Under Cool New Music on AllAccess. :o
'Set Fire To The Rain' would have been the better choice but I LOVE this song.
Here is her brilliant performance of the song at this year's Brit Awards:

It should be interesting to see how this performs because it is a traditional piano ballad being released among a very rhythmic pop landscape. I don't think a ballad of this kind has hit the Top 10 since Christina Aguilera's "Hurt" in 2006. Her success this year makes her a little difficult to ignore though, despite how different this song is from everything else on the radio.

^ Agrred great song, but not at all inline with the current radio landscape. This could go either way. Regardless, it's a great song.

This is my favourite off of 21 so I hope it does well! I'd be content with this going top 20 here.

No. It should be the third single.

Awww.... :( :( :(
I wanted Set Fire to the Rain, then this. I've compared RITD and SFTTR with Bruno's first two hits JTWYA and Grenade and strongly believed her success here would follow suit as such.
Oh well, at least it's one of my favorites from the album. Can't complain, though. She's still selling her album(s) like CRAZY, so either way it's a win-win. I still hope SFTTR gets released at some point.

Beautiful song. I feel like this could be massive as long as radio understands that people want to hear it. It's got a message that a lot of people can relate to.

I wanted "SFTTR" before this. Oh well, it's an amazing song, and I hope the best for it. I think Top 10 is do-able.

This should've been saved for the fall. Ah well, still hope it does well enough on Pop radio - top 10 perhaps? I'm confident this is going to dominate AC radio and the digital charts, though.

They should have waited for third single... I wanted RITD to sweep at 2012 Grammys, and SLY at the 2013 ones haha

I'm confident this is going to dominate AC radio and the digital charts, though. I agree. This even debuted at #65 on the Hot 100 when the album came out, just from digital sales. So I'm sure people will go crazy over it, the only question is whether pop radio will jump on board like they did for RITD.

Oh man, no SFTTR?!!!! :/ This would've been perfect as the 3rd single. Is kinda weird releasing such a slow ballad for Summer.

It's looking like RITD will stay in the top 10 until the summer's over so I wouldn't really worry about SLY being all over the radio during the summer. It doesn't even have an official adds date yet. Even if this were to go for adds in mid-July, chances are we wouldn't hear it much until the tail-end of summer going into the fall (mid-August into October, perhaps?). This might actually be a smart move because I now see this being a set-up for Set Fire to the Rain to be another one of her biggest hits, possibly as big as RITD if not bigger. imo, as long as SFTTR gets released sometime during the era, it's a win-win situation. As I said before, her album(s) are still selling huge amounts. Although I'm a little dissapointed, I'll get over it really fast. I'm just relieved that Rumour Has It isn't next.

This is one case where it is really difficult to call. Given her current popularity, I think she could buck the trend against traditional ballads and actually score another significant hit with this. Its message and her delivery will really resonate with listeners, especially females and gays (who also happen to be the biggest demographic of pop listeners outside of teens.)

I love this song so much but it's a terrible choice for Pop radio to follow RITD. They should have gone for SFTTR.

I think this can catch on for pop radio. So what if it's different than anything else out there right now? Doesn't mean it can't be a hit. Aside from RITD, this is the song on "21" that almost everyone who has the album just absolutely loves. I saw her live a few weeks ago and she closed with RITD, but this was 2nd to last and everyone, and I mean, EVERYONE, in the audience knew every word and was singing along to it. This song could be huge. I think as people start to hear it, and it climbs up and up iTunes, pop radio will follow suit, just as it did with "Rolling in the Deep."
This song will hit a chord with a lot of people because it's a gorgeous song and the lyrics stick with you. "Set Fire to the Rain" is good, but this is great. The only reason I was hoping they waited to release this was so this could be in contention at the 2013 Grammys.

#121 Itunes currently. Maybe they saw that and went with this choice.

Yessssss! This made my day. Who cares if Pop doesn't embraced it? At least they trying something risky and her album is still selling 100K a week.

I thought the Grammys had a rule that if an album wins a Grammy, none of the individual tracks can be nominated in the future. Assuming 21 wins a Grammy, any singles would be ineligible for the 2013 Grammys.

Great song, but I wouldn't have chosen it as the 2nd single single. There are more pop friendly singles on the album i.e. SFTTR. I fear many stations that played RITD might not even touch this. I have a really hard time imagining it on my local CHR stations, KIIS and KAMP, for example.

I'd rather this get a vocal nom, while RITD gets a ROTY or SOTY nom.

I don't get why everyone's so surprised it's this and was so set on it being "Set Fire To The Rain". This was the second single everywhere else in the world and was a massive hit. It's like everyone just decided it was confirmed to be "Rain" and has been talking like it is for months when it was always obvious to me it was going to be this.

Just think of Green Day's ROTY win for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" in 2005, a year after their album won Best Rock album. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. And if it becomes a chart hit during this eligibility period, they can't submit it for next year's Grammys, they wouldn't allow it.

Of all the 'buzz breakthrough' acts to come out of nowhere on CHR, have any got a second hit? M.I.A., Amy Winehouse, Gnarls Barkley, Kings Of Leon, etc?

Even Kings of Leon's second single failed to chart at all and we all know how big the first one was.
I think this song will flop, relatively speaking.
