I think she would have recorded "Bounce" so well. I cannot wait to hear this new material of hers!

She needs to take a break. Her singles do really good but her albums just do decently well. I like Rihanna. But to keep releasing albums like this makes her come off as insecure about her place in this industry. She doesn't want for people to start feeling like she's overexposed.

I personally loveee that Rihanna releases new material every year. I say she keeps doing it unless the quality of her music starts suffering because of it.

Mariah released 7 albums in a decade. Madonna released 6 and Janet released 5 in nearly the time span. Rihanna is doing nothing out of the ordinary here. Strike while the iron is hot. As long as you're not rehashing your own material or releasing songs destined to flop, there is no issue here.
She's hardly "overexposed," as evidenced by continued success both album and single-wise. To be a Pop star able to release four consecutive albums in four years and have each sail past a million sold, you're doing something right.
Call her a "singles artist" or whatever you want - the reality is that Rihanna has proven herself to be one of the most consistent forces in Pop music and things look to remain the same if she keeps releasing material that connects.

Having 6 singles (S&M, AOTL, CKB, MD, Cheers, and Fly) in a year doesn't make one overexposed. Rihanna has not saturated media or radio at all.

Not particularly excited about the Calvin Harris news, he's been pretty s**t lately. Agreed. 'Bounce' is alright, but it's hardly anything to write home about. Guess we can abandon all hope of a dark album now.

As long as you're not rehashing your own material or releasing songs destined to flop, there is no issue here. >>>I agree; however because of the Rated R era, I think that her releasing a new album is not so bad. If she would have had number 1 after number 1 and owned the radio during that era i might be sick of her but because things slowed down a bit and picked back with the Loud era where GGGB ended it doesn't seem so bad...if that makes sense. She's hardly "overexposed," as evidenced by continued success both album and single-wise. To be a Pop star able to release four consecutive albums in four years and have each sail past a million sold, you're doing something right. >>>You have a different version of overexposed than I do. Her continued success doesn't mean that she is not overexposed. The backlash occurs when success starts to take a toll but overexposure/saturation occurs beforehand. Oh, and sail past a million...it took two of those 4 awhile. Just sayin...love riri but that sounded like she surpassed a million in no time.Call her a "singles artist" or whatever you want - the reality is that Rihanna has proven herself to be one of the most consistent forces in Pop music and things look to remain the same if she keeps releasing material that connects. >>>True, still wanting to know what vibe this new record is going to be... Having 6 singles (S&M, AOTL, CKB, MD, Cheers, and Fly) in a year doesn't make one overexposed. Rihanna has not saturated media or radio at all. Um, is that sarcasm

Nope-Radio doesn't accept anything dark or unfamiliar sounding now. I WOULD like if she had some dark-ish songs on the album and then had the fun bouncy "club bangers" everyone expects for the singles.

She would be dumb as hale to do anything remotely similar to a "dark" album to be honest. her label would be. Don't see why it would be bad for Rihanna to release a darker album if that's what she's inclined to do. Over happy Rihanna. Gimme that emo shit.

I prefer the darker Rihanna. The darker the better. I do like the happy stuff but it's just too much if it's not balanced out. Even if it doesn't translate into a lot of success, it would help Rihanna to grow as an artist and to gain further critical acclaim. Her vocals have improved tremendously from her first two albums and if the material is better, this would only be a good thing.
I know that she may not be in a dark place in her life right now, but she can tap into that part of herself and it would lead to only good things.
I want her to do songs like "Russian Roulette", "Firebomb", and "Man Down" (from her own catalog). But from other artists' songs, stuff like "I'm Okay", "Irvine", "Cornflake Girl", and "Concrete Angel." . I want her to address controversial topics like domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, suicide, abortion, and drug addiction.

I prefer the more vulgar Rihanna too but I'm not sure about "dark". I don't think she sees herself as a dark person anymore and the whole "warrior woman" thing is played out. I'd like to see her take what she already does and turn up the volume on it. If she wants to do dance, do something with heavier house influences. If she wants to do dubstep, don't give us the watered down popstep. Etc.
The brightest moment progressively on Loud was "Man Down" in my opinion because that was her taking a sound she has hinted at before and taking it to that next level.

Lol I want some more of the Rated R angst/brashness but with a fun approach. Like "Hole In My Head". I always envisioned she'd make a "Paper Planes"-esque record actually. She can be uber commercial without having to go straight dance/club.

"darker" Rihanna is what made me a fan (well, as much as I can call myself a fan of any artist). I loved the co-writes she did during Rated R, especially Fire Bomb. I guess I related to it much more.

She should definitely bring back James Fautleroy as a writer.

SOO EXCITED! I'm so ready for new Rihanna music. "To the left" to all those saying she needs a break, strike while the iron is hot, didn't ya know?

GangstaR RT @rihannarouge: I wonder what the theme of @rihanna's new album is gonna be like. Rated R was rocky & Loud was fun! Hmm.. :)

One thing I enjoy about Rihanna's albums are the balance. There's always a tight variety of well-produced music delivered.
What I could do with less of is the vulgar/explicit language. RiRi doesn't need that. ;)

Wow! She really pumps them out! I'm all for it though :) I'm sure I'll love it, can't wait! She signed a 7 album deal right. Maybe she is just rushing out of the contract. I think she can release an album late November/December and release a single in October. It's amazing how she can just keep going and I do hope she actually gets a #1 album this time. Hoping for a real break after the end of this new era. I think that is part of it too. She wants a better deal even though if it seven, she may not break after this album either.

I believe originally she signed a 6-album deal, not 7 so this new one would fulfill her contract.
As for the album itself, I think she should just name it RiRi.
