the obvious choice. I hope it does just as well as "PUK". Does it have an official add date yet?

I'll be shocked if this does anything. Personally love it, but this group is likely a one hit wonder. PUK sounds like nothing else on the album, everything else is a rip off of Passion Pit and Black Kids. I would have released "Houdini",but it won't do too much more than this.

I'm not sure. I don't think this would have done anything on its own, but considering the success of "Pumped Up Kicks"*, it could be given enough of a chance to really click with listeners.
And I won't deny the influence, but I like this more than anything I've heard by either of the aforementioned bands.
*I refuse to use the initials... they make me queasy.

I should have said it better, Foster the People is like an un-Indie version of Passion Pit and Black Kids. I also think this "sound" is on the way out. I enjoyed it four years ago, but alternative seems to be going back to more organic.

I also think this "sound" is on the way out. I enjoyed it four years ago On Alternative radio? Seems like radio's only picked up on it in the last year or so - I'd say it's still on the rise, and will probably still be on the rise for the next couple years Helena Beat doesn't have that strong a hook though IMO, so I pretty much agree that whatever success it has is due to riding the wave of Pumped Up Kicks

Just look at the Alternative chart over the past year. I've never seen half of the chart have so many indie artists on it and now some stations like even AltNation play indie bands most of the time. Also, a few years ago, Alternative played more bands that are now popular on Active Rock when the two formats were very similar. In the past year or two, the two formats have begun to subside from one another and less songs seem to overlap onto both formats.

I personally think that alternative just doesn't have really any "big" emerging artists with a breath of fresh air, I think about how about in 04 you had Franz Ferdinand, Killers, Modest Mouse, Death Cab starting to make way, then in 06-07 you were seeing Muse, My Chemical Romance, AFI, Green Day, a more of a emoish rock come around but then now, I don't even know what to say is going on. Who has the albums with a bunch of Top 5s on it? It sounds like folk rock could make it's way up, but who knows.

I'd say The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Airborne Toxic Event, and potentially now Foster The People might be the bands you're talking about. I still am holding out for alternative to catch on to Paper Tongues and Innerpartysystem, but I'm guessing that won't happen. :/

Although, I do happen to like Mumford & Sons quite a bit because they're different from anything else on the charts now.

Airborne Toxic Event is good but I'm not blown away from them. However, they seem to cover many demographics so they'll be in good shape if they have a nice follow up to Changing.
Foster the People...not happening. Been done already for four years.
Mumford & Sons has the sound that I believe this format is going to be heading towards, or at least a part of the format. The synth sound is a bit overdone, and a lot of it is grouped as "an emo thing" which is given a thumbs down to most up and coming artists. I could be wrong.
Black Keys are too old but their sound ALSO will be opening new doors to the format.
I'm interested to see if The Killers are finished or not with their next album, they have the talent to do it, but I'm not sure. I can see them disappear, or I could see them pull a "Green Day" and have a huge album. Many people still like this group a lot, they are a great live act, and Hot Fuss seems to show up more and more as being one of the most underrated albums of the 2000's.

I'm definitely interested to see what happens to them in the future as well. When I think of the indie bands that I do happen to like, The Killers come first. I thought "Hot Fuss" and "Sam's Town" were great while "Day & Age" was mediocre and a bit of a step down. It's been a while since they've released it, so I really wonder what they have up their sleeve. I agree that they could explode to the caliper that they had from '04-'07 or keep free falling.

Comparing FTP to Phoenix is a travesty.

Not comparing them as far as sound. Just in terms of chart performance. "Helena Beat" will be to "Pumped Up Kicks what "Lisztomania" was to "1901" ...

This is burning on me pretty quickly - as excited as I am about Pumped Up Kicks becoming a huge pop hit, I feel like they're probably gonna be one-hit wonders

I love this. I love "Pumped Up Kicks" too, but this is even catchier and more instant for me. I don't expect this to be as big as "Pumped Up Kicks" but I'd be shocked if it completely failed.

These guys sounds like a mixture of a few current indie bands anyway i like this more than "Pumped Up Kicks". I think I will check their entire album out.
