One of the most hectic weeks in a while. AT40 seems to be catching up with their lateness, this chart is about one and a half week behind actual chart data, which is nice. Some very big jumps this week, as well as 4 debuts. LW TW WKS Artist Song-- 40 (01) Neon Trees - Everybody Talks -- 39 (01) Rita Ora - How We Do (Party) 29 38 (20) Pitbull - International Love (feat. (Guess Ryan will confirm that when the show airs)
- David Guetta's "Without You" spends 5 weeks in a row at #34

I don't know, but a 25 notch jump may be the record. The next highest ones I can think of were "I'll Be There" by Mariah Carey (40-16) in 1992 and "Makes Me Wonder" by Maroon 5 in 2007 (36-12). Each jumped 24 notches in a week. If this is a record I think Ryan will point it out.
Speaking of Maroon 5 and fast moves, they reenter the top 10 in only the third week on as "Moves Like Jagger" finally exits; in what seems to be a bit of a purge, it's one of 3 arguably long overdue droppers. Now if only Guetta/Usher and LMFAO would follow suit...
(Incidentally, "Without You"'s 5 weeks at #34 are bested by the Script's "The Man That Can't Be Moved", which sat in that spot for 6 straight weeks.)

If we're talking about American Top 40 during the Billboard era, "Le Freak" by Chic jumped 37-6 in one week in November 1978, a gain of 31 spots. Since they're using R&R, this won't be mentioned, but I think that's the true record.

I just looked through the AT40 archives and both on the Top40 and the Hot AC, it didn't jump from 36-12 from what I can see... it did make quite a big jump on the Top40 chart though, vaulting 37-21. Maybe you're referring to Mediabase or the Billboard Pop Chart?

geometrical, I have to ask. How in the world did you figure out how to get the chart early? Obviously, it's buried in the web site, but there is no direct link to it. Navigating to the chart page, we see that the most recent chart is 5/19, and that will remain the case until the weekend when the page gets, formally, updated. The only clue I see is that there is a 5 digit suffix in the web address for each chart and those numbers ascend with the date. i.e. ... May 26 = www.at40.com/top-40/chart/21967May 19 = www.at40.com/top-40/chart/21911May 12 = www.at40.com/top-40/chart/21860May 05 = www.at40.com/top-40/chart/21834...etc. I have found no rhyme or reason for the numbering scheme. Did you, somehow, stumble onto an algorithm for determining the next number? I must know. __ Lots of nice movement this week. I was expecting "Scream" to jump into the mid-20s, not #15. Nice jump for "Where Have You Been", too. Pleasantly surprised to see Neon Trees, as well. "Everybody Talks" is running out of steam on Mediabase so I didn't think we would see it on this chart.

I was referring to AT40 for the week of April 28, 2007: pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pop&action=display&thread=7915(Note: the AT40 back charts listed on the AT40 website from 2004 on don't necessarily match what Ryan actually counted down at the time, which were posted on this board each week.) I agree, as it seems to have stalled in the mid-30s on Mediabase. IIRC, Neon Trees also got to about that level on MB with "Your Surrender", but it never made AT40.

It was during that same week when Casey was introducing the song when he did a story on the biggest jumps of all-time. One of them was by David Seville in the late '50s. And the biggest was "Are You Lonesome Tonight" by Elvis (I forget the exact number of spots). Both "Secret" and "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" made hefty leaps on the R&R chart, but I don't think they were more than 25 spots. Ryan may just say that "Scream" is the biggest mover of the century. Otherwise, it may have been the biggest leap since Elvis, unless there was another song between 1960 and now that moved up more than 25 spots but less than 30-something. Hopefully we'll find out this weekend!

Both "Secret" and "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" made hefty leaps on the R&R chart, but I don't think they were more than 25 spots. Just to update these pre-American Top 40 leaps: "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" rose from 37-10 on the Hot 100 dated December 15, 1958, a gain of 27 notches. "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" took a 33-spot leap from 35-2 on the Hot 100 dated November 21, 1960. R&R: "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" went 36-12 (24 spots), but there was a 2-week holiday break inbetween. "I'll Be There" jumped the same number of spots (without a break), from 40-16, in 1992. "Secret" went 30-8 (22 spots) in 1994.

This chart is a week ahead of my prediction. This might be an indication that the show will be more current but we need to see a few more charts to make sure. If not, then the chart will slow to a crawl next week.

On the subject of AT40 record jumps, it requires an asterisk, but Michael Jackson's "Black or White" jumped 35-2 on the week AT40 switched to Hot 100 Airplay in 1991.

Looking a few weeks ahead, Jimmy Fallon will be guest-hosting AT40 on the weekend of June 9-10. Previously, he guest-hosted the weekend of December 3-4, 2011.

"MANDATORY" EXTRAS: Breakout: Gym Class Heroes featuring Ryan Tedder - The Fighter (between #33 and #32) On The Verge: Hot Chelle Rae - Honestly (between #30 and #29) Extra: Outasight - Tonight Is The Night (between #30 and #29, back-to-back extras) Extra: Megan and Liz - Are You Happy Now? (between #14 and #13) Breakout: Kirko Bangz - Drank In My Cup (between #8 and #7)
OPTIONAL EXTRAS (In Order Played): Jesse McCartney - Leavin' The Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up Far*East Movement featuring The Cataracs and Dev - Like A G6 Daughtry - Home
Ryan said that "Scream" is the biggest mover since 1964. The Beatles moved 25+ spots with "Can't Buy Me Love". In "real" AT40 history, Michael Jackson had a bigger move (and still the record, I believe), moving up 33 in 1991 with "Black Or White".
Unless I misssed it (I was getting ready to leave for the long weekend), Ryan made no mention of Robin Gibb's death. I figured he'd, probably, say something this week.

"Black Or White" was #35 on AT40 (with Shadoe Stevens) on 11/23/91 and #2 the following week, but that probably doesn't count because that's the same week AT40 went from the Billboard Hot 100 to the Top 40 Radio Monitor. In any event, Ryan probably wouldn't cite that anyway since for chart data from 1973 on he uses Radio & Records/Mediabase, as Casey Kasem did starting in 1989.

The Beatles leaping into the top spot like that is even more amazing as I cannot recall a song hitting the top of the chart from outside the top 20 in my lifetime. And before anyone says anything, I'm not counting the Hot 100 chart where songs routinely debut at the top since they reformatted the chart back in 1991. I'm just counting the radio airplay charts going back to the 80's and earlier. Regarding this week's chart, nice to see an active week like this on AT40. The same can't be said for the AT40 Hot AC chart which has been stale for three weeks in a row. However, based on the Mediabase Hot AC charts, it looks like Carly Rae Jepsen is due for a huge jump next week of potentially 15+ spots.

I think AT40 stacked the deck by jumping ahead one week more than where they should be.

4/4/64 was the week, as I've mentioned before, that the Beatles owned the top 5. There's actually a Bee Gees connection here. The TV show, The Insider, said after Robin's death that The Bee Gees were the only group that ever had 5 different songs in the top 10 at the same time. Obviously not true. No 241's this week, though Rihanna was played back to back. Actually there are two "Back" songs in a row on the countdown, though they weren't played back to back. LOL Not counting featured artists, the shorter the artist/group's name in the top 4, the higher the song. Quite a week on AT 40!

I wish I had found this a couple of weeks ago: at40fg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=classic&action=display&thread=2478&page=1Over on the "AT40 Fun & Games" forum, they've been compiling a list of songs that have moved 20 notches or more during Casey's original AT40 run (1970-1988). I don't know how complete of a list it is, but it looks pretty good. I have simplified the list to show, only, songs that made this move within the top 40. Songs in bold have matched or exceeded Usher's 25 spot jump. Ryan claimed "Scream" was the biggest mover since this song... 04/04/1964 The Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love (+26, 27-1)Since AT40 debuted, we've seen... 07/04/1970 The Carpenters - (They Long To Be) Close To You (+23, 37-14) 09/26/1970 The Jackson 5 - I'll Be There (+21, 40-19) 09/26/1970 Sugarloaf - Green-Eyed Lady (+21, 39-18) 01/30/1971 The Osmonds - One Bad Apple (Don't Spoil The Whole Bunch) (+25, 34-9) 05/08/1971 The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar (+27, 40-13) 11/13/1971 Michael Jackson - Got To Be There (+26, 39-13)01/29/1972 Apollo 100 - Joy (+20, 35-15) 01/29/1972 The Carpenters - Hurting Each Other (+25, 38-13)02/05/1972 The Osmonds - Down By The Lazy River (+20, 32-12) 03/11/1972 Donnie Osmond - Puppy Love (+27, 38-11) 12/23/1972 Carly Simon - You're So Vain (+28, 37-9)06/23/1973 The Carpenters - Yesterday Once More (+22, 38-16) R&R launched in the fall of 1973, so the following don't count towards the "current" AT40 history, they do for the "real" AT40 history... 11/23/1974 Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting (+20, 27-7) 11/30/1974 Bachman-Turner Overdrive - You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet (+26, 34-8) 12/14/1974 Elton John - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (+27, 36-9)06/21/1975 Van McCoy and The Soul City Symphony - The Hustle (+22, 29-7) 10/25/1975 Elton John - Island Girl (+28, 36-8)06/26/1976 The Beach Boys - Rock And Roll Music (+21, 40-19) 11/26/1977 Player - Baby Come Back (+21, 38-17) 11/25/1978 Chic - Le Freak (+31, 37-6)04/07/1979 Wings - Goodnight Tonight (+22, 38-16) 06/02/1979 Anita Ward - Ring My Bell (+20, 39-19) 10/20/1979 Fleetwood Mac - Tusk (+25, 40-15) 10/20/1979 The Commodores - Still (+28, 38-10)11/03/1979 Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer - No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (+23, 33-10) 11/15/1980 John Lennon - (Just Like) Starting Over (+22, 32-10) 02/20/1982 Joan Jett and The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'N Roll (+21, 39-18) 03/06/1982 Olivia Newton-John - Make A Move On Me (+20, 39-19) 10/02/1982 Olivia Newton-John - Heart Attack (+26, 39-13)10/30/1982 Lionel Richie - Truly (+22, 36-14) 11/13/1982 Daryl Hall and John Oates - Maneater (+24, 36-12) 11/20/1982 Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney - The Girl Is Mine (+22, 36-14) 08/15/1987 Michael Jackson with Siedah Garrett - I Just Can't Stop Loving You (+21, 37-16) And a few notable selections from the Shadoe Stevens era (I started following AT40 in the fall of 1991)… 07/22/1989 Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting (+20, 38-18) 11/30/1991 Michael Jackson - Black Or White (+33, 35-2)12/22/1991 Prince and The New Power Generation - Diamonds And Pearls (+24, 37-13) 01/30/1993 Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman (+20, 40-20) 12/04/1993 Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting - All For Love (+20, 40-20) 04/06/1994 Madonna - I'll Remember (+23, 39-16) 05/07/1994 All-4-One - I Swear (+24, 39-15) Surprisingly, I couldn't find any 20+ movers from Casey's second AT40 era (1998-2004). In "real" AT40 history, "Scream" is the biggest mover since "Black Or White" in 1991. As previously stated, that one needs an asterisk next to it since it happened the week that AT40 changed charts (if AT40 had kept using the Hot 100, "Black Or White" would've moved 35-3, so it's not that far off). Discounting "Black Or White", you'd have to say that "Scream" is the biggest mover since "Heart Attack" in 1982. Going the by the "current" history (R&R back to it's inception, Billboard for prior to R&R), the correct answer should've been Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" (+28 in 1972). Do note, that the R&R chart years need to be taken with a grain of salt, as well. For the magazine's first year of publication, and from late 1976 to mid-1983, the pop chart was only 30 positions instead of 40, so 25+ moves would've been a bit more difficult to track.
