Now #2 on iTunes. Thank you NBC. $$$ I like the song but I was wondering why it charged up itunes. I hadn't watched the Olympics until today so I knew why before I opened this thread. I don't think this guy will have a long career so give him this hit. Good for him.

Whistle is gaining on this. Time for NBC to play it again tonight . Billboard is predicting that Home will sell 200K copies for the week.

How this cannot be at least Top 40 is simply beyond me but is a testament to the state of CHR/POP radio today.

"Home," the coronation song by 2012 American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips, is getting a second life -- thanks to the Olympics. The song, chosen for Phillips by Interscope Geffen A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine and first released in May, has been used repeatedly as a theme during NBC's broadcast of its women's gymnastics coverage. Industry sources are forecasting that the song could sell around 200,000 downloads by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Aug. 5. To put that in perspective, in the most recent week (ending July 29), only one song sold more than 200,000: Flo Rida's "Whistle," with 237,000. "Home" first started getting play on NBC last weekend, so we've already seen it post some major sales gains. In the week ending July 29, it earned a 69% increase in downloads, selling 40,000 for the week (up from 24,000 a week earlier). In turn, it reentered the Digital Songs chart at No. 47 and the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 84. Now, following the U.S. team's win during the team competition on July 31, the song is selling at an even faster pace. Projecting "Home's" sales this week is difficult, considering a lot of the song's traction depends on how much TV exposure it receives in the coming days. NBC is due to broadcast more women's gymnastics during primetime on Aug. 2 and 5. If "Home" sells around 200,000 downloads, it could move straight into the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 next week. The new Hot 100 chart's top 10 will be revealed on Aug. 8. "Home" originally debuted and peaked at No. 10 on the Hot 100 shortly after Phillips won American Idol in May. It bowed with 278,000 downloads in its debut week and has sold 617,000 to date in the U.S. Last month, Phillips received his first gold record marking the achievement and certifiying sales of over 500,000. It is worth noting, in addition to great Itunes sales due to it being featured on the Olympics, it's also #1 on amazon after being discounted. I'm thinking these next two weeks will be very, very good for Home.

From Billboard:
"Over on the Digital Songs chart, “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips zooms from No. 47 to No. 1 with “Home,” selling 228,000 (up 472%..."
#1 digital song and CHR won't give it a shot. Boo.

Supposedly Z100 is playing this. And it's #49 on the CHR chart:

This is easily going to become the most successful winner's single. Saleswise, yes, but will it get the airplay of "A Moment Like This"? I think that got to #4 on Pop.

This is easily going to become the most successful winner's single. "A Moment Like This" was a pretty big hit. It made it to #4 on pop and had pretty decent longevity on airplay as a whole. It's sales were lackluster, but single sales were null in 2002. I don't think any coronation song will ever beat it. I can see this becoming the second biggest, though. "The Time of My Life" and "I Love You This Big" made small dents in the charts, so it's not too difficult to be bigger than them. The others had good sales one week and then died.

Starts another week as #1 on iTunes. If radio doesn't play it though, it'll slowly descend now that the Olympics are over.
Good updates (especially on HAC) today so maybe radio is coming on board for this.

This sounds like it could be an airplay hit in the vein of Fun, Goyte, Adele etc. Maybe because it is different from alot of the stuff that's on the raido now and it sounds more organic. I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being an airplay hit as well as a sales hit.
