "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves" (1971)

YOU HAVE to add LeAnn Rimes in this list - she shifted tons of albums at the start of her career

So the Burlesque soundtrack outsold Christina's last album *waits for the Christina maniacs to start screaming that the Burlesque soundtrack is Christina's album* Huh? Why would it not be? She's featured on 80% of the songs. I don't get what "screaming" needs to be done over this. ??? Maybe it's "technically" considered 'various artists,' but it's pretty clear who is on majority of the album.

*waits for the Christina maniacs to start screaming that the Burlesque soundtrack is Christina's album* Huh? Why would it not be? Because it isn't credited solely to her? We all know that the Christina nutsies are only claiming it to be *her* album because it's doing well. If it was flopping, it would be an entirely different story.

Um, she sings on 8 of the 10 tracks. That's a Christina Aguilera album that features Cher.

It barely made it to gold cartification, it has no chance at platinum. I don't imagine that a year from now or so, anyone will care.

I find it funny that when Burlesque first came out or was announced everyone was FURIOUSLY ready to attribute everything to Christina-if it flopped it was Christina's fault, Christina made it flop, it was Christina's movie, Christina's soundtrack. Then, the soundtrack did decently and the movie/sales are doing decently and now we have the complete opposite-furiously arguing that it ISN'T Christina's at all it was CHER that made it popular or at least not flop.

Actually, Glitter shows up under Mimi Carey's info in SoundScan- as it shouldm, being that her name is on it. And Billboard listed her name on the BB 200 when it charted- and it's her album via the RIAA. That's never been in question.
However, the RIAA is not giving Aguilera credit for Burlesque, which is kinda perplexing. As far as its sales- it didn't tank in the long haul, that much is true. But, it peaked at, what, No. 18? Half a million units is respectable enough these days, but it's not "great." Cher's presence on a couple of tracks may have helped some, sure, but it was that plus Aguilera's fanbase, as well as the campy nature of the movie and fans of that kind of thing, that helped it get to gold status.
