I agree with Vincent to a point. Is this song a hit? Yes. Its it a huge hit/smash? Nope. Fantasia has never had a smash hit.
But to say the song wasn't successful is bull, and to say that J Records didn't need to send the song to Mainstream for them to play it is twice the bull. If that is the case why does any record company waste money sending songs for adds, when in your world radio is going to play the song any way.
I would love someone @ J Records to explain the reasoning behind sending "Hood Boy" to Urban AC but not sending "When I See You" to Rhythmic. That has to be one of the most ass backwards moves in music this year.
What was the last R&b #1 that wasn't sent to Rhythmic or Mainstream. What was the last R&B Top 5 that wasn't sent to Rhythmic? This song would be heading into the Top 20 if it had more than the few Rhythmic spins it is managing to squeak out.
The only reason why this song is not a smash is because of the blunders of J Records.

That's not a fan. I don't see in here were anyone said she was a superstar and is ruling the world. We are talking about the SONG and the song is a big hit and that is FACT, you don't top the charts six weeks on a song that not a BIG hit. He also think Amy Winehouse is winning R & B female vocal so he's sort of all over the place with his thoughts. That'll go to Beyonce , Fantasia or Jennifer before her. I just wish these posers would simply disappear. Sorry, still don't see it. When I think big hit, I think "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Irreplaceable", "Umbrella", "Buy U a Drank".........."When I See U" simply isn't even this league of songs, and not even the league below it "It's Not Over", "Girlfriend", "Makes Me Wonder", "Before He Cheats" The song did extremely well on it's format. I never tried to take that away from her, but in the grand scheme of things, there are so many more songs that truly were big hits, and crossed genre lines and dominated mulitple formats. "When I See U" simply wasn't one of those songs.............or did it and I missed it? Again, one doesn't have to think the world of Fantasia and praise her every accomplishment to be a fan. Did the song do well on it's format, of course. What it a huge single in the grand scheme of things, not even close. EXACTLY! NUff Said!

I agree with Vincent to a point. Is this song a hit? Yes. Its it a huge hit/smash? Nope. Fantasia has never had a smash hit. This is Fantasia's SMASH hit. The key word is FANTASIA. All her R n B hits have been SMASH RnB hits from Truth Is to Free Yourself, but "when I see you" is her Biggest SMASH r n b (another key word) hit. I guess you guys want her to have a hits like Sean Kingston, Rhianna, Ciara, Chris Brown. Well, that's not Fantasia she's not promoted that way (her songs aren't even sent to pop for adds) so accept her for what she is or simply become fans of people who have the type of hits that you can respect and accept. I guess that'd be Alicia Keys and Beyonce or even Elliott Yamin (he currently has a smash pop hit). After hood boy flopping and literally tanking her album, I surely didn't think there would be a #1 from this era so perhaps that's why people are happy about this HUGE hit. She had a sophomore slump sales wise, so be it, a lot of people do. However, that #1 single is in the history books and forever will be (along with how every many weeks it racks up at #1). Along with her gold certification for "Fantasia". And that's pretty darn good for a slump. Actually, since her debut album was only certified platinum and her new album is certified gold, that really isn't much of a difference. Only one level in certification. I know the sales are over 1 million off though (before someone jumps in to point that out) I honestly have never seen anyone put down for being #1 for six weeks, but I guess when your name is Fantasia, even that's possible. Whatever. Still doesn't change the fact the song is #1 and has been for nearly two months now.

Top 10. Ths has always been one of my favorites from the album.....eventhough they should have released "I feel beautiful" instead. This could possibly go top 5.

A "hit" is anything inside of the Top 40 of the Hot 100 with airplay and downloads, and a "smash" is anything inside the Top 20. That is the way it has been for as long as I have been following the Billboard charts. I don't want her to have any thing like Rihanna or Ciara or whomever, to even put her in any category with them is an insult. But some of those folks do have smash hits, that Fantasia doesn't have. Is that her fault? No, that onus falls on J Records. But this all this has already been said in this thread but some of yall need to realize that anything that is not praise does not an insult make.

Even that definition is too generous. A "Hit" is more like Top 20. A "Smash" is more like top 10.

I just don't agree with you. Your world appears to revolve around the top 40 mainstream chart and mine does not, so, we will never agree. With the way you look at music, basing this song on charts it wasn't sent to, then of course it won't even look like a hit, much less a smash. Where is she on the mainstream top 40, not even in the top 100, right? That's your opinion and it is really deluded in a way but okay, whatever. You aren't going to even begin me to thinking that way. I'm basing her hit on the format she was sent to, she doesn't have special rules but it is unfair to compare a song for ANY person to formats it is not targeted for. For the promo it got, to the formats it was targeted it is a SMASH hit. You don't have to agree, but you're not changing my mind. Got it? But I do get it, it's a HIT to you, not a smash hit. It's a flop to Vincent and it is a SMASH hit to me. The world will still go around if we disagree. I see what you are saying and I still disagree. These are FACTS: The song is a Top 40 Song (or hit) but it is an R & B SMASH hit. Those are facts. Anything else is just your opinion. Just like Rihanna's song was an R n B hit but it was a Pop/top 40 SMASH HIT. But it wasn't a SMASH HIT at R n B, not in comparison to what she did at top 40. I don't think she hit top 3 on R n B. Yet Fantasia is still hanging strong beating a song that was previously a SMASH hit on Top 40/mainstream. Now "Only One U", please? I can't comment and go around in circles on this silly issue anymore. That's it for me, I've made myself very clear.

This is another good single release from Fantasia. Don't know if its her voice or what, but for some reason she can't seem to make it big in the mainstream.

We've been writing books and books and books about her songs only being released to urban and urban ac, yet people are still posting saying "for some reason she can't make it big in the mainstream". Ya think because she isn't being targeted for that? When was the last time an artist who's not been targeted for mainstream made it big there? Even people targeted there are struggling there right now, kelly clarkson anyone? Two huge radio blunders in a row the last one didn't even make it to top 40. Fantasia's "Only One U" is #100 on urban and just went for adds. At least she is successful where she is being targeted.

You can afford to keep fooling yourself by saying she isn't marketed toward mainstream. Fact is, Fantasia won American Idol, and the object of that show is to produce a major pop star. She, like Kelly now, is failing to break in. Her songs, especially "When I see U" had mainstream elements, but the only thing that doesn't cater to mainstream IMO. is her voice. Its too unique for the average pop music fan and radio isn't giving her the time of day. If she finds success there, let me see what you have to say. "She isn't being targeted there." Yeah right. Unfortunately, she hasn't made it there

Thanx Believe me at your own will, but Fantasia is one of my favorite artists. I have always said that she is the best contestant to ever step on a talent show stage (not only idol, but any talent show in the world this century). She is an incredible entertainer and has a amazing and unique voice. She has loads of soul and a whole lotta personality. My favorite that season was Latoya, but I was thrilled when Fantasia won. I even voted for her. I just mentioned that the reason she hasn't made it to the mainstream may be because her (amazing) voice isn't conventional. Pop radio and mainstream fans have a hard time adapting to new sounds it seems. Not me though, from the first time I heard her singing "Proud Mary" years ago, I loved her. So you can cool down, I want to see Fantasia do well just like you.
