Her "Video Games/Blue Jeans" EP is available on iTunes. Ever since the summer I've been completely obsessed with her and she has built quite a following in the past few months. Check her out:

Must have played Video Games at least 200 hundred times since it first appeared on youtube (I'm not kidding!) and that song STILL mesmerises me. It's just stunning. I know there's a lot of controversy surrounding the former Lizzy Grant but if she keeps producing stuff as good as this I couldn't care less who she was/who's funding/how pumped up those lips are her blah blah blah.

I agree 100%. I don't really understand the controversy, it's not like she completely switched up her style. I've heard "Kill Kill," her song released under her real name and visually, her style hasn't changed and there are definitely similarities musically. I just think now she's more polished because she has a proper record label behind as well as an awesome PR team. Whatever, she's amazing in my opinion and I can't wait until her album drops.

^ I agree, she's making the same music before she got a huge PR team and the image overhaul.
Love that she has so much material out!

The controversy doesn't interest me. "Video Games" is just a great song.

Agreed. But some of the other stuff is IMO equally as good. THAT'S what excites me about her. The music industry is littered with one hit wonders, you know, someone who just hit lucky to write a killer song but had nothing with which to back it up. If my ears are correct this isn't the case with Ms Del Rey.

Lana had her TV debut on Jools Holland in the U.K.
you can tell she was nervous, but that's understandable. loved the arrangement!

LOL. I genuinely never thought she'd blow up this quick!! I would have bet my gonads on her being THE big breakout artist of 2012 but this is just madness. Her Jools Holland youtube upload has attracted almost 150,000 views since Wednesday. That is an amazing figure for Jools uploads (it's almost at Adele levels). There's clearly huge interest in her. And why not? Everything I've heard from her so far has blown me away!

Who is she? What is the controversy? I don't get it. 'Video Games' sounds great, though.

She's a singer/songwriter. The controversy lies in the way she's been publicised. A lot has been made of her image and she's been promoted to taste-making blogs and websites as an 'indie' siren. Then it came out that she'd previously made a shot at fame, recorded a 'pop' EP and had a much more mainstream look. So then the issue became whether or not she was authentic, then what authentic meant, if it mattered, what it means to be 'indie', etc. It was a bit like a very meta Pulse argument about why pop music isn't taken seriously but in reverse. Sort of. Needless to say buzz is buzz, she's done very well out of it regardless and fortunately "Video Games" is a great song that has benefited from the exposure.

Thanks for the explanation. :)

Her two songs are solid, I actually prefer Blue Jeans over Video Game. But are they really so ground breaking that she could went from a nobody to an indie darling in a month? not really imo. I'd say 90% of her buzz is because of her image. And from what I read, obviously this whole thing is a carefully executed genius PR scheme from the start. I guess that's why some indie blogs have issue with her. I don't really care either way, and I'm interested to hear what she can come up with soon.

^ i agree. the first thing that caught my attention was her image, then the music second. when i first started googling her, the main thing people were talking about was how much plastic surgery Lana's had, so her image definitely plays a major role in the attention she's been getting.

It seems to me that the problem is that Lana's promotion has highlighted to a certain crowd how much of a part image and reputation plays in their sphere. Image obviously plays a huge part in artists' success in all music factions. On a basic level you can't get played at country unless you fit the country image, you can't get played at urban unless you have the right image, you can't get played at pop unless you have the right image. The 'indie' (that word and the way it gets used annoy me but there's not a better way to describe way I'm getting at) crowd tends to think they're above that when it's just as true of them as it is any other music faction. Lanagate just highlighted how easily ANY group can be manipulated by the right image (that is often largely manufactured), and it did it with a crowd that thinks they're above such foolishness. That's why it's caused such controversy.
