"Girlfriend" peaked at #15 on (mediabase) Hot AC, not #13. Is this Billboard?
And don't you think it's a shame how low "When You're Gone" peaked?

Geeze I keep tryin to give Avril a chance with her new CD but this song is really bad IMO - why does she keep writing such stupid lines like "You're so fabulous" and "You're so good to me"? It sounds like she's makin the song up as she goes along - I can't see this gettin past #15 - sorry to be so negative...

Personally, I think that her song writing skills peaked in Under My Skin. I got tired of this album quickly, whereas I can still listen to Under My Skin. I hope she transforms again with the next album, since apparently she feels the need to do that. I think this will peak around #16-18, and will not stay around long enough to go recurrent. She really doesn't have a lot of Hot AC-friendly tracks like she did with her last album.

It sounds like she's makin the song up as she goes along Here are some quotes from her, "This record, I've never had so much fun in the studio. We would order food five times a day and totally pig out. We'd be drinking. I wrote 'Girlfriend' when I was drunk." With (the) song 'Girlfriend,' the second I was singing the melody, the lyrics were coming out: 'I don't like your girlfriend,' " " The chorus was written in two minutes. It took nothing. And what's really cool about 'I Can Do Better' is we wrote it, and then I just ran into the booth, and I sang. I laid down the verse, and ... we just used my demo [take]. It was totally different β so much fun!""Some of the songs I wrote didn't even mean that much to me," It's not like some personal thing I'm going through. They're just songs."

That explains it! ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif) I also found out she co-wrote the songs on her previous CD with 90s pop/alternative singer Chantal Kreviazuk (who didn't help write any songs on this CD)...

It says 13 on that site, which has pretty much all the peaks of Avril's (and other artist) songs on different charts. I definately wished 'WYG' would do better... :( I thought it was a sure Top 5 hit lol.

How come you keep calling her "90s pop/alternative singer"? LOL! Most people here do know OF her and most of her success came in the early 2000s. Also, she got probably her biggest radio hit in Canada late last year as well. She's not restricted to the 90s. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif)

S. was "In This Life"

Which, if I'm not mistaken, was her biggest US hit, even tho it only made it to #17 on Hot AC. And that was in 2003 as well, well outside of the 90s. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif)

S. and the pop/alternative Hot AC's back then had it in heavy rotation - problem is there's really no way to compare it to "In This Life" b/c the Hot AC chart in '96 still had tons of stations which today would be considered mainstream AC - I know there was a separate "Pop/Alternative" chart back in '97 but it might have come too late for "Surrounded"
