Gotye's third album Making Mirrors has been a huge hit internationally and is now coming to the US and UK! "Somebody That I Used To Know" was one of the biggest hits of 2011; it moves into the top 50 of the Hot 100 this week and is due to go top 20 in the UK on Sunday.
"Eyes Wide Open" #55 Australia.
"Somebody That I Used To Know" #1 Australia, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand.

Glee and SNL in one week should make sales (for single and the album) skyrocket.

I was really surprised by the sound of the album considering Somebody That I Used To Know. I expected a very minimalist-sounding record but it's really anything but. It's actually a very interesting sounding album. From the acoustic to the electronic to motown. I wrote a review of it a few weeks back: www.themaxonline.net/2012/02/16/music-review-making-mirrors/

This album is the first I've ever called "over-rated." It's been a good two months since I've listened; maybe it's about time I give it a second chance.

Otherwise known as the album in which Gotye gives a master class in how to screw cohesion and still make a really dope, hot album. Untouchable, unf*ckwitable, flawless from top to bottom and damn, does this man perform live. Even songs I wasn't keen on came alive in the most palpable way imaginable. I'm a stan and I know it.

His SNL performances of "Somebody..." and "Eyes Wide Open" were flawlessly executed, as I expected they would be. Again, just goes to show that a really talented live act will trump SNL's notoriously s**tty sound. I hate seeing that excuse for why an artist sounds like s**t on SNL. I have seen some pretty amazing performances on that show. Usually, the people who sound like shit, I expect them to sound like s**t.
Oh...and that digital short was just...LMAO.

The album is a gem!!!!
Currently I'm jamming and loving Giving Me A Chance (such suave song) and Bronte (amanzing track).
Hopefully this albums gets the recognition it deserves.

So far I love Bronte, Giving me a chance, In your light etc. Too bad majority of it, wont play on radio, more folks need to know the genius of this man. Hopefully on his next album. This close to buying it.
Its just a great album, many of the songs completely different from the next, seriously he has a lil bit for every taste.
And seriously right up there with the best live performers, just unbelievable.

Gotye is such a great live performer. Seriously, he is the whole package live. I love visuals in a live show and he incorporates unique visuals for each song.

I never loved so much a remix like I love Somebody That I Used To Know(Tiësto Remix).

Probably not necessary to make a new thread for it since I don't believe it will interrupt the Making Mirrors "era," but apparently his second album, Like Drawing Blood, will be released in the US this July.

^ It's been available on iTunes and Amazon for a while now, I guess it's a good opportunity to capitalize off his newfound fame in the states by releasing "Like Drawing Blood" physically.

Wow, I've never quite get the hype with Making Mirrors, but I just discovered his two old albums and they're 10 times more brilliant than Mirrors. They're so much more sophisticated than those popular generic EDM out there. I'm in love. Maybe I'll give Mirrors another listen too.

Oh okay, I saw this album come in the shipment at work and was curious as to why there wasn't any promo for this 'new' album? I wonder if his label will consider releasing any of the singles off it (especially since "Hearts a Mess" is featured in the soundtrack to "The Great Gatsby") in the US?

Gotye appears to give utterly zero cares as to if America ever remembers him, so probably not.
