Wow, her AND Fran Drescher? I guess I must make many trips next year to NY to see plays in Feb ("Cinderella"), March ("After Midnight" w/Toni Braxton & Babyface) and April (Neil Patrick Harris in "Hedwig and the Angry Itch").

I don't watch the Tonys, but if she should get nominated, that might change. And since it's only for 3 months, there's still room for her to have another summer hit. I'll be waiting ;) She can't be nominated for a Tony, she didn't originate the role, she's a replacement.

if the shoe fits Carly Rae Jepsen's Cinderella Story Comes To Broadway by Whitney Spaner / photographed by Diggy Lloyd / styled by June Ambrose Last year at this time, Carly Rae Jepsen was fresh off her opening gig on Justin Bieber's Believe Tour, after her ubiquitous pop hit "Call Me Maybe" broke Billboard records and inspired hundreds of internet memes. Everyone from Bieber and Selena Gomez to Harvard's baseball team made videos of themselves singing, "Here's my number, so call me maybe!" But this year the two Canadian singers, who share the manager Scooter Braun, are in much different places. While Bieber's laying low after he was arrested for a DUI last month, Jepsen's making her Broadway debut as Cinderella. "It's always been on my bucket list," says Jepsen of performing on the Great White Way. "My family is more excited about this than anything. I was like, 'I'm going on tour with Justin Bieber and I'm going to be at the Grammys,' and they're like, 'OK great,' and then I'm like, 'I'm going to be on Broadway,' and they're like, 'What!? We're going to book our tickets!' It's just such a funny reaction, but I think it's because I grew up being in musicals. It was something I was always involved in and had a passion for at a young age, so it made sense to them. I think they always thought that was the direction I would take and it was a bit of a surprise that I got kind of addicted to pop." Though she says that she might never have gotten to Broadway if not for her pop star pedigree, her goal is not to "popify" the classic tale. Stepping into the role originated by Broadway sweetheart Laura Osnes, Jepsen has been learning to sing like a musical theater star again after so many years singing her own tunes. "It's all a brave new world for me to take on not just the songs but to do them as much musical theater justice as I can," the 28-year-old says. "But I think we've all been figuring out the happy balance between sounding like me and still making it sound like a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical." After she wraps up her limited-time-only engagement, she'll head back to L.A. to work on the follow-up to her American debut album Kiss, but for now she's enjoying being someone else for a while. "It was a little scary the first day or two trying on the dresses, but once it was all together with the makeup and the hair and the dress and the slippers I didn't feel like myself, but in a very confident way. I was like, I'm a princess--let's just be this for a minute." www.papermag.com/2014/02/carly_rae_jepsen_cinderella.php

‘Cinderella’ Star Carly Rae Jepsen on the Quick Lesson She Learned About FameBy Mara Schiavocampo and Mary-Rose Abraham 13 hours ago Newsmakers When Carly Rae Jepsen first joined the cast of Broadway’s “Cinderella,” she recalled a conversation with the stage manager about fame. “He said, ‘The funny thing about being famous is that we all know this about you,’ and he went on to explain something that he thought he knew. And I said, ‘Actually the funny thing about being famous is that everyone thinks that they know things,’ and we kind of figured out the truth of it together. The quick lesson that I learned is that none of the fame part is really real.” That explains why Jepsen – whose hit single “Call Me Maybe” quickly escalated her singing career – has been able to stay grounded, feel grateful for her fans’ support, and focused on what she loves most: the music. She is currently working on her next album, writing songs she calls very “personal and from the heart,” in between a hectic schedule of eight shows a week as Cinderella opposite Fran Drescher, who plays her wicked stepmother. Jepsen, 28, returned to her musical theater roots – she performed in various productions during high school – but it was Drescher who gave her a crucial piece of advice on the very first day they worked together, a commercial shoot to promote the show. “I was all timid and shy, and she said, ‘The one regret I’ve ever had was not giving it my all. If you go out there and give it too much, you’re never going to feel bad, but if you go out there and not give enough you’re going to be forever losing sleep over it.’ So the second time I did it with some guts she said, “That a girl!’” Jepsen said she is “taking my sweet time” with her next album. So can we expect something a little edgier than the sweetness of her earlier music and her current role? “There’s a true sort of romantic side of me, a good old-fashioned cheeseball who loves the story of Cinderella, of the kind of fairy tale. And for ‘Call Me Maybe’ it was actually more my coy side coming out so that’s about as bad as I get really,” she laughed. “I don’t have any desire to do anything that kind of outrageous. It’s not that I don’t have a dark side or a more serious side but I think that comes out in the music that I’m making and I guess you’ll have to wait and see in this new album. I don’t have any desire to rebel and be something totally different from what I am.” ABC News' David Miller and Arthur Niemynski contributed to this episode. news.yahoo.com/blogs/newsmakers/cinderella-star-carly-rae-jepsen-quick-lesson-she-142018341.html?vp=1

I just want a follow-up ASAP. Kiss is admittedly an incredibly solid pop album that deserved more recognition.

Kiss had so much potential, and quite a few tracks were actually pop perfection.
I hope her new single drops as soon as she finishes on Cinderella, but I doubt we'll get anything new until next year at this rate ugh.

She looks great, and they're cute together, but I'm not quite sure her voice is best suited for Broadway. Anyone heard any reviews on the show about her or Fran Drescher?
