Watch her throw on some rapper again like B.O.B. He has been in the studio recently w/ Dr. LUke. Throw on him or Ke$ha, and she could capture the record!

:'( :'( :'( Katy Legendperry I'm so happy for this. While I would have loved HH. This feels more like a fall song than HH. 6th #1 on the way. Peacock should come after this, then close the era with HH. 8 Number ones!

I'm really displeased with the timing of this. This was the single I wanted [followed by peacock for #7 and hh for #8, still wanting those to happen following this]. However, this is just being announced in the middle of the month and the article says it's adds date will be sometime this month. That doesn't give radio enough time to push this comfortably into the top 40 like her previous singles. Especially since she lost some traction as LFN has been falling for a while and radio has already started to jump on the next batch of songs without knowing whether to expect another Perry track or not. Not to mention she could have better established herself at the beginning of the trend as opposed to following. Now she has You & I, Someone Like You, Without You all smashing; with radios aware of things like Criminal, Love On Top, etc.. already. She won't get lost in the shuffle, since she's Katy Perry. And right now, the name Katy Perry on a song, means a lot. I just feel it would be better if it looked like she was leading in the trend as opposed to following it with a less-than-risky safe midtempo. Oh well, this will be a nice free top 10 hit for her, and if her label knows what they are doing they'll follow it with Peacock and then HH for some extra top 10s too and get 8 top 10s from an album which will give her that record too.

Listening to this song now, I'm actually liking it! I think this could be one of my favorite singles from this era.

Love this song and think it's the obvious choice for one last single. I hope she takes the serious route in the video though, and not another LFN situation. I think it will do well.

Cannot wait. I'd love for this to go #1 but I don't see it happening as much as I love this song. I agree with the label that it makes sense to have a prospective hit single in the fourth quarter. Why miss out on the opportunity? Makes perfect business sense. You guys have to look at it with that in mind. It'd be nice to say "OH EVERY SONG SHE RELEASED FROM THE ALBUM WENT #1!!!" but who really cares about that besides us chart fanatics? That being said, I would have loved to see 'Not Like The Movies' get a release/treatment because I know she loves the song, as do I. 7th single!? 'Hummingbird Heartbeat' needs to stay the f**k on the album. Who wants to listen to a song about her virginity and Russell Brand's cum? DNW If anybody brings up a f**king Bruno Mars duet... HH!!!!! Needed to be the single. The only way i want this a single is if they get Bruno Mars an the remix! o

The album is still selling around 20k a week, so why end the era?
I like this. I think it will easily go Top 10, maybe higher.

oh I didn't know Smooth Criminal was a 7th single. and only peaked at no. 7? It's like one of his biggest hit now. lol I know. Too bad it wasn't released as one of the first 5 singles. Agreed. I love SC, whereas I've never even heard his first single from Bad that went #1... I thought we had confirmation it was going to be "Hummingbird Heartbeat"? Oh well, HH or TOTGA were my two picks if there was going to be a sixth single.

This is good but not one of my favorites on the album. I would've preferred HH.

Melody and production are nice, the lyrics sorta bring it down for me. But it could grow on me, especially if a new version is being sent to radio.

With the "Summer after high school" line, maybe we'll be seeing Kathy Beth Terry again (??)

This was the song I would have wanted to, so I'm glad. I don't know what will happen though. On one hand, one of the stations in Halifax has a Facebook page and they had a link to the Billboard article so my thoughts are that they will be quick to start giving it a few spins. So I think stations will jump on it fast but then I wonder, will they keep playing it along with the other bunch of new singles coming out (it is getting to that time of year) or will they just go back to familiarity of playing her old songs to even things out. Remember, radio doesn't want to play too many new songs at a time.
I don't think this will hit #1 on either chart. I think if there's a remix, even a slight one as the article said there was, it could do decent on iTunes so a Hot 100 placement in the Top 5 is definitely possible. I think it really just depends on the type of promo the single will have. A highly publicized video? A performance of the song at the AMAs? They'll have to do something a bit different this time around because I don't think people will react well if they did something too close to the Last Friday Night promo.
With all that said, can you imagine if this did hit #1 therefore breaking the record?

I really like this. I'm sure this will smash just like its predecessors. I love this song, but I wanted Hummingbird Heartbeat! That or "Who Am I Living For."

If they promote it enough,it could go Number 1. The label is going to do everything, EVERYTHING in their possible power to get this to #1 on the Hot 100. I'm sure there's already a remix or radio edit in the works, which I hope there is a radio edit because the instrumental doesn't really go anywhere. Regardless, I do like this. Definitely doesn't scream "#1" like the others but I'm sure it will happen. Her label did a great job this era of picking the right singles.

Either this or "Hummingbird Heartbeat" would have worked, but I prefer this one, so I'm glad they went with it. I completely agree that a 6th single makes perfect sense. Even if it doesn't hit #1, it should still be a big (ie. top 10) hit, and keep Katy on the radio over the holiday season. That should help her hit 2 million by years' end (which she probably would have done anyway).

Excited about this. And if it goes to #1 on the Club Play chart, that will mean 7 club #1s from one album? That's gotta also be a record of some sort.

I was gunning for Hummingbird Heartbeat, but this is probably a better choice for radio. Thank goodness Peacock wasn't chosen!

So that's a clean sweep of Dr. Luke and Max Martin songs as singles, with one single not from them. Last album, aside from the flop, there was also one non-Luke/Martin single. Well, I guess we can kind of guess what album #3's singles will be.

Perry: Summer after high school when we first met We make out in your Mustang to Radiohead And on my 18th birthday we got matching tattoos
Used to steal your parents' liquor and climb to the roof Talk about our future like we had a clue Never planned that one day I'd be losing you
In another life I would be your girl We'd keep all our promises Be us against the world In another life I would make you stay So I don't have to say you were The one that got away The one that got away
Mars: I was dreaming I was your Johnny Cash My June, you were my other, we made our pact Everytime that I miss you, I put those records on, whoa Sometimes I wanna get this tattoo removed Catch me downtown singing the blues I don't want to face the music, don't wanna hear the news
Perry: In another life I would be your girl We'd keep all our promises Be us against the world In another life I would make you stay So I don't have to say you were The one that got away The one that got away
The woah-woah-woah-one
Mars: The woah-woah-woah-one
Perry: The woah-woah-woah-one
All this money can't buy me a time machine, no
Mars: I should've got you that diamond ring, no
Both: I should've told you what you meant to me, whoa 'Cause now I pay the price
Perry (Mars): In another life I would be your girl (I would be your man) We keep all our promises Be us against the world (Against the world) And in another life I would make you stay (How I should have stayed) So I don't have to say you were The one that got away (The one that got away) The one that got away
Both: The woah-woah-woah-one The woah-woah-woah-one The woah-woah-woah-one The woah-woah-woah-one
In another life I would make you stay So I don't have to say you were The one that got away The one that got away

Normally I'd agree with jazzy about ending the era on a high note but the album still has legs and a song like this which diversifies her sound a bit would be good to milk for the rest of the holiday season and its sales opportunities. She hasn't really had a single like this (unless you count "Teenage Dream") this era so this shouldn't suffer from any Katy Perry burnout. It's not like her singles have been sound-alike this era.
It's just nice seeing an album get to 6 singles without a re-release and seeing a label totally support it all the way through with fresh mixes and solid music videos and promotional opportunities. I wish more labels would get it right as much as Capitol did with Katy this go-around.
