Yea it was a little rough around the edges. I wouldn't call it an abysmal performance by any means. Carrie just consistently delivers such amazing performances that when we have an ok performance it's like the world is crumbling.
The main issue here were nerves and breath control. She ran out of breath a LOT. Kelly stans who browse this forum will remember Kelly had the same problem with Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) and now she has it under control. Carrie will learn how to sing it, where to take breaths, how to move, when she can move, etc etc. The venues she's been performing haven't been on the HUGE stages with all the production. She just needs to rehearse the breath control more and she'll be great.

It may have not been a perfect vocal but it is not as bad as some people have made it out to be. It will take her a few performances to get use to singing this song.
Here is another impressive tweet
@tednugent CarrieUnderwood killed like mankind rarely witnesses. this woman is so gifted with so much soul it moves & inspires beyond measure. go woman

Vegas Magazine: Carrie Underwood Leaves Us Blown AwayExcerpt: Don’t expect her usual mix of weepy sagas (like “Just a Dream”) and angry chick tunes (think “Before He Cheats”). Underwood’s fourth compilation will be a marked change from her first three. “I’ve always been known for power ballads, and there’s not really that at all in the album,” she says. “I honestly think it’s just because the album kind of makes itself. We’ll look at the end and think what could we use more of, but it is what it is. I don’t think, Oh, I need this power ballad. If you can’t find a song like that, you don’t force it. I have one song that’s so beautiful and so moving but it’s so quiet. It’s a story, and you really listen to it—I’m not trying to impress people with what I can do. I’ve done enough by now that I don’t have to sing to the moon with every single song.”
The first single from Blown Away hit airwaves in February and is decidedly the album’s most upbeat track, she says. “‘Good Girl’ is about that girl that you know or you have been—I know and I have been this girl before—and she’s got stars in her eyes and the guy isn’t good enough for her and doing Lord knows what behind her back, and she thinks the world of him. Love is blind, right? So she doesn’t see him for what he is. And I’m the one trying to talk some sense into her: ‘What is wrong with you? You’re awesome, and you’re with…that?’ It’s really rocking—it’s definitely a foot-tapper.” The rest of the album, however, will lean toward the melodramatic. “There’s a little bit of a darker side to it,” she says. “It’s just stormier.”

I just hope the album isn't too slow or dark...I love my upbeats! I bet it'll be a good mix though. Carnival ride was great in my opinion. It had great upbeats and ballads. A lot to offer. I'm still pumped for this album though!

Blitzer capped it on CF. The band sounds just fine there. Carrie did great, I think!!

Headed over here to see what all the fuss was about, and I have to agree with what's already said. It was very shaky and rough leading up to the bridge, but from then on, she wasn't horrible, but not great either. Overall, the entire performance is still more than what 90% of popular singers today can accomplish.

In the video on youtube she sounded good. I wouldn't call that bad. Breathy and I could tell there were nerves. But definitely not bad.

Carrie lost to Miranda for Vocal. Hey,all you voters, don't you guys get bored for choosing the same winner again and again? SHAME ON YOUR POLITICs! People were saying that when Carrie kept winning. Anyway, Miranda and Taylor have been the big females the past couple of years in terms of hits and critics. Carrie can hopefully get the CMA as she will have a few big singles by then.

My local radio station typically doesn't play a ton of Carrie.. and when they talk about her it's usually negative... This morning I woke up to Good Girl... and the DJ afterward talked about how good Carrie was on the ACM's last night...and then played her singing Good Girl live last night... she sounded just like the single!! When performances sway the critics you know it was pretty good!!

Carrie has said, back in the fall, that the cd was tempo heavy and she was looking for some slower songs.Of course with the final product that could have all changed. either way I'm excited to hear it

I don't know if it was my TV, but I thought there were sound issues. The band was extremely loud and I could barely hear Jamie singing. The only complaint I had is that the clapping should be been more prominent. It's a major part of the song and it was either too quiet, or it was the sound issues that made it sound that way. Other than that, I thought Carrie did an incredible job with a very difficult song.

Add SMASH soundtrack to Carrie's competition on May 1st... in a way, Carrie will be competing against Kat McPhee, fellow Idol...

Do TV show soundtracks typically sell enough to be a real competition to Carrie's likely 300k+ opening week?

I'm getting anxious to listen to the clips of all the songs, hope they are up soon. As a reference Play On's clips were up on October 17th 2009 I believe. A few weeks before the November 3rd release date. It may be another few weeks. But you never know

I'd say at least 2 more weeks until clips emerge.

I heard Carrie sing GG on the facebook edition and she sounded really great. I think she tried really hard at the ACMs and was having some breathing problems. But, it's a difficult song to sing and I'm sure she'll fix the breath control. It wasn't a big deal, but Carrie's singing is always top notch, so it was a glitch. Having said that, it sure is nice to hear actual "live" singing as compared to the usual pop/rock/hiphop lipsync maddness.

i think all that carrie needs is practice. she hasnt had so many chances singing gg live yet that things like breath control, breaks, etc., do not come as automatic to her yet. give her time, and she'll nail it like always. i remember the same complaints about earlier performances for undo it, but she eventually found her groove.

Honestly I feel like Carrie wouldn't perform on the Xfactor.

I do like Carrie. In fact, i love her so much.
But i gotta say that she's lost a bunch of fans fans since the Some Hearts era and her fans keep decreasing.
I honestly think that Carrie has changed her image (to the sexier one) to attract new market.
Stans will definitely buy BLOWN AWAY no matter what and Carrie knows that.
But casual listeners won't buy it if they don't find it interesting. That's why Carrie steps out of her comfort zone and make her music looks more 'pop' now. It's still country, but looks more pop, The video, the look, the image, the cover.
and if Carrie wants to sell at least 2 million, she HAVE TO cross-over to Pop. I can see BA hitting Platinum, but it will struggle to reach 1.5 million. She and her label have to push all the singles from BA to Pop. This way, BA will be huge.
Country voters in an award show don't like Carrie that much anymore. The only way to get their attention back is by impacting the Pop world like Taylor and Lady Antebellum did.

I'm really curious as to what you're basing your sales figures on. The album isn't even out yet, at Good Girl is selling very well.

All she said was that she wouldn't want to be a judge on the show. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Carrie has said she isn't even sure if she'd want to be a judge on Idol. I don't think Simon would 'ban' Carrie from the X-Factor over that comment. Even if she had said that she hates the show, Simon would probably still want her on because she draws ratings lol.
