Oh, I'm not concerned about that- I had to point the sale out to someone, who was perplexed as to why Madge's album all of a sudden dropped from 12 to 23 on iTunes. It is something what a sale can do for certain albums. i wonder what % of the 40-45k is coming from 2nd week redemptions You made it very clear in your declarations last week that it was only a one-week promotion. Are you side-stepping now?

The next few weeks seem a bit barren for new releases. Is Adele poised to move ahead of Prince & Saturday Night Fever for weeks at #1?

I dunno. How likely are Monica (Apr 10), Jason Mraz (Apr 17) and The Wanted (Apr 24) to sell enough to be #1? Carrie (May 1) will definitely be #1. And there's Chris the week after her.

I think Mraz has the possibility to sell enough for #1

A number of titles now are sale priced at $6.99 at iTunes, causing them to sprint up the chart: ranked in or near the top 20 are Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Foster the People, Van Halen, Sublime, Norah Jones, Dr. Dre, John Mayer. I imagine these took effect today? Kinda late in the week to make a significant difference for this week's chart, though. According to the email I got, those discounts are just today through Wednesday.

I'm still not sure The Wanted can top 100K. Their online stanbase still isn't nearly as big as One Direction's and they could fall in the LMFAO / Jason DeRulo category as "single sellers".

I'd say Jason Mraz (or even Train) has the possibility of beating Adele their release week (April 17). I do think that she'll return to #1 next week though, after Nicki Minaj, if only for a week. I doubt Monica will outsell her.
I agree that Carrie will most likely get #1 May 1st, but I also wouldn't complete discount Norah Jones.

Norah's last album was a duets one, wasn't it? Is this her first studio album proper since Feels Like Home?

Norah Jones has also done Little Willies projects
but yes, as far as proper solo studio albums goes, I think you are correct

Ah, that's right- The Fall. That's exactly what it was, too, compared to its predecessors. And before that was 2007's Not Too Late. Why were we forgetting those, 2m? ???

Yeah; I think it's far-fetched to think Norah will get a #1 when Carrie's last album outsold hers by something like 150 or 200k.

Although I agree in this case but not for the same reason, prior album sales are usually not the best barometer for current sales
Norah Jones album is the type that will likely sell slow and steady
Carrie Underwood will have bigger out of the box sales due to the hit single

I don't want to predict against Adele any more because seems she can do anything.

Her subsequent studio albums have opened well enough but steadily declined thereafter. I think she is like any other singer-songwriter at this point in her career; the album will open fairly well and then drop fairly quickly. I don't see a long shelf-life for this without a single that finds some mainstream success.

Perhaps
By 'slow and steady' I wasn't trying to imply what her final sales total will be
It will naturally be much lower than her first two albums
As far as a single goes, she is not a pop artist. The single buying market is not her audience
At whatever the final total will be, those that buy it won't necessarily show up on the first day and they won't be looking for singles. Those that buy her music will do so for the album.

I think MDNA may be higher to 55K, no? I know these numbers don't usually just double, but can't imagine only 5-10K more coming in.

Exclusive: Madonna "MDNA" Will Have Biggest Second Week Drop in Chart History www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfriedman/2012/04/09/madonna-mdna-will-have-biggest-second-week-drop-in-chart-history/ Madonna‘s “MDNA” album had the biggest second week drop in chart history last week, I am told. When all the numbers are in on Tuesday night, “MDNA” will have fallen from number 1 by 88%–from 359,000 copies in its first week to roughly 46,000 the second week. Wow. The first week’s sales, as I revealed exclusively (and then the New York Post lifted it from us), most of Madonna’s first week sales were CDs that were included in the sale of concert tickets. That promotion artificially inflated Madonna’s numbers, putting her first before Lionel Richie and his “Tuskegee” album. In the second week, Richie fell only 47% and sold about 110,000 albums–which is normal. “Tuskegee” will now finish much higher than “MDNA.” I do think that all the people involved in the Madonna ticket-CD deal should apologize to Richie for denying him his rightful place at number 1, starting with Billboard and SoundScan. But Richie’s consolation is that he has a major hit, while “MDNA” is a total dud. So far, “MDNA” has not produced anything like a hit single either, no radio play or anything to provide organic promotion. But Madonna’s concert tour with Live Nation will be a big hit, so it’s not like we have to worry about her financial situation. www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfriedman/2012/04/09/madonna-may-have-problems-with-the-new-president-of-malawi-she-fired-her-sister/www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfriedman/2012/04/03/madonna-mdna-will-be-number-1-in-us-but-maybe-not-really/
