Alright. Listened to everything. Gotta say, I definitely enjoyed Make Yourself more than I enjoyed Morning View. I guess I like that softer experimental side of them slightly more, while that heavier numetal sound is almost a slight turn off for me nowadays.
I may be slightly biased because I've heard alot of the songs from it, but I actually enjoyed Light Grenades the most. Anna Mollie and Dig are just such great songs and I guess after ONE listen it's hard to find something I enjoy more, but I like the growth they've gone through, and knowing that I am now interested in listening to this newer album, and hopefully they went more in that direction.
If I were to rate the albums I'd go Light Grenades > Make Yourself > Crow > Morning View > SCIENCE

Make Yourself is way more heavy/nu-metal and Morning View is way more soft experimental. Are you sure you didn't accidentally switch the titles there, buddy?

And no, I didn't mix up the titles, I just mixed up which album was which in my head, considering I listened to the back to back and they both start with M. xD

I can't say that I'm a fan so far of this one, but Incubus has had several singles that I never got into so that doesn't mean anything. Still, if they're going for something on the lighter side, this pales in comparison to beautiful songs like "Dig". Granted, I think this song is trying to be breezier, but that's just not the aesthetic I would want out of an Incubus record.

Even so, I got my eye on you. :) If we're going to be talking about being embarrassed about the albums we bought in the past, I might as well spill mine from when I first got into "current music." I was one of those whom listened to everything that I heard on MTV no matter what kind of music it was. Yeah, but those aren't embarrassing albums. II was OK, but had a surprising amount of filler, for how strong the 3 biggest singles were. And for some reason, though I really liked all 4 of the Very Necessary singles, I have no idea now why I never bought it at the time, though I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase it now. But those other three are pretty much unanimously regarded classic albums. And as for your last sentence, I think that's what everyone does when they first get into music. They listen to everything around them on the radio and MTV (back when the M actually meant something) and like it for the most part, because there's nothing to compare it against yet. Even songs you don't particularly care much for at the time tend to evoke nostalgia years later. At least in my case. I'll see your first five albums and raise you five more (plus two cassettes). Paula Abdul - Forever Your Girl [cassette] Boyz II Men - Cooleyhighharmony Michael Jackson - Dangerous En Vogue - Funky Divas U2 - Achtung Baby Snow - 12 Inches of Snow Jon Secada - s/t P.M. Dawn - The Bliss Album Paula Abdul - Spellbound Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way [cassette] Mariah Carey - Music Box Mariah Carey - Emotions I'm not embarrassed by any of that, though I've sold off three of those over the years. I have a particular soft spot for that first Paula Abdul album because it was the only music I owned for at least a couple of years. Directly influenced by my brother, I was real into pop music for a few months in the late spring & early summer of '89, but then fell off to casual listening until he got back into it in the spring of '92, at which time my passion developed, quickly bolted ahead of his and never looked back. I could write paragraphs about the circumstances of acquiring most of the albums in my collection.

I could write paragraphs about the circumstances of acquiring most of the albums in my collection. I think I own 2,5,7,8, and 9 (all in cassette). There are a few others on there that I might own also. Regarding Incubus, I still think Adolescents is a really good song. Dig is actually one of the few Incubus songs that I tend to turn the radio station when it comes on.

I'm not into rap or hip-hop at all, but if I happen to hear hear a jam from the early-mid 90s on the radio for some odd reason, you better believe I'm turning that shit up :) I didn't have any of those albums that you mentioned, but years later when getting into U2 did buy "Achtung Baby." I pretty much liked songs from all of those artists back then though and like the rap/hip-hop songs that I mention, if I heard them on the radio now, I'd give them a listen. However, if most of those songs came out now, I'd never give them the light of day or either way I'd probably never hear half of them anyway since I only limit myself to checking out what's new in rock or adult contemporary anyway.

Incubus' new album is the biggest disappointment of the year, for me, so far. Almost five years since Light Grenades for this is right down frustrating. I love Incubus and they are one of my core bands (one of those I listen to regularly), but truth be told, apart from "Adolescents", "If Not Now, When?", "Friends And Lovers" and "Isadore" nothing from this album is whort it, in my opinion. The songs are simply unmemorable and they clearly lack energy. Hope they redeem themselves with their next work...
In my book, "Promises, Promises" is nothing more than ok. I expect it to peak in the mid teens on Alternative. To be fair, "Adolescents" is the only song in the whole record that sounds Alternative radio friendly. I can see most of the tracks breaking ground on Triple A, though.

projected album sales 75-80k I believe the early leak, the mixed reaction to the album from the fans and a not so successful first single are to blame the most for that poor result.

I love the whole album. It's different from previous Incubus albums but it's got a great atmosphere that you can easily get lost in, and the world was needing an album like that. I think considering the long gap between albums and the certainty that this album was going to turn off some fans, 75-80k is quite respectable.

I think anything below 100k isn't that respectable for a band of their size, but it's completely understandable that it will debut with those sales, considering everything... I really can't get lost in this album, sadly. I guess that from this year, so far, Death Cab For Cutie's Codes And Keys and Radiohead's The King Of Limbs did it better, for me, in terms of creating a universe I can immerse into.

I disliked King Of Limbs. Only Radiohead album that has ever put me to sleep. While it's far from the brilliance of their four masterpieces, I'd rank it above deleted Honey, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief. I never got into those records. I dig two to four songs in each of them and that's pretty much it.

There's no variety present and nothing memorable about it.

Agreed with Pen on "King of Limbs." The new Incubus one sends me to sleep, also. What happened to the bombastic sound of singles such as "Anna-Molly" & "Megalomaniac?" "Love Hurts" would sound up-tempo on this record.

I don't think Incubus needs to be uptempo to be interesting though. Think about Aqueous Transmission. That's kind of how I feel going into this album.

I get your point, but this album is too one-paced. They could at least have added one or two up-tempo numbers. The new Fair to Midland album smashes this one out of the park.

That one is great and tunes like "I Miss You" and "The Warmth" are among my favorites from Incubus, I just can't handle a record filled with those type of songs. "Adolescents" and "Switch Blade" are the only uptempo tracks in "If Not Now, When?". Plus, like I said I find the new songs to be really unmemorable. As if it wasn't enough, I also don't like most of the lyrics, I can't find any meaning in some of them...
