This will be the third single from "Stop All The World Now"
It sounds like a should-have-been hit, but with arrested sales development and limited play to his first two singles, this will likely not reach its full potential.
My Predictions:
Triple A: #9 Hot AC: Will Not Chart
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This song is awesome. What happened with "She Says"? I wasn't even paying attention.

So far, the highest "She Says" has gotten on AAA is 22. It was Top 20 during some week until Waitt obliterated KCTY/Omaha. >:(
"Collide" is the most accessible and one the best songs on the album. Despite "She Says" not doing well, I can see "Collide" being a major hit on AAA and doing decently on Hot AC. I don't think Epic put much of a push into "She Says" anyway, they just released it because "Perfect Time of Day" was getting old and they wanted a new single to hold people over while they get ready for "Collide." But, I don't think it'll become the mega-format smash that it could have been for the reasons you mentioned. Also, I think Epic expected "She Says" to do alright just based on hype from PTOD, but they apparently had to make one push, which showed hype wasn't what they'd expected.

"Collide" was featured on tonight's "Joan of Arcadia" episode. :)
I'd also like to change my Hot AC prediction for this song, considering a lot of tracks that sound not Hot-ACish make the chart. I still don't see this hitting big, unfortunately, on Hot AC, but he'll chart.
Corrected Prediction: #30
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I really dont know why radio is sleeping on Howie Day. He\s definitely an artist that should be capable of making a large breakthrough... I still say he will, even if its not until a future album. In the meantime, I\m hoping |Collide| will become a sleeper hit.

Did this end up doing anything at all? Or was it completely DOA?

Only two stations are spinning it so far. (KENZ/Salt Lake & KMTT/Seattle.) Hopefully Epic will give this the push it needs. Also, he & OAR are set to do a pretty big tour this summer so hopefully that'll help get it off the ground too.

Ony 2 stations is kind of a drag to hear. Seriously, this is a great song and should do much better. Hopefully you're right about the tour exposure helping it out.

It's a shame, I have a CD and I thought he would be the next John Mayer to Hot AC, or even replace him. Did this song even get released?

I like Howie Day (what I've heard of him) but after seeing his latest video my guess is that he doesn't have that "it" factor. That mysterious something that makes someone a star. You either have it or you don't. With that said, Howie has a dedicated small fanbase and will probably be able to sustain a long mid-level career. Nothing wrong with that at all.

What's the deal with this? There's not an add date listed, but All Access just added it to the new music section.

The add date was a few weeks ago.Β It's only detectable on 3 AAA stations.Β It looks like it's doing a little better on Hot AC, or at least better than "She Says" did there, getting about 100-200x.

What was Howie Day's single that was released about a year or two ago maybe? I saw the video on MTV2. I can't remember the song though.
Thanks, Ben

Still not very much AAA action, but it's the #32 debut on Hot AC this week! Epic has finally decided to push it there and/or his big summer tour w/ OAR, Guster, and Matt Nathanson is paying off. It's still gaining on most of the format leaders too.

I think Howie Day will really explode on nhis next album, he's kind of simmering under the radar like Modest Mouse had done on Alternative.

It refuses to give up. Now it has a +167 bullet on Hot AC, which is the highest I've seen for it, and it's among the Top 10 greatest gainers. There are 20 Hot AC stations giving it 20+ spins. This looks just about ready to break into the Top 20.

Yeah, it just keeps hanging around on my chart. Just can't quite let it go.

I have a feeling that Howie is one album away from exploding.

I really like this song and my station really hasn't given it much play.Β Howie and Los Lonely Boys will be at Cleveland's Jingle Bell ball next month so I've noticed they're playing Collide a bit more now.Β I just got an e-mail survey from Ratethemusic.com and it is included in the Hot AC survey.Β I gave it a good rating cuz it's a good record, IMO.Β Β

FMQB says this is planned for a first quarter 2005 pop release. Maybe I'll finally hear it then. I keep hearing about it, but I haven't heard the song yet. Is it that good to keep hanging around like this?
