Best single choice at this point in time! This is one of the best songs GaGa's ever recorded!

This was one of my choices for a future single... I like it, it fits in with the rest. I see Hair in the future and probably HML. Sorry, but I dont want ScheiBe or whatever or Bloody Mary.

This isn't bad at all, but it's just so unoriginal for Gaga. I don't have high hopes for this. Honestly, I'd much prefer if they took a risk with "ScheiΓe" or "Bloody Marry". Or even better: a re-release.

It's all good, but if you are impatient, then start at 40 seconds!
I'm hoping for an amazing video.... she's gonna need it!

It is crazy to see the polarized opinions about this song (and even this album in general). It seems like everyone either loves it or hates it, and it seems like that's been the case for most of GaGa's singles this era. Definitely interesting.

I'm glad this was chosen. I definitely prefer it over Hair which I'm not a big fan of, and I think it's more radio-friendly than Scheibe. Heavy Metal Lover is my favorite from the album, but I think this song is a stronger choice as a radio single. Hope it does well.

I think Hair would have made a much, MUCH better single. I'm not sure how well this is going to do.

I like this song, but it just should not be a single at this time (maybe not even ever). Maybe they could send the Zedd Remix from the deluxe edition of the album as the single version. www.youtube.com/watch?v=R90Fb3VuAiA

It is crazy to see the polarized opinions about this song (and even this album in general). It seems like everyone either loves it or hates it, and it seems like that's been the case for most of GaGa's singles this era. Definitely interesting. It's because of all the conflicting expectations many of her listeners had entering this sophomore full-length album cycle. Some were expecting a full-blown, epic pop album loaded with enormous choruses and hooks, while others were expecting her to prove that "The Fame Monster" was just foreplay and that she would up the weirdness ante with this current album. As it turned out, both camps got a little of what they were banking on, but neither has been fully satisfied. It is for that reason why it is probably of no surprise that I happen to enjoy this album of hers overall. Because I was hoping for more of a mix, more variety between her more straight-up pop appeal and her more delirious, over-the-top eclecticism. My only lament is that she has focused too heavily on espousing the former in her single releases and has been hesitant to project the latter. Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

She's had two substantial hits this era:
Born This Way The Edge of Glory
A moderate hit:
You And I
And a huge underperformer/flop:
Judas
While this is a good track, I have a feeling it will likely fall in line most with the latter category. "You and I" was a bit of a risk simply because it sounds nothing like what Pop radio is spinning. The fact that it got as far as it did was pretty impressive.
That said, I don't think it created much momentum and overall her momentum has been fading with each single released this era. So this won't have that to ride off of. She simply needs a smash hit at this point because that's what people are craving from her and this just isn't it - so I won't be surprised if/when it underperforms.

Pleased with the choice! I prefer Shiesse, maybe even Hair, but this is good too.

First off, I don't even know if I support this topic even being open because I feel like the genre forums, CHR/Pop in particular, should be reserved to songs actually active on the specific format and this one doesn't even have an adds date yet nor is it getting more than a few spins I don't think and might not for a week or longer. But since another moderator already replied without locking, perhaps the confirmation in the first post is enough to justify leaving this here. However, if something changes with the release of this track and it gets canceled, postponed or replaced, well, we'll be cracking down even more perhaps.
As for the actual song, I'm really on the fence. With You And I, I was against releasing it as a single at *that* time and I can't help but wonder if perhaps it could have done better if released right now following a different fourth single (perhaps Marry The Night?). Not that I'm disappointed with its performance but I feel like I'm settling for an okay peak when I do think it could have performed much better if timing perhaps was better. Radio may be more accepting of slower hits now riding on the coattails of GaGa and this time she could have used that. Although, the difference lies with helping make the trend or following the trend. I think Marry The Night is an obvious choice and perhaps at this point in the game, as it lies with GaGa who, as mentioned before is perhaps experiencing a loss of momentum for the era, it could work in her favour to have a more standard styled song. That could help. What might not work in her favour? Being GaGa and the momentum lost. I think that people haven't really recovered from the huge media buzz that accompanied her for the first half of the year and even though she hasn't been everywhere since June, she's still in the mindset of most and a lot of people seem indifferent. So I almost feel that it doesn't matter what the single choice is so they can go two routes with that thought in mind. A safe choice to ensure a modest but non-attention-grabbing hit or a not-safe choice to grab attention even if it means sacrificing chart success.

But i have stated even as BTW was released there will be no huge hits this era. I have said everything was going to be a moderate hit and aside of 'Judas' it has been. Why is anyone acting like this is such a complicated situation? She created a pop album that is/was supposed to be full of messages and not 'cut out' hits. This album isn't a make it or break it situation. It depends what she does NEXT. Will she continue this root or go back to completely commercial? This all said, and sorry for my long post, GaGa's original two dancers (the girls, dina and pepper) are in GaGa's new video. Did i miss this here?

It really is down to her. If she wanted to create an album of Bad Romance knock-offs, she easily could... but obviously doesn't/didn't want to.

She'll definitely have to add huge pop hits with anthemic choruses if she wants to remain a chart topper. I don't think she really cares, but her label might be behind such a decision. I think the next album will have more of them, but won't be drastically different.

She doesn't need to keep rehashing her past hits. She needs to keep reinventing herself to stay fresh and exciting. Right now, everything is just sort of "Gaga being Gaga." So for the next era, I think she should do a 180, completely switch up her style and get people talking again. Born This Way is brash and in-your-face and over-the-top. Maybe for the next step she can go soft and pretty and something completely different. Back to this song though, it just feels like an era closer to me and I don't see any future singles getting released after this.

I don't think MTN is the last single. I have a feeling the original plan was to go 8-9 singles deep and make BTW an epic era so I still think we'll get 6-7 (Hair, Schiesse). I think Marry The Night will do fine enough...probably a little worse than Y&I.
Did she get anything out of BTW as big as Bad Romance or Poker Face? No. But Born This Way was #1 for 6 weeks and I believe will hold up as one of her more memorable hits. TEOG peaked in the top 3 and seems to be settling in to a nice place in recurrent land (Top 40, HAC and AC).
She won 2 VMAs, is nominated for 3 AMAs and is probably due for 3-5 more Grammy nominations.
When the Billboard 2011 year-end issue is released, she'll likely be #3 on the Album Artist list and will be near the middle of the top 10 on the Hot 100 Artist list.

I personally think that, in the long run, this album will be remembered. And definitely the title track will go down as one of the most memorable musical events of this particular period in music. Just Dance and Poker Face might have been bigger radio hits but I definitely fully believe that Born This Way is the one that will keep GaGa in the books for years to come. Sometimes, you really need to look beyond the week-to-week charts because there are some aspects of music and hit-making that isn't really measured by the Hot 100 or radio.

I don't know if we have discussed the video, but the dancers have on pink and teal leotards and in my head I always saw a pink and teal color scheme for this song. Don't know why, but I am excited Since the video has already been shot I wonder if we will get it pretty quickly. I am assuming they will want some major promo going into November sales so maybe early to mid November for the video.

I'm gonna be laughing my ass off if this song is a hit. I enjoy the song, but it just doesn't sound radio friendly to me... but I wish the best for Gaga, so I hope it smashes.
(and I know you were joking, Crox, but I'll still think it's so funny if this song smashes when most of her fans think this is a mediocre choice for a single - like I do).
