I thought Kellie's performance was great. WTT is a good song, but it isn't one of my favorites from the album. But I don't think 100 Proof was a better selection for her Idol performance, since its not doing anything at radio yet and the fans would probably take better to an uptempo than a ballad.
I still have a lot of hope for this single's success, and I don't think her song selection on Idol is really going to negatively affect that at all. She's not a big enough artist where debuting a new single live on a big format like that would be her best promotional tool: she'd be better off doing something like that later on in the song's chart run once radio has started playing it.

I'm not trying to start anything or be rude, but I was listening to the pop station I listen to this morning on my way to work and they were talking about AI and her being on and their biggest question was: What the hell happened to her?? They were talking about her looks....like something in the face or maybe a loss of weight, but they were saying she looked really bad. Did she look different than normal?

Season 5's Kellie Pickler returned to the American Idol stage at the Top 8 results show to perform the lead track off her new album 100 Proof. Watch Kellie perform "Where's Tammy Wynette".

Kinda harsh of that radio station. She looked pretty. I am just going to assume they were never fans of her or hate country. There are other things out there they should bashing in the pop world besides this performance.

They do like country actually....one of them used to be on country radio I believe. And I think from the video that was posted that she looks REALLY skinny.....and I remember one of them saying maybe they thought that was it. If that's what they thought, I agree.

I don't think she's to skinny, She looks great. People are going to try and find something wrong even when there is nothing. I remember when they done another Idol the same way. And even here on the pulse board, you can read old post from people who will always find something wrong with one artist in every one of their post. So best to just take it with a grain of sand.

I enjoy some of Kelle's material and I think she's absolutely adorable, but I can see why she hasn't caught on in the country music community. Her voice, personality, and music (to an extent) is very polarizing, IMO. She's got a "love it or hate it" vibe about her as a person and artist, and she doesn't have the advantage of being as accessible as her peers like Taylor or Carrie.
I've always felt Kellie DOES have something worthwhile to say as an artist. But when you've got a personality and voice as polarizing as hers from an artist who doesn't come across as knowing who SHE is that already complicates a sticky situation.
One side of Kellie hasn't really "stuck" with the public, so I can see why she'd try different styles, but it's not really putting her at an advantage, either. Even when radio did support her with "Red High Heels," "Making Me Fall In Love Again," "I Wonder," "Best Days Of Your Life," she still wasn't catching on with the public. She's toured with some of the biggest superstars in country music too...Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Sugarland & you can't get any bigger than Taylor Swift.
I do sympathize with Kellie, but at the same time it's a competitive world out there; Kellie HAS gotten plenty of opportunities to build a fanbase and establish herself at radio, but obviously something is not sticking. I know she's at a disadvantage having Taylor and Carrie to compete with, but it's not their fault they're connecting with an audience and she is not. Yes, I understand she has a lot of disadvantages, but considering the number of artists who would kill to have the opportunities/chances she has had, part of me finds it difficult to feel THAT bad for her.
I feel like people are jumping on the "poor Kellie" bandwagon without actually thinking about the fact that she has been given plenty of chances to establish herself. It's not like she's being left out in the cold (which, frankly, could've happened a long time ago). I also don't think every artist is MEANT to be a superstar; Kellie seems happy with where she is, and I have a hard time believing she'll have a true breakthrough if she hasn't had one by now.

I will say that lots of times I don't like Kellie's hair and the Idol appearance was one of those times. Kellie seems to just let these stylists do what they want & it just doesn't do her any favors. She has dropped weight this past year, but I just saw her in concert 6 weeks ago and she isn't too skinny. Maybe everyone thinks that way cause she did get a little heavy a while back, too heavy for her body size,
As far as Kellie's music, I think she knows what she wanted to make from the beginning, but wasn't allowed to by her label. They picked most of the songs on her 1st album, then thought they would ride the Taylor wave when she was on the Fearless tour. Kellie's album was catered for that tour & it blew up in their face. I understood she couldn't go sing songs like these on 100 Proof to the tweens, but they screwed up big time with that 2nd album & it hurt Kellie at radio.
Now she has finally made a great album, probably one of the best far 2012 IMO. But is it to country for radio. There are a few good songs that may get into the Top 20 but are they going to release them, who knows. This 3rd album fulfills Kellie's contract for 3 albums & unfortunately it will probably be her last with Sony. Without big sales, I can't see them putting out another one in the future.
I just think it's sad that radio only has a certain amount of artists that they will play and never give some really great music a chance to be heard. I'm not only talking about Kellie's music, there are lots of artists that will never get played with great music. That's why I listen to Sirius radio or my cd's, just don't want to listen to all this pop/rock/country.

I feel like Kellie already has "established" herself. She doesn't has become a superstar at the format. But hey, for a female artist at country radio, 5/8 singles reaching the Top 20 is really good. I want, as a huge fan of Kellie Pickler, to see her score bigger hits (#1s, i.e.), but I have to admit that thus far she has done alright.
I can agree with the polarizing factor, but at the same time, I feel like that could easily be applied to almost any woman in country music. Its just a man's world on country radio. I've seen lots of negative reception to Taylor and Carrie by country listeners, too. They just have bigger fanbases to overcome it.

About the comments on the AI appearance, people will always find something to criticize. First, she had a boob job and gained weight, now she's anorexic and needs to "eat a cheeseburger". Case and point, you can't ever make people happy. They'll always have to find something to criticize to make themselves feel better.
I don't see Kellie's voice being any more polarizing than half of the males played on regular rotation, many of whom have thick country accents. In fact, most of the music on "100 Proof" is very radio friendly. "Unlock That Honky Tonk", "Turn On The Radio and Dance", "Rockaway", and "100 Proof" are all songs that I could hear on today's country scene.
I do believe that Kellie's marketing team has made many poor decisions. Releasing "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" first on "Kellie Pickler" is one of the biggest ones, I think. Also, moving the release date from December to January served absolutely no purpose. I think that releasing her second album, "Kellie Pickler", really hurt Kellie's integrity to a lot of fans. The pop sound was nothing like her first album, and I feel like many people were refreshed by her genuine country voice on "Small Town Girl". She just needs to pick those fans back up, and "100 Proof" is the most country thing she's ever released.
In any case, I'm glad Kellie has found herself. "100 Proof" is certainly where Kellie should be artistically, and it is a superior musical product. I don't think Kellie is particularly worried or concerned about selling records. She's concerned with doing what she loves, and her fans (myself included), will be fans for life. I have no qualms with her releasing a new CD on a smaller label. I think she'd be given more artistic freedom and who knows, perhaps better promotion.
But let's not jump the gun, I still hope for "100 Proof" to smash. :)

About the comments on the AI appearance, people will always find something to criticize. First, she had a boob job and gained weight, now she's anorexic and needs to "eat a cheeseburger". Agreed. Also, it's easier to pick someone apart when they're not exactly riding high and Kellie hasn't been around much, and most people may have forgotten about her a little bit, especially the general Idol audience. She's got such a good album to work with, and clearly takes her career seriously. Will others take her seriously, that's where these comments stem from. I hope that radio doesn't completely abandon her.

They were talking about her looks....like something in the face or maybe a loss of weight, but they were saying she looked really bad. Did she look different than normal? I think Kellie is beautiful, but I did a double-take when I saw this picture yesterday: I don't know if it's the makeup, the hairstyle or what, but it kind of struck me that Kellie looks a lot older in that photo. There's probably nothing to it, but I noticed it when I saw this photo in particular. On another note, I watched the Idol performance yesterday and I thought it was fantastic. She has really grown into a great performer and singer since her Idol days a few short years ago. The performance was so dynamic, and she seemed so comfortable onstage and in her element. I've never considered myself much of a fan, but I've gained so much respect for her over the past few months. She's a great entertainer, and she seems like a passionate person who truly loves what she does and could care less about the fame. It's really refreshing, and even if the album doesn't garner commercial success, I look at Kellie as a completely different artist now because she did something she wanted to do. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Kellie knew an album like this would be a risk and she wasn't expecting to see much commercial success with it. You only have to glance at the current radio climate to realize this kind of record isn't going to be popular among radio programmers, much less ones who only support a select few female artists. Perhaps Kellie just wanted to make an artistic statement, and I don't blame her for seizing the opportunity.

I don't see anything wrong with how Kellie Pickler looks. She still looks young and beautiful to me, as always.

I often wonder how much is enough for the label. I know the answer is pretty much different in every situation, but in Kellie's case, would 100,000 be enough to make them happy? 75,000?

Not bad after such a long break between singles. Plus she has no real radio momentum to take advantage of. We'll see how it goes in the coming weeks. I'm looking forward to see her perform this live next Monday!

Thanks for posting that. She pretty much knocked it out of the park. She really should have done this song on Idol.
